Which is better in your opinion? I like Fallout 3 better than NV, but I haven't played NV nearly as much as 3.

I would definitely say Fallout 3 due to the story, map, and DLC if you ask me personally I would tell you that Fallout New Vegas shouldn't have existed but instead Bethesda should have made a sequel to Fallout 3 where it left off but that is just my opinion. Although, I am still having a fun time on Fallout New Vegas I just wish I could go back to The Capital Wasteland and see how much it has changed since our last visit to see if The Supermutants are still a problem, look at the remains of the Enclave, visit the Citadel, check out if they expanded Megaton or Bigtown, who is still at Little Lamplight, and check out the Vaults.

New Vegas, I'll be completely honest right here. I don't like Fallout 3 that much. The story of Fallout 3 contradicts itself as well as the Fallout universe many times. The wasteland and the atmosphere don't make that much sense, as Fallout is a Post-post apocalyptic series and in the capital wasteland it feels as if the bombs just dropped even though its been 200 years! Then there's the devs and the story. The developers in Obsidian at the time of development for Fallout: New Vegas were involved in the creations of the Fallout games. The story of New Vegas takes a lot of inspiration from the original script of the original, scrapped Fallout 3: Van Buren which sort of makes New Vegas a true sequel in a way. The mods for New Vegas are also in my opinion are much better due to the game being more modern letting more powerful mods exist. Despite all this, I've had some good memories with Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game and I only came up with these opinions after playing the older games, the atmosphere IS really awesome and the game is good on its own accord, its just that when compared to the other Fallout games it falls short. These are just my two cents (please don't vote me down lol) both games are good but in the end, it all comes down to personal preference. If fallout 3 was (Hypothetically of course) a horrible, horrible game with no redeeming factors but you guys still liked it, I would respect your opinion.

I prefer Fallout New Vegas's engine, but 90 percent of the time I'm roaming the capitol wasteland due to it's atmosphere through Tale of Two Wastelands.

A good question. I honestly like both for different reasons.

For New Vegas, I prefer the writing, the storyline, the factions, the weapons and armor, but the world design isn't as good as Fallout 3's.

Fallout 3 has terrific atmosphere, and Bethesda's trademark excellent world building. You can walk in any direction after leaving the Vault and explore at your leisure, while New Vegas doesn't really open up until you get to Vegas itself. It's why I adore Tale of Two Wastelands. Best of both worlds! By having both worlds!

Fallout New Vegas eghhh... But Fallout 3 has a awesome story line where you have to go out into the watelands and find your dad and it sooo sad at then end i always love a epic ending in fallout 3 but i usually play with broken steel so the game does not have to end soo dramatically and also fallout new vegas has a nice and cool story line too its just the atmosphere of the game i like the dark REAL looking wasteland other than that Fallout New Vegas is awesome but in my opinion Fallout 3 is a bit better than FNV

I feel like New Vegas is the better game overall but I do like the Capital Wasteland more than the Mojave. Fallout 3 also felt more open to me, New Vegas has invisible walls everywhere so I couldn't climb the sides of mountains like I do in every Bethesda game there's mods that gets rid of the walls but that doesn't excuse the many walls. In Fallout 3 there's several ways of getting to places, in New Vegas you have to go the way the developers wanted you to. So I like Fallout 3 for the setting and New Vegas for everything else pretty much the story in particular it had much more nuance you could side with different factions and the narrative branches out more, so I guess I prefer New Vegas.

That's a very good question. Both have their own advantages over the other but I overall enjoyed Fallout 3 a little more.

Fallout New Vegas had a slightly better engine, better mechanics, and iron sights. I also liked the wide variety of weapons New Vegas had, especially with all the downloadable content.

On the other hand, while Fallout 3 didn't have iron sights and lacked things like weapon modifications (without modding of course), I found the Capital Wasteland to be a considerably more interesting place to explore. The Mojave just felt barren to me. The energy weapons in Fallout 3 were also much more formidable in contrast to those in New Vegas. When I used the plasma rifle in FNV, it just felt nerfed in my opinion.

Altogether, while they're both awesome games, I preferred Fallout 3 for its superior atmosphere, and weapon statistics(energy weapon usability).

I'll also add that while the companions were more interesting in NV as character, despite being more shallow I felt more attachment to NPCs such as Sarah and Elder Lyons, James, and more than I feel would be interesting to read if i was to write them out. Actually including the originally planned romances might have helped in NV, and that might hint at the crux of the issue for me. In FO3 you feel like you form friendships. In NV the people are more realistic; everyone has their own motives, and act on them. But I feel they failed to address that real humans form bonds. I didn't feel I had formed any real bonds in New Vegas by the end.

I prefer NV mainly because it felt like an actual rpg, and not a hiking simulator. You can play all the way through and never kill a single living thing. Far more variety in every regard. I love both games, but New Vegas is just on a different level.

I prefer Fallout 3 for the atmosphere. New Vegas brought us back to more of the "lore" from the earlier games, but since I never actually played them, it doesn't matter to me. *shrugs*

FNV because there is more interaction and because i like the mods better in NV

I like the story to Fallout 3 better. For me, getting out of the Vault to find your dad is better than finding the guy who shot you and took the platinum chip. The war between the Legion and the NCR in New Vegas wasn't interesting.

Fallout 3 had a better story but Fallout New Vegas had better gameplay (iron sights for guns, weapon mods, more weapons in general.)

Hmmm I love both games. Fallout 3 will always be close to my heart because of the story, the urban exploration, the atmosphere as everyone keeps saying is what made it catchy in the first place, and it was the first Fallout game I ever played.

New Vegas feels more interactive as you have different groups of "tribes" all vialing for the strip and control of the region. You have different groups to chose as a preference though I think they should have at least emphasized the lower groups such as Powder Gangers, Great Khans, Brotherhood of Steel, and etc to be a wild card that comes out of nowhere to make trouble for the NCR and the Legion. Of course the better mechanics and more options as far as gameplay with weapon mods etc have made it a stand out. Plus it links back to the pervious entries of the series.

If I have to chose I'd say New Vegas. Though I'm planning on replaying Fallout 3 (modded of course).

New Vegas is amazing for questing but is lacking in a strong story. However New Vegas is much less linear and has a lot more options. Like it wasn't really possible to have playthrough in F3 if you wanted to kill everyone by the time you finished the game. In NV though, you are free to kill as you please as quest objectives such as the holotape Manny Vargas is carrying is the objective, leaving you free to kill him instead of completing the quest instead. Not to mention New Vegas is more powerful and or better when it comes to modding because it can take heavier loads and such. New Vegas sacrificed a lot but rewarded itself in other aspects to make up for what it lost from Fallout 3's awesome aspects

I prefer the feel/aesthetic of Fallout 3, and the mechanics/story of New Vegas. This is why TTW is pretty awesome.

I honestly love both. I always thought the story in 3 was better, and it was a much more technically stable game.
FNV's atmosphere is closer to that of the original Black Isle games (after all, some of the original devs were on the team), and the gameplay, in my opinion, is better. However, it's a buggy mess, and the story just isn't as engrossing.
Both games have their merits.
