| Here's the article:
https://bethesda.net/en/article/52I2HyPCAowWG2ye8MKGU2/fallout-4-free-updates-high-resolution-texture-pack-and-ps4-pro-support
Here's the part that makes me sweat:
Recommended PC Specs Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required) Intel Core i7-5820K or better GTX 1080 8GB/AMD Radeon RX 490 8GB 8GB+ Ram
Whew, when the recommended spec is for one of the most powerful GPU's Nvidia has produced you know it's heavy. My guess is that it will be incredibly unwieldy for memory usage, as in they gathered up all of their assets prior to compressing them down for consoles and then packaged them up in an archive.
I'm still happy to have this and I think modders will probably create a slightly more optimized version that will help even out performance. In the end, I'm just happy to have higher res textures in an archive as opposed to just having a lot of loose files sitting around on my SSD. I always notice a huge difference in load time and texture streaming. _________________

| This despairs me, recommended for normal FO4 a GTX 780, and for FO4 Textures in HD a 1080? No thanks, I hope modders will do a better job (especially in optimization) bethesda: _________________

| Lol this reminds of the image I saw last week on instagram with some kid who wanted to play minecraft having a 1080 gtx for that , like we don't all have god graphics cards developers lol. Do they ship like 8k textures lol and expect 120 fps for best 'experience' |

| @"LukaTheJawa" I'm sure they understand that most people won't be able to run it well. It costs little to repackage the original assets and there has been a cry from people who have performance to burn about having textures that have been so aggressively compressed like in the vanilla game.
People don't need to look at this as something that was created to replace texture mods. It's basically just, "Hey, this is our work before we compressed it down. Knock yourselves out." Many texture mods on the Nexus are more efficient memory-wise and probably still look better than what the High Res pack will be. But some people really like the vanilla style for its consistency and simply want something that will uniformly improve the look of the entire game, as opposed to have a jarring amount of high res textures mods stand out against blurrier vanilla textures. _________________ |

| I plan to buy a 1080 ti as soon as it's available, we'll see then... _________________ Splatter, splatter, splatter, gnnnniihhh and....SPLATTER! |

| @BethesdaSoftworks
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh wait you're serious.
Let me laugh even harder.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Edit: On a more serious note. It is disgusting how the community texture packs will probably look better anyway. Good news though. I am sure modders will optimize bethesda's garbage anyway. _________________ "You're never too young to have a Vietnam flashback" -Julius Caesar - Q: Can you teach me how to rig? - A: Perhaps this will help:

| Yup this is bullshit I already got a 980TI I ain't upgrading it so soon. People still are disappointed with fallout 4 in general so this wasn't really a smart move. 58 GB for a texture pack lol. |

| It's not really a problem for me since my rig is beyond those requirements. Well except the GTX 1080, uh well I'm buying another card in the spring anyway. I understand why people are upset though. That's some terrible compression and optimization on Bethesda's part. There are many games that are even more graphically intensive than Fallout 4 that don't even come close to those recommended specs. Not to mention the size of the file...58GB! You have to be yanking my chain Bethesda. 58GB is absolutely ridiculous. _________________ "I am not existing, nor am I lifeless." |

| Hye you... 58gb of textures? Really? Beth? Are you okay? Hahaha Why i can't expectate something good? But i'll surely take a look at it, because i really want them to make a better LOD anyway.
I have a Fury X, i think it can handle if i optimize them. And this only makes me hurry to upgrade my cpu and mobo :s
But a nice play from them after all. They release everything, and the texture pack to make the game better at vanilla state. NOW THE FUN REALLY BEGINS _________________ |

| So let me get this straight. I bought a 980 ti, which at the time was basically equivalent to the currently released Titan, and that's not within the recommended specs. What the heck Bethesda?
Plus another 58gb of hard drive space? Yikes.

| @"beardofsocrates" I reckon they're playing the long game here. They have a few options, right?
A) Give a compressed texture pack that more PC users will be able to play out of the box, but could ultimately limit how long people want to continue playing the game based on texture alone.
B) Give a completely uncompressed and unoptimized texture pack that fewer people will be able to use out of the box, but we know modders are going to tweak it no matter what so let's just give them the original assets and many people will still be able to use it and we can still future-proof the game for longer.
And to counter the point that people often make about user mods being preferable to vanilla textures, I don't think that user mods are the end-all for making a game look better. Unless some mod author went crazy, you're going to have to combine many different types of textures mods to achieve the same effect as their high res pack, but you would do so at the cost of artistic consistency (which may or may not bug people) as well as a higher performance cost. "But some mods make the game look better and are better optimized than vanilla textures!" some people will say, which is only halfway true. Yes, many mods are more optimal for memory usage than vanilla textures at the same resolution. However, it all eventually bottlenecks because having a ton of loose files still has adverse affects on texture streaming and loading times - archived files are much faster to load into memory than several GB's worth of loose files.
So, I'm still happy with this even though I will probably have to wait for modders to better optimize it because it's much better to optimize than to upscale. Commercial hardware will improve and eventually more people can still play FO4 without the need to dramatically optimize the high res pack. _________________ |

| I must say, I'm intrigued. At 58GB, though, I reckon I'll wait until they've been optimized by some modder. Wondering if my 980Ti could handle it now. Maybe I need to upgrade to 1080Ti when that comes out, haha! _________________ - MY MODS & MODS I'VE CONTRIBUTED TO:

| @momuse88 True, though I would've hoped for them to at least hint at performance friendly upgrades. Not to rant, but they're are far more beautiful games out there that perform incredibly well with just their vanilla assets. _________________ “We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty there that needs to be done.” - Alan Turning

| lel knowing Bethesda they'll look the same as the normal textures with a little bit of shine added like in Skyrim.
GTX 1080 lel. i bet thats a wide exaggeration of the real specs needed. |

| Gosh 58 gb, the only drive my PC has is a 240 gb drive, and usually only have about 120gb of that for games... oh well. My GPU can't handle FO4 on high anyways so it doesn't really matter |
