I would expect something along the lines of this happening.

But on a much greater scale. If it was a actually wartime thing, I would I expect it to filled with more trial and error than anything, and beyond crazy robotics innovation.

Well, as far as I know China wasn't as far with their technology as America was, as evidenced by America having an almost-done Liberty Prime + Power Armor (As far as I know, the best thing they had at the time was semi-invisible stealth armor). I don't remember hearing anything about Japan in the Fallout Universe though. But, I gotta admit, seeing Liberty Prime battle a giant anime-like mecha would be pretty awesome.

I love how Liberty Prime is don't get me wrong but it kinda looks like an overgrown toy.
You'd think atleast Japan to make something great than that, albeit not really anime-ish.

@William Lionheart
Can't speak about Japan, but I think China had a totally different viewpoint during the War. America was focused on big bad machinery (Power Armour, Liberty Prime, etc.) China put a lot huge investment into infiltration (Stealth Suits). If you look at all the encounters with China in Fallout 3 it has a lot to do with spies (Mama Dolce, Chinese Intel Bunker, hidden Submarines). If anything I feel China's super weapon would've been mechanical assassins, not like synths at all, but mainly made from titanium, faster than a person, stronger than one too and extremely effective in close quarter combat. Why mechanically assassins over their real ones? Simple, Power armour. The issue with Real assassins is that they just aren't that effective against it, mechanical ones are far more durable than a person and would be able to deliver crushing blows to soldiers in combat armour and ideally large enough blows to power armoured units that they could devastate them if they didn't see them coming.
How would they fair against Liberty Prime? Probably not well if there was only a pack of them, but ideally they'd be spread out and charging at him from all angles just looking to climb up all his limbs and self destruct one by one to take him down especially since he really isn't all that mobile in comparison.

Japan would go full Evangelion and make some EVA's, RIP America and China.

Kinda is surprising how we know little about the other "major" countries like Germany and Russia.
So instead of focusing on one "giant" attack force, China went with the "swarm" tactic I suppose?
Instead of relying on one attack force like america with Liberty Prime, they opted to overwhelm the opponent with numbers?
So if Japan was given the opportunity, we'd be speaking about something like a Mech or Gundam?
(Not really trying to get anime into this, but kinda hard to not use it as an example)

Well yeah China does have a much larger population anyway so it would make sense.
I think the Fallout explanation for European countries was that they formed a European Commonwealth and were a single entity also they were more focussed on their own personal conflict with the Middle East as they were heavily oil dependent and the Middle East had the greatest share of Oil reserves.

Everyone here has seen Pacific Rim? I wanna say China's mech, Crimson Typhoon was one the best, if not the best mechs. It had 3 pilots. But look what happen.
Only watch the clip if you have seen Pacific Rim and/ or dont care for spoilers.

@Kaltix Kinda seems odd that would be an issue seeing there's nuclear powered vehicles in the FO universe.
@Ryumera seen Pacific Rim and loved it: is also a reason why I believe they could've outdone Liberty Prime.
Though the whole Chinese Stealth tactic made me think of Stealth Assassin Droids.
Hell they could've resorted to turning them into cyborgs....
So basically:
America: huge and bulky
China: Stealth based and overwhelming
Japan: Quick and Agile?
Sorry if it's starting to become or is a stupid discussion people, just curious to see other people's thoughts and get more knowledge at some point.

Sorry I should have clarified, the European Commonwealth formed about 20 years before the great war and that was the resource war with the Middle East, by the time of the great war most of the European Union was absolved leaving some groups fending for themselves, I feel like the Germans and Russians would've been muddled by the lose of their union leaving them slightly direction less in the years prior to the great war and all their greatest minds may have come together, something like the Institute, and remained out of sight and out of mind for the years to come

I wonder if the European Countries and Japan would have maintained their special forces after the war. They might have joined together to form a GSG 9, SAS, Spetnaz, GIGN and JSDF coalition but this is just wild fantasizing from me.

@Kakashi Hatake It would seem plausible really, especially for Germany and Russia to team up then.
Ignoring current politics, they are the two greatest power mongers in Europe so it would make sense.
Though I "think" Germany would've suffered a lot by the war, indirectly because of it's neighbouring countries getting reduced to ash.
So Germany's answer would be along the lines of:
Would be interesting to see if there's any DLC coming featuring or mentioning Europe after the Great War.

After the war? I mean it was a nuclear war so I doubt it, you have to remember the only reason why America still has so many people is due to Vault Tech's experiments, had no vaults existed there wouldn't have been such a large population increase overtime. There are probably still small civilizations out in Germany and Russia, but no where near as developed as those in the American Wasteland. At least that is my opinion.

Well Allistair Tenpenny came from the UK to The Capital Wasteland, so wouldn't that mean either A) Vault Tech had branches in other countries or B) The found another way to surive?

Well, I'd like to think that China would build a Gundam made from junk (like they did a few years back), while Japan would build the real thing (like how they built a full head a few years ago). Japan would enlist all the top mech designers from anime's past and present and they'd make one of the greatest machines ever to battle anything the US could ever think of.
Or maybe Ultraman will just come to beat everyone...? =P
