| I like the mechanics and the extra features of fnv like the sights and companion wheels so because its just a more developed game I prefer new Vegas, saying that I definatley miss exploring the huge abandoned urban areas and the greater variety in settlements of fallout 3. Vegas was fun to explore but it was mostly just desert with a few little towns and caves to explore, DC had places like arefu and abandoned metros to creep around.
Playing f3 with requiem for capitol wasteland back in the day was awsum tho _________________ There are two sides to every story, dont take the first side you hear as the truth

| I'm kinda torn I liked FO3's story and dlcs more but new vegas had more weapon customizability and the unique weapons actually felt unique instead of just a weapon with a name and I slightly buffed stat |

| I prefer Fallout New Vegas to Fallout 3, F3 felt so empty to me barely any settlements to be found just piles of rocks also the game had crappy guns expect for the Chinese Assault Rifle, New Vegas just feels full of people and places to go and alot better guns though some of the dlc's were sub-part |

that's funny because people say the total opposite about the games. I've read more people prefer 3 over NV which is weird to me... I do like FO3 dlc options but that's about it. |

| Don't make me choose! This is why I use Tale of Two Wastelands... - Gif:
But if you want me to really get down into it...  Fallout 3 had much better world and (aesthetic) character design, I feel like these are Bethesda's strong points, they had a vision of a dead world they wanted to make and they made it, and populated it with inhumane decorations that accent the thematic elements you'd expect from a nuclear apocalypse. Going out in the wasteland was exciting, you'd never know what to expect at first with the random encounter system. I felt like I was genuinely in danger heading north, what with all of the wildlife, raiders, and enclave sprawled about. I felt like I wasn't alone when I was taking cover from raiders and suddenly a squad of outcasts would come in and decimate them. I really loved the feeling I got when I first went through the metro tunnels, it was unsettling being alone in the dark with mutants, ghouls, and raiders while I desperately sought out Three Dog in the seemingly mystic ruins of DC. On to the cons, it definitely felt out of touch with previous Fallout games writing-wise, mainly because it lacked the humor Fallout 1 and 2 had interlaced oh so well into the world. There were a few lackluster bits in the main narrative, (none I'd care to point out explicitly, but they're there.) As well as some dead end NPCs that could have been expanded upon.  Fallout New Vegas, however, did things differently. This felt more like a classic Fallout game, the setting was there, the humor was there, the characters that mattered were a lot more fleshed out, and there were more open-ended ways to approach the main narrative. (Not to mention the callbacks of classic characters.) The companions were infinitely better than the ones in Fallout 3, with each of them having their own unique story that panned out several different ways. The equipment as well has been greatly expanded upon, adding way more weapons, ammo types and more intuitive stat data. Although I mostly attribute that to it being a newer installment. However, the world needed work. The strip was, unfortunately, quite disappointing, with it being small and divided due to hardware/software limitations. There weren't enough apocalyptic elements to convince you the world was fucked up, the new and expanded upon creatures and factions were fitting to the theme, but I wanted to see more legion atrocities, more NCR political disputes, more seedy casino gang business. I also felt character designs weren't very good, some are fine, but a lot of the NPCs just looked, well ugly. It seemed like Obsidian just wasn't very good with gamebryo to be honest.  In summary, Fallout 3 had better characters and world design, Fallout New Vegas had better writing  gameplay elements. You decide which one you like more, cause I can't. Except for DLC, I liked FNV's DLC a lot more that Fallout 3's. I may have left some things out in the comparison, but I'm sure the point is clear enough. TL;DR Both great, can't decide. |

| Fallout: New Vegas had much better characters, more interesting people and a better story. Fallout 3 had... a few interesting quests and a couple of interesting characters. Sorta. Fallout 3 had way better Raiders though. I loved how Raiders always taunted you in battle, they were oddly quiet for me in New Vegas and I missed that. |

