I'm curious as to what the community thinks as far as the new combat system in Fallout 4. Personally I think they should move away from the very arcade like stand up and shoot-em 100 times until theyre dead. I think they should move into something similar to the mechanics of Far Cry but somehow still using all the stat variations based on your SPECIAL. I know many people however would find such a thing blasphemy, and feel the current mechanics need little to no work.
What do you guys think?

I think it will be the same mess as FO3 and FNV, if we compare Oblivion combat system to Skyrim's, not much has changed, even considering that since Oblivion there has been alot of games that have set bar for standard when it comes to combat (example: Dark Souls).
Whatever system developers make, I'm sure moding community will make better one or even different one.

Things I would like to see... 1) Bullet Time 2) Either stronger weapons or less health 3) The ability to melee while holding a gun (Bayonet on a hunting rifle anyone?) 4) Sprinting 5) Stealth melee executions 6) Better implemented throwing weapons 7) Better weapon recoil Weapon jamming on firing when condition is low 9) Chem animations (Inject Med-X, Stimpak, etc.)

I thank xThat1WhiteKidx pretty much covered all the "Features" I'd like an adaptive difficult setting though, like realism based damage, fantasy, easy, medium, hard, expert.
I'd like cover use to be implimented but not to the extremes of say gears of war. Â As for it being on the same engine as skyrim i'm ok with that yes skyrim has flaws but its good enough for starters.

I'd like it to be the same as it is currently, just more fleshed out. Like cover systems, dual wielding, etc. for real time combat and overall improvements for V.A.T.S. As far as V.A.T.S. goes, I want it to be so much better that it would be viable to use for all combat in all situations.
Maybe include a grenade hotkey instead of requiring me downloading a mod to have one. I really like VATS, but I feel like that'll stay since it's a way to keep the game tied to its roots, but fix it. So many times have I had to exit and relaunch VATS to hit the second enemy in a pack because it just wouldn't register that I clicked on them.
They've confirmed something about their next game?

1. Won't be considered with V.A.T.S available 2. Neither will be considered. It's an RPG, so weapon damage and character health will be linked to skills/stats 3. Would eliminate the need for melee weapons, meaning they'd be used less or not at all. But, you could also make them weaker than melee-only weapons. That'd be balancing. 4. The player runs fast enough, though. I guess they could make the jog speed slower, then 5. Would maybe be considered. The ability would likely be linked to a perk 6.The grenade physics were fine, but it was Obsidian who thought of other thrown weapon types 7. Hopefully COD or BF quality ! Hopefully with a better developed ADS feature 8. I'm hoping we'd get something similar to what we've seen in Metro or Far Cry 3 or this F2P game called No More Room In Hell
I have to disagree with some suggestions. The game, itself, would just feel too casual with them. You can already jog for forever. And if your weapons seem weak, just use an XP mod and bump up your weapon damage stats.
EDIT:
Tesvixen, did you know there actually IS a mod for Skyrim that adds guns ?
*Like, OMFG, guns in Skyrim !?*
My reaction when I came across it. Though, I've never used it.

I agree with the sprinting, the player is not fast enough when running IMO. As an option, a sprint button like the 'sprint mod'. It could carry health and rehydration punishment though.
Using a gun as a melee makes plenty of sense, and has been started to be worked on already. Melee weapons would still be important, this would just be an added feature with a modkit per say.
I used the guns in Skyrim back in the day, but the aiming mechanics were way off back then...

Skyrim with a cover system would be fine by me.

Overall, the game's combat system is fine to me, but I wouldn't mind sprinting and a cover system to be added to the game. The sprinting in the Project Nevada mod really helps...for when you need to run away faster from a Deathclaw...>.>

Yes. Something like that; though, the one in your video looks a lot better.

@maybenexttime That's pretty cool, I don't think I've seen that before. I was just talking about this one , because it's the only one I've ever seen / used (I think it's the same as the animation in Project Nevada?).
Is the one you posted a video of sprinting from the mechanics of The Frontier? It looks really new to me.
EDIT: That second video is pure awesome. I need to step my running game up to your level.

I want to see people take cover when there is shooting going on and when they are being shot at. I'd also love to see the ability to press yourself up against the wall, and shoot from outside of cover, as well as blind firing, and the enemy needs to be able to do this as well. It will at least add some proper tactics to the game. And you could even maybe ambush people in that way. I think we also need more veraity in weapons, rather than sticks/hammers we get and something more than just guns. A crossbow, and bow and arrow? Now those would be awesome. I also would love to be able to go prone for that sniper shot on that deathclaw/raider. Wouldn't mind seeing an implemented squad command, like JIP companions command. My followers will also need a very important skill. STEALTH! I am crouching and am being sneaky, don't run off and shoot the damn Deathclaw! lol

It would be nice if Bethesda just looked at Project Nevada added in everything that is in there. I would also like to see some cover mechanics and dual-wielding for pistols and SMGs A vertibird with similar controls and mechanics as XRE with a couple quests devoted to it would be lovely Finally, fully ingrained followers akin to the Super Followers in Interesting NPCs (from Skyrim) I'm not asking for Bioware level followers, but something more than the quest givers who follow you around for a few minutes in New Vegas

I would hope it's like skyrims but better but the game should have a cover feature cause I'm annoyed with everyone jumping to the open without taking cover but if they did add one it should like bf4 cover. And also have kill execution in vats mode

The kill moves in skyrim were awesome, even more so with the mods that added to them. it would indeed rock if Fallout 4 had all of that kill move as well, I do very much agree.
