| Fallout 3 would probably have to be my favorite due to the experience it gives really, fallout new vegas never really felt like it was a post apocalyptic adventure, more like just a desert adventure. But the features and mods in new vegas have been more enjoyable in my eyes, but i would have to give it to fallout overall |

- @ irishmarksman - I agree with you about the iron sights, it's a big improvement over FO3. I remember getting all excited when RougeHallow released his FO3 iron sights mod way back when, but since FNV had it built in it was one less mod I had to add to my install. On a side note, I picked up the rest of the FNV DLCs and I'm using the TTW mod, so I have the best of both games...fantastic atmosphere of the DC wasteland and all the technical improvements of FNV. You should check it out, if you haven't already done so.
N~dles I have looked into getting that mod but I havent had the best of luck with it! Ill try to get it working again thanks! |

| Probably New Vegas for all the above reasons people posted for it. I know expansions are worth mentioning....Honest Hearts, Old World blues etc. really take the gold medal because of the diversity, characters and awesome locations. FO3 expansions were, little more than addons imo. So yeh, FNV gets a nice golden side dish to its name |

| Fallout 3 for the story. New Vegas for the characters. New Vegas' story was bland. |

| ^Don't know what you're getting at, because I think it is the complete opposite except that the characters in Fallout 3 rarely had anything going for them, except for maybe Dad and that was it.
Fallout 3's story was linear and free of any choice, whether you want to be an evil ass or not, it doesn't matter, you join the BoS, and you destroy the Enclave. Quite frankly the choice should've been left up to you. and things should have been grey instead of black and white. Plus I never liked the BoS not even in Fallout 3. |

| If you had asked me a year or two ago I would've said fallout 3. Now I prefer New Vegas even though I've played it to death. New Vegas just has better characters and the choices you make have a bigger effect in the game. I still think fallout 3 has a better enviroment but that can only take you so far and NV has plenty of mods to take care of its lack of exploration. |

| Since I started playing the TTW mod, I'm finding a whole lot more love for FO3. It could very easily be because I haven't played FO3 for several years, and my opinion of the game had become soured due to playing it too much way back when. I had stated previously that I prefered FNV, and I still do for the reasons I mentioned before, however FO3 feels like more of a complete world. It's really quite striking to note the differences when playing a quest in DC, then transporting over to NV for a bit. The biggest shortcoming for FNV is scale...and I mean size of the world map in a physical sense. It would have been perfect if the Strip and the outlying towns were comparable to downtown DC in FO3. The Mojave map just feels a little bit too sparse, but maybe that's the point...it's a desert.
I still think FNV is the superior RPG due to the choices that can be made, but I think FO3 has the better world to play in...even if Three Dog exists in it! Yeah, I think he's annoying as hell.

| New Vegas: -gameplay -factions -freedom of choice -it's funnier and less serious (wild wasteland etc) -better dlc's
Fallout 3: -setting |

| Fallout New Vegas because it has everything which Fallout 3 lacks and not to forget thousands of other mods on net which further enhance FNV gameplay |

| I loved Fallout 3 simply because of the exploration and random events. I still like New Vegas and find myself playing it more but I love Fallout 3 more. _________________ |

| Hands down I prefer Fallout 3 for it's awesome story but I still end up playing New Vegas more because of the better gameplay and IMO better mods. |

| I really enjoy FO3 maybe even more than FNV. ( without mods) It is starting to show its age and mods aren't as polished or flexible as in FNV. The settings layout and progression. I just feel more connected to the character I am playing. Now that there is TTW and even more so F3FNV mod ( TVP site) There is no reason to not have both if you are willing to put in a bit of work. _________________ |

| FO3 had a better story it was woven around exploration, and sent you all across the wasteland. It had the emotional tag to it. You had to find your dad, and then from there you found out where you came from. FO3 felt more human, it had bombed out and depleted buildings it felt right.
FNV you really didn't have much of a backstory. You were a courier, one of the best. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a revenge fueled story, that wasn't really that long of a quest line. After that it went from Revenge to saving the Mojave. I do however like the overhauling of the combat system, better mods, and iron sights for the weapons.
I think FO3 is where I would have to say I like the most. It brought me into the series, and hooked me. If I skipped on it I would have missed out on a super fun franchise. |

| New Vegas had more choice, better quests, and was generally a better game, although I did like the world of 3 a lot more. If only Obsidian had developed 3 as well. Not to say 3 is a bad game per se, it isn't IMO, but New Vegas just outclasses it on all fronts, especially choice, there was a lot of moral grey area, which I like, as opposed to the black and white choices of 3. |

| Ideally I would like Bethesda to realize these things and act accordingly. A game where Bethesda handled the world building and Obsidian handled the story and characters would be damn near a perfect Fallout game. |

| Fallout 3 has a great story and the capital wasteland is great, but it felt rather linear to me. There's this huge open world but still my options feel rather limited.
New Vegas improved on this but felt rather small. The gameplay was much better and felt more like a true RPG.
So it's hard to say, I like them both for different reasons. Although I've by far clocked more hours in New Vegas. But with mods like TTW and F3FNV you can bring the great story of F3 to NV with its improved gameplay. Win - Win |

| Sadly, New Vegas is actually pretty small. When you look at the map, the borders/invisible walls start a lot sooner than they look like they should. Perhaps initially the game world was supposed to be bigger.
The city of Vegas itself is also far too small and is my biggest complaint with the game. FO3 showed us how you do a massive city, while also having an expansive wasteland. You put the city in the corner of the map, with impressive an impressive backdrop in the distance, and the actual city composed of a dozen or so cells - and claim its still only a small portion of it. Even the Pitt, a DLC, did this better, having the city look absolutely massive from a distance and the actual playable area small. Hell, the Sierra Madre, a resort around a casino, feels (and may actually be?) bigger and more like a settlement.
Vegas is tiny. Eastside, Westside, Freeside in two small cells, and two cells for the Strip. Being able to circle it on foot as quickly as you can is laughable. It made worse by the fact it was supposedly spared the bombs for the most part. i can swallow that large parts of the ruins have been torn down and cleared out for farms, and that the northern fields and Fiend infested ruins are also supposed to have been part of the city, but it still feels far too small. And this from someone who has never set foot in an American city.
Vegas should be the entire north of the map, or at least seem to fade off into the far distance of the north edge of the map, with only the Strip itself all that we visit in around a dozen large cells one after the other. Perhaps with a monorail to 'choose' your cell. |

| I wonder if those areas of the map that weren't used were originally intended to host new DLCs?. If so that would make sense. If not it was just a disappointment. Really there must be at least 25% of the map that we can view that is wasted. Even Skyrim did a better job with map management. Sure the mountains surround Skyrim but isn't that what the story states anyway? There is very little open space beyond the mountains on that map. _________________ |

| They're really the same size, its only that fallout 3's interiors give the illusion that it is bigger, and New Vegas' invisible walls make it seem smaller. New Vegas also lacks a lot of interesting interiors, but mods can fix that. This was said by someone who knows a lot about modding and navmeshing in general, who works with the TTW team, not just someone who didn't know what he was talking about.
In fact if Bethesda's deadlines hadn't interfered, New Vegas would have been bigger, first because they were planning to have legion territory on the other side of dam, and second because who knows what other pieces of land were planned as well. |

| Definitely Fallout 3, better setting, better story.
Only thing New Vegas has over F3 are the additional game mechanics (iron sights, traits, etc) |
