Subject: Fallout 4 PS4 Mods - Bad news Fri Jun 17, 2016 11:02 pm
So i have to be the one to bring the bad news here. To anyone who is excited for the mods for Fallout 4 to finally come out for PS4, well, prepare to be pissed off. Here are the issues as it said on Bethesda.net
PC textures are used. Memory and performance issues may occur. We are working with Sony on optimal texture exporting support in a future update.
Sound files are currently not supported. PS4 sound format is a proprietary format. We are working with Sony on sound file processing support in a future update.
PS4 Mod Storage limit is approximately 900 MB at present. Please do not upload mods larger than 900 MB. We are working with Sony to increase this limit.
Here one of my favourite Fallout 4 YouTubers TwoDynamic talks about more in detail, check it out.
Im sorry to be the bringer of the bad news but i thought that you should know.

That's really unfortunate for PS4 players, though I'd be lying if I said I was surprised. I expected the Xbox one to be technically smooth, and it was, but sony has a history of having difficult software to work with. I hope they get that fixed, but truly if they all really really want mods, they should invest in a PC.

Yeah, really sucks for them, but sony hasn't always worked well with Bethesda games, and their software is definitely more complicated. They really should've seen that coming

Makes me all the more grateful that I play on PC and not have to put up with these kinds of issues... I used to be a console gamer, hell I still use my PS4 quite a bit, but nowadays I'm primarily a PC gamer.
Well, best wishes to Sony and Bethesda I suppose, I hope that some gamers are able to invest in a PC if they really want mods.

Really happy I switched over to the PC version before buying the DLC. At least this will still allow PS4 users to utilize some mods, and hopefully the issues can be resolved.

Well that's a damn shame for PS4 users. It isn't surprising but is a setback nonetheless. The file size restrictions are rather irritating too especially since the 2GB X-Box limit is considerably low. Hopefully these bumps in the road can be filled soon. The lack of proprietary restrictions is one of the reasons I'm glad I have transitioned to gaming on PC.

There is going to be growing pains with this process as it never has been done before. There might never be the same level of use or mod content that can be used on a PC due to restrictions. However... there is the possibility for some mods and minor fixes and such to be given. To me if I was PS4 users at least I can have comfort that there is a possibility that I could get bug fixes for the game long after Besthesda has stopped supporting the game.

I don't know if this is the deal for the PS4, but for the Xbox One the biggest problem is that it isn't compatible with compressed mods. I think it's because it can't read .bsa files while the game is running like PC can.

Well I did forget to mention that they apparently have been rumours that the mod limit on the Xbox will be raised up to 10GB. So that might be better.

@matt8094: Update for CK fixed that for XB1. However, that problem exists on the PS4. Worse, sound files aren't supported. Great.

That's good for the XB1 users. I feel like Bethesda had a "Release Now, Fix Later" mentality when they came out with this. Either that or they genuinely weren't aware of these problems, which I highly doubt.

Not to sound like a PC elitist dickhead but in my opinion console mods where always a horrible idea mostly because of the fact they aren't able to install F4SE.

Sony consoles always seem to have some issues in regards to Bethesda games, whether it be Fallout or the Elder Scrolls. Shame really, although I suppose it's to be expected to some degree. This whole console mod system certainly needs further tweaking.

I keep hearing people use that as an excuse but i think it's bulls**t, as none of the mods i use need it and i have 100+ mods going. I'm not missing anything i need or really want ether so the whole argument about skse being that critical is subjective as to make a well modded game it not. I honestly can't think of a mod that uses it off the top of my head now that i think about it,i mean i know they are out there just never really looked i guess.

Honestly, that really doesn't make sense, i have 60+ mods on the Xbox One and none of them need the F4SE, they are all mods that make my game fun, the way it was mean't to be. F4SE right now is useless, because pretty much almost every single mod on Nexus doesn't need it right now. Or there are almost no mods that need the F4SE.

For f4 I agree that the program is not far enough to be a requirement for a good load order , but for skyrim on the other hand it's required by so many mods ( mod menu being the most important one)

Another big problem is mod dependency. What if a mod author wants to port his mod to the console, but the author of the mod that his is dependent on doesn't?

Well that's a story for another day. When the remastered Skyrim comes out there will most likely be issues with the mods.

glad i switched to a new pc before i bought fallout 4 for ps4. i really thought about getting fallout for ps4 after they announced mods for consoles. lucky me:) but it makes me wonder why they announced it if they didnt test itproperly. "mods for evefyone!" a year later:" sorry it wont work very well" sounds like they used mods to sell more copies of fallout for ps4..
