Wouldn't recommend using mod organizer since it's way more work than it pays off, nexus is all you need.

NMM and FOMM

Some mods won't install correctly with NMM so FOMM is a good second choice

Mod Organizer for Skyrim, FOMM for Fallout.

NMM for nothing because it's garbage, I wouldn't recommend NMM to someone looking to feed their dog.

NMM v0.56.1, current version 0.60.16 has changed the way of handling mod files, it uses profiling and virtual installation of files.

I didn't go in depth to that and I never will until Fallout 4, which recommends the use of NMM 0.60.x but for my Skyrim I will use NMM 0.56.1.

I've installed ~400+ Mods for Skyrim, the games runs fine but only because I don't let a Mod Manager handle my files alone. The documentation of my mod-mix has grown from simple text files to a complex website with installation information, tips & tricks, troubleshooting, links etc etc. That's the result of nearly 4 years continuous Skyrim modding and maintenance.

So if you only want to install some mods I think it doesn't make the big difference which manager you're using but if you won't run into big trouble avoid MO and NMM 0.60.x for now. Make your own experience, get into the materia, watch videos, read forums and tutorials and IMPORTANT don't take someone's words like" this is garbage" as the law.

And a golden rule: Never let only any mod manager keep track of your files/ installation. The more mods you install the more conflicts you'll get and the more trouble may occur and then there come other tools in place but taht's not the question here.

I never have used mod organizer but heard its probably the best, I stopped playing and modding skyrim a while ago but i would always keep it simple with NMM, and for fallout i will continue using FOMM as its the best for my taste.

Mod Organizer for sure. To be honest, I actually learned everything I need from a brilliant modder known as Gopher. I'm sure plenty will know who I'm referring to; he even has an entire video series dedicated to setting up Mod Organizer, and even has a series on making it work for New Vegas. It's what I use for New Vegas, and I figure it's what I'll use for Fallout 4 as well.

Entire series playlist here (For Skyrim, but but works for NV too).

This details NV quite a bit better.

For all your modding needs, Mod Organizer. In a nutshell, its ultimate feature is how it doesn't screw your install, by employing black magic in the form of keeping mods in a seperate install path, and in their original folders. Means no crashes from missing Master files... textures... things like that. You can also set up different profiles for different characters, and ALSO keep saves local to those profiles as well. Helps in for example... Skyrim where you want to have a mage, maybe a mystic... a dual-wield swordsman, a rogue, archer maybe... you could in practice make profiles for every single one of those characters, and mods you might have downloaded pertaining to making those characters better... separate load orders for those profiles, seperate .ini files as well. It's chock-full of options, with the utmost in "conflict"-solving that I've ever seen in a mod manager. I'd definitely check it out.

I know newer mod managers are probably out there, but I've used FOMM for my New Vegas since 2012 and I've found that it's Package Manager is my favorite way of installing mods. You can just make a neat separate folder for mods, put everything in it's own category and import them into the Data folder as packages (so you can move the stuff in and out of your Data folder by just activating or deactivating the package).

I'm also one of those people who just won't move on if something old works and hasn't disappointed me.

I personally like NMM it's simple and easy to use. It has some problems but they aren't anything serious.

For Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas I recommend FOMM 0.14.11.12 which you can get from here:

http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54991/?

For Skyrim, Nexus Mod Manager as it is easy to use and I haven't experienced any issues with it despite install a boat-load of mods.

I use Mod Organizer for Skyrim and Tale of Two Wastelands. You watch some videos and read up on some tutorials and Mod Organizer doesn't feel so overwhelming when you look at it.

Is it the best? For me sure! Whatever Mod Manager you find the easiest to understand and work with is the best one for you IMO. I think they all have something to bring to the table.

lol what

The entire point of a mod manager is to keep track of your files.
Use your brain when it comes to mod conflicts, read the readme and use LOOT (I think LOOT supports fallout, if not use boss).

Also Wrye is the true patrician mod manager.
NMM is pretty easy and complementary with Wrye.

I tried using Mod Organizer but so many mods need an actual installation which is why I ended up back with nexus mod manager. I know Mod Organizer has a lot of benefits but my game is stable enough for me. If you are new to modding Bethesda softworks games again use nexus mod manager its much more user friendly in my opinion.

I think each Manager has Pros and Cons

But on Average Nexus Mod Manager is the best to use from what I can tell

The best Mod Manager? Empty
PostSubject: Re: The best Mod Manager?   The best Mod Manager? EmptySun Jan 03, 2016 6:05 pm

Mod Organizer is the best mod manager for Skyrim & Fallout New Vegas. & the reason why I think it's the best is because of it's unique separated file/archive management. Mods are installed in another "virtual" data folder & are even packaged again into their own separated folders individually & not bunched up or mixed together in the default data folder. & since they are separated, there's no risk of being overwritten or erased. The other advantages of this feature are the easiness of sorting out conflicts & making personal customizations. In sorting out conflicts, like with replacer mods (items, body types, NPCs, etc) one would just switch archive priorities to fix bugs like grey face (NPCs), missing/wrong textures or meshes. In making personal customizations, like with checking & editing mesh or texture files, one would just locate the mod in the selection & make tweaks within the mod's personal folder itself.

It can be argued that using MO is complicated but in the long run it is worth knowing. One would eventually run into a mod or a combo of mods that will need MO's separated archive feature. As examples: Dragbody's stuff has tremendous amounts of archives & managing them is kinda complicated. MO made it easier for me because it made it easy to switch archives around, to figure out which archive takes priority in order for the meshes & textures show up properly in the game. Me444's Under 2 Suns mod also has a bunch of archives required & has to be manually prioritized to make all meshes & textures appear fine.

Here's a simple video example (Skyrim) about using & switching between a bunch of NPC replacers (Bijin NPCs, SOGS, NPC85) - making them work properly & avoid the grey face bug by using MO -
Spoiler:
- this kind of dynamic cannot be achieved by any other mod manager.
