Well..they did it. They are banning everyone using mods in GTA V.

I'd understand if they banned people ruining other people's experience in online by using harmful mods, but banning people for using a FOV MOD in singleplayer? A FOV MOD. A fucking FOV mod that fixes the absolutely horrendus FOV in GTA V, or a lighting mod. Like..are you shitting me, Rockstar? What is your problem.

I was going to say that of course they are banning for online mods but singleplayer? That is just... I just don't even...

Links to a article about this would be handy, just sayin' but back on topic if this is true then holy mother of Azathoth are they being babies about it. Like Rockstar was notoriously anal about having people record their games and posting them online and would always send out Cease and Desists. But that was at least understandable from a company standpoint but this...this is a BAD message to send to the fans of their games. Like did they not see how fucking big the GTA4 modding community was? It couldn't be stopped.

There you go bud. Can't believe they're doing this. Only reason I bought GTA was to mod it.... Apparently it's because it is difficult for them to tell the difference between a harmless singleplayer mod and a online cheat.

Nope, most people are being banned for a mod that fixes the horrendus default FOV or lighting mods like sweetfx (even if you never go online), and even if you were to use these mods online, these are mods that do not change online in a harmful way whatsoever so I still don't get the point.
And they also recently changed the EULA to state : "You agree not to: reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, display, perform, prepare derivative works based on, or otherwise modify the Software, in whole or in part"
It's fucking ridiculous and I don't even know if it's legal to change the contract after one has agreed to it in the past when it didn't include this shit.

It is actually but you would need to agree to it again tho I highly doubt R* just added that in as its basic in any software TOS.

Anywho based on thi Kotaku article it seems the bans are do to how the mods actually work.

Also based on the comments it seems it also has to do with the somewhat linked SP and MP(no idea as I havn't played the game).

That sucks. The violation of privacy as far as single player modes being preyed on for simply enhancing your game is terrible. It is their choice, and it could cost them an immense amount in their PC copy sales, which would be funny because it would be THEIR fault. I just hope if that's the case they don't stop releasing R* PC games in the future, that could be a real downside to what could have been a great game when modded.

That's awful to be honest, one of the main selling points of the previous grand theft auto was the modifiability of the PC version of the game.

Not to mention that mods create more attention for the game via the usage of YouTube and mod reviews on social media. Quite silly to think that they'd try and get rid of that, to be honest.

They won't keep this up for long unless they want to be mobbed by the modding community.

Normally I'd be worried but I doubt this is going to last long. Modding is a giant part of why people are getting GTA V; if they keep this up, the PC Gamers will find a way to get back at them.

It's a shame because when they ban the people using mods, they ban the best players of GTA, all the creative people, the movie makers, the fun people, it's these types of people who made and use mods and do all the 'crazy shit' that inspires everyone ELSE to play.

I sincerely hope that they reverse the changes to the terms and conditions that prohibits modding.

They honestly make so much off of consoles, that they are temporarily blinded to the idea that allowing modding will make them more money in the long run and increase the longevity of the franchise. Especially when the games take long enough between to release...But maybe they really don't care anymore if we as PC gamers enjoy the game the same way.

Comments like that are why a lot people hate the PC community. You'll rarely meet a console player that feels the need to say junk like that. There's nothing wrong with choosing to play on console or PC, but for some reason PC players feel the need to insult console players. Why?

They ban offline modding because you can transition from offline to online. It wouldn't be difficult to create a mod and make it work for only you on the online game which would be a serious advantage that would allow you to bypass basically anything you didn't want to deal with. It's due to mainly laziness. It's a lot easier to ban people than to create an integrity-checking system that would deny access to online for having additional, unofficial, files in the folders.
