Guns, then lockpick, repair, and finally speech.

Sneak, followed by guns, then repair, lock picking and science for computer hacking, and the rest I equally upgrade since I use them the least. Sneak and guns are my top two because at a lower levels, with low stats I usually sneak around and when I have to kill, it's usually longer ranges with a rifle along with a sneak attack critical hit.

I'm always master guns first for aim with scope-rifle.
For Fallout 3 sneak and repair, for NV repair and science could be the next.

Either repair or guns.

I start out with lockpick, so I can access as much loot as possible. If I have time to before level 15, I'll max out science to supplement that with terminal hacking(also, RobCo Certified. Hell yes.). I will always ensure to [nearly] max out repair by level 15 for the holy grail of all perks and economy-breaking goodness... Jury Rigging. From that point, I go to barter to make sure my trading abilities are properly OP, and also because the Long Haul perk is nice as well(I think Pack Rat has a barter requirement, too... I love my carry weight-related perks). Once my dominion over the wasteland economy is established, I go for guns, energy weapons, and unarmed at about the same rate, then pretty much do everything else on impulse from there.

I like to max out either repair, guns, or speech. Really depends what I'm trying to do in game. They max out quick so it doesn't really matter which of the three you max first.

Speech. Too many dialogue checks depend on it.

i susally split all my starting skill points between guns and lockpick.. those two always seem to be my essential skills. Although i usually only get guns to about 80 before i start spending the other earned skills on something else, such as survival or speech

Speech is necessary for so many quests if you want the best outcome.

Sometimes I go for a mix between Gun and Stealth as well.

Well I tag the skills speech. guns and repair and max them in that order. Of course I also use the console (and a few select mods) to make my game experience easier and end up maxing them all anyway.

I focus on speech, but I try to do everything evenly. Except for survival and unarmed. Never use either of those.

I'm going to go with lockpick, then guns, and finally speech. I say lockpick first because there is that one sniper rifle in the need very high lockpick to get. I think its the gobi campaign rifle. Then guns so I don't sway with the rifle when I do get it. Finally speech gets you out many a situation(or into one).

I usually try to max out either Repair, Medicine or Guns skills it always depends on how I feel in different saves. Everything else is developed evenly.

Speech and lockpick then science, simply because I'm kind of OCD and don't wanna miss anything in the game

Every single playthrough, my character's been a silver-tounged devil. However, I've found that if you don't max out speech - it really makes the game significantly more difficult. I'm really taking a different approach this time and making my character a mindless brute. That being said, I'm doing Unarmed and Guns.
