Hi. I like Bethesda games, I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to modding (all I really know how to do is make minor changes to the game and make very basic NPCs in the Bethesda game official modding tools, but I'd like to be able to learn more.), and at the moment, I have a extremely crap PC, but I'm getting parts for a much, much better one. I'm also very bad at making introduction threads, in my opinion. I hope I fit in here. I doubt anybody does, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Also, does anybody know if there are any Mass Effect mods for Fallout 3?

Hey Julum, welcome to VGU Network.
Remember, we were all newbs in modding, but here, we learned a lot from each other!
Well, there are Mass Effect mods for FNV but if you have TTW than you can use any FNV armor mods with FO3... assuming that you own FO3 and FNV.
I do have a question in mind. How did you manage to find VGU?

I actually found this because I saw a video for a Mass Effect mod for FO3, and someone mentioned this site in comments, so I got very interested. But sadly, I don't own FNV for PC yet. Can you port FNV mods to FO3? I also looked for this site because I heard they don't ban people for releasing mods that have content ported from other games, unlike the Nexus. Because if I do learn to make mods, I want to be able to use content from other games and be able to share it with other people without getting banned.

Welcome to VGU Julum!
Porting simple mods to F3 isn't excessively difficult. All you really need is F3Edit and FNVEdit. The instruction manual for those programs covers porting mods between the games in better detail than I can explain (There are even pictures).
It's nice to meet you and I hope you enjoy your stay here.
If you have any questions then feel free to ask.

I have a game related question. In Fallout 3 and TES Oblivion, you could use a console command "tlb" to greatly increase performance but lower the graphics quality, is there a mod or something I can do with Skyrim to induce the same effect? Because the tlb command does not work in Skyrim, and I've been searching for ways I can make Skyrim run better on my crappy PC until I can buy all the parts to build a new PC.

Hello and welcome, it's nice to meet you, Julum!
I have an awful computer as well so I usually have to optimize and re-size all my textures, as well as editing my .ini files to increase performance. Have you tried doing any of that instead of using the tlb console command?

Yep. I even got that HiAlgo Boost thing, which didn't help that much.

Welcome to VGU! It's actually quite funny that we found VGU in almost the same way. Hope that your experience here will be as grand as mine has been.

According to some person on the promotion thread, my posts aren't "well thought" enough to be promoted to Colonial. What should I do? Oops, I made a new post instead of editing!

Just to clear up some things for you, if you want to be promoted, Here's what you need to do.
GET PEOPLE TO LIKE YOU.
I'm not saying this to in any way offend you or anyone else that is new to VGU, as I was in the exact same spot as all of the newbies that enter this sight for the first time. In order to get promoted to a position where you can have access to all of the mods here, you need to focus less on posting stuff to get to the Colonials, and focus more on creating connections with other people here, finding out if you have similar interests, and generally not being a total dick.
DVAted posted exactly what you need to be promoted in the FAQ section, but in case you missed it, here it is:
DVAted wrote:
Your best and safest bet is to go for Colonials To become a Colonial, you'll have to meet the following criteria: 1. 15 posts non-spam: - a consistent introduction could make up for 5 posts (allowing people to get to know and understand you) - posting 5 screenshots of your own of various settings (not 5 screens of the same thing from different angles) in one post may count for another 5 posts 2. Being a decent human being, without a history of leaking other ppl's mods without permission, without acting like a prick 3. Receiving the formal okay from 3 Paladin or Overseer members.
So, after reading this, if you are still confused, here's a quick recap:
Do your best not to piss anyone off
Try to make your posts constructive and relevant (Don't just post lol, nice pick, etc.)
And, above all: Stop focusing on the mods. Focus on the community.
