I don't know much about engines and what they can handle etc. but i'm under the impression no matter how good of a Rig you have, if the engine of a game isn't that good, then your limited to what you can do mod-wise.

e.g. too many high performance mods for new Vegas (let's say a f*ck tonne of High Res Texture Packs) can cause it to crash regardless of your rig, am I right in saying that?

So I was curious if you guys know the potential of the Fallout 4 engine,

Is it any good and when the Tools come out for it, will Fallout 4's engine be capable of withstanding much modding?

It's a spruced up version of Skyrim's engine. Which is a spruced up version of Oblivion/FO3/FNV's engine, which is a spruced up version of Morrowind's engine.

So not very good. It'll withstand as much modding as their previous games, most likely. I won't be surprised if there's 255 plugin limit again.

@Lucianhector: Well, it can certainly use more RAM than the hard 4GB limit previous games had, so that's a plus. Previous games had that limit because it was a 32-bit application: this is 64-bit.

F4 uses a modified version of the Creation Engine, originally designed for Skyrim. CE is in turn developed from some of the Gamebryo engine originally implemented for Morrowind in '03 and progressively upgraded until FNV in '10. The most important change is that CE is a 64 bit Engine, meaning it can take advantage of all available system resources. Unfortunately, Bethesda doesn't seem to be in the habit of proofreading their scripting or making sure that it all makes sense because their games seem to crash when scripts get jumbled. If F4's CE and Skryim's aren't terribly dissimilar, then it's likely it will support the same amount of mods.
