| Hey there! I don't normally make all that many threads but I'm a little desperate, I've been grappling with this problem of mine for a couple of weeks now and it's got me worried that I won't get it sorted before the Frontier's release. >_<
I'll jump straight into the problem and what I've tried doing in the hopes of fixing it. Right, my problem is with the initial startup of Fallout New Vegas (Ultimate Edition), during the introductory splash screens I'll get as far as the Obsidian Entertainment logo... (Sometimes I might reach the Bethesda one if I've restarted the computer and it's my first try at running it.) and then I crash back to my desktop with that familiar 'Fallout: New Vegas has stopped working...' message.
- I've tried the .ini 'fix' that requires adding ThreadedAI and iNumHWThreads to both FALLOUT.ini and Fallout_default.ini. (Didn't expect this to do much.) - I've tried running the game completely vanilla. (With and without DLCs.) - Disabling my Sound Card. - Running in Compatibility mode. - Running as an Administrator. - Running in Windowed Mode. - Running with and without Vsync. - Sooooo many settings tweaks, far too many to list. =p - Reinstalling the game through steam. (Three times and counting now.) - Verifying my game cache. (1 file always remains outstanding, but I've heard that's normal.) - I've tried running the game through NVSE as well as the FNV4GB Launcher. - Disabling the Steam Overlay as well as Raptr. (Don't have Overwolf.) - Probably something else I'm forgetting...
And yep, that's the list as far as I can remember it for now. But here's the kicker... And it's got me downright confused... I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas for quite a while now on the very same machine, without fault. And then suddenly it's started going on with this issue. o_o
I'm hoping someone here in the community has dealt with this bugger of a bug before and can lend me hand, or some 'Ouch that sucks' sympathy at the very least. <=D
EDIT: Nearly forgot my specs!
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor (3.10 GHz ) 12.0 GB of Corsair gaming RAM. AMD Radeon R9280X Graphics Card. - Probably forgetting something here too... >_> - _________________ And I find, on my way to death and happiness, that my heroes, my heroes dress in black.

Download FNVEdit if you do not already have it, launch it, don't tick/untick anything, all the mods you are using should be ticked, click ok, wait until it show you an error/message, it should say which file is missing, or what file should come before what other file(s). That would be the first thing that would come in mind but you say that you tried it without any mods installed. You should try it with your mods installed and launch fnvedit to see if there is any error. If it doesn't show any error and the game still does not work. Well, I would say, try this: backup your FalloutNV folder (documents/my games/FalloutNV), move the backup somewhere else and delete the one located in the folder "my games", see if it works, if the game finally works, well, it is probably because of your ini, it could be because of the savegames themselves but that is pretty rare and i have rarely heard of that but the config files is a common case, it happened to me a few times already. Try all of that, and let me know if it works, hopefully so, if it does not work, let me know, i will try to think of something. _________________ "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"- Gandalf the Bla- I mean the white. |

| I was having a similar problem where my game would freeze at the splash screen. That was in my case related to a badly installed UI mod. Mike's advice is good, but you should also try loot. Maintaining a well organised load order is essential to preventing little issues like this, and LOOT and FNVEdit together will help you keep your load order clean. There are a lot of good tutorials out there on how to do this, they helped me a lot. _________________ Muwahahahahahahaha!!!What do you mean evil laugh!? This is how I always laugh! - Bow Down:

| @IIHawkerIII remember having the same problem as you when the Windows 10 Anniversary update came around. I tried almost everything you did but nothing worked until I found out that by rolling back my graphics card (which was a GTX960 at the time) to a previous update, My FNV game worked perfectly fine. _________________ "A drop in the Basket, Is Worth a Shepherd's Shilling" ~ Danka Chevchnov

I had that problem as well back when the update originally came out and I did the same as you. Thing is, it appears the issue causing the NV crash has been fixed, because I installed the driver again recently and it's working perfectly. _________________ Muwahahahahahahaha!!!What do you mean evil laugh!?