| I love both games. They really introduced me to RPGs. FO3 had a better atmosphere than FNV. You felt scared and didn't know where you were going. It was so dark. You would see prisoners to super mutants, raider victims getting blown up, wildlife jumping at you at all angles, the areas you walked through were desolate and downright disturbing at times. And with mods, you could turn the game into a downright horror survival stimulator. Just watch this guys vids and you will see how deadly the Capital Wasteland can be with mods. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQZHJ6z0jjgODBZM5MU1dUzutO2buqsL4 The Game had a great story with great characters in my opinon, but it felt like you didn't really have a choice at all. You can only help the Brotherhood of Steel.
FNV however, was a huge improvement and succeeded in all levels except for atmosphere. That is the biggest flaw of the game in my opinion. You didn't feel as if you were really in a warzone. You didn't see any Legionaries taking their group of slaves throughout the wasteland. You didn't see any crucifixions except for in Nipton, Cottenwood Cove and certain quest events. You didn't really see the fiends at their lowest point. You didn't see any victims being tortured, hoping to be saved. The atmosphere in FNV was not like FO3's. It didn't feel like it gave the atmosphere it wanted to give, sadly. There are some DARK moments in FNV, but that's really it. FNV was more cheery and more of a classic Fallout game, however. The most serious FNV has been was with Lonesome Road with Uylesses and it's history. The story and gameplay was a huge improvement though. All the factions were in that grey area. They have good and bad things about them. The NCR is a representation of the corrupt government back in the 40s-60s, since FNV shows a more coming out of the 50s into 60s vibe in my opinion. The men and woman that fight for their country are good people, but the government that is in charge of them are corrupt as hell. The Legion are probably in the darker area than the grey area, because they're slavers that do horrible things to people. There is so much more to the story that you can do MULTIPLE playthroughs as a Legionnaire, NCR soldier, or an independent warrior. Also, ironsights. *Drops mic*
I love both games with a passion. They're some of my favorite games of all time. But I have to go with FNV on this one. _________________ Flickr | STEAM | NEXUS <--- Where you can connect with me

| Definetly Fallout 3. It had that "Its all over" feeling not to mention that you had to fight your way throug a bunch of supermutants just to go to the grocery in DC. |

| New Vegas for me, FO3 couldn't really keep my attention, it captured it as @themattcon mentioned, fighting super mutants to talk a small walk was okay, but I don't really remember much about it, I remember it sat on my 360 collecting dust until I got it for PC installed played to about the same level/area of content and it collected "virtual" dust until New Vegas and I've never looked back.
It struck me as odd because in terms of Oblivion & Skyrim complete opposite, I can boot up Oblivion and play for hours still, I left the cave or whatever it was in Skyrim seen the first town and character creation walked aimlessly to some crappy dim town and never played again.
Lol upon reflection, maybe I just like the brighter settings more since it's always so dreary irl where I'm located. _________________ School may be kicking my ass if I don't reply to a PM.

| Subject: Fallout 3 vs Fallout New Vegas: A review Sat Nov 07, 2015 1:25 am | |
| So with fallout 4 right around the corner decided to do a little bit of a review. As such I will be reviewing both fallout three and Fallout new Vegas in their graphics gameplay and storyline along with other things.
Note that this is a personal opinion and reflects no opinion but my own. So if you don't like it to bad.
1 Graphics.
Can't really give a point to either fallout 3 or new Vegas for this one as they're both using the same game engine. That said I do believe that fallout new Vegas does look slightly better. But it receives no points for that.
2 Story.
I definitely have to give the point fallout 3 with this one. Mostly because I believe that the story is better than that of fallout new Vegas. The story behind fallout 3 is that you lived in a vault your whole life and now have to explore the world trying to find your father (played by Liam Neeson) You have a reason to continue into the world and explore and try to find him. The story actually drives you.
In fallout new vegas you get shot in the head and then are on a quest for revenge? teah doesn't really sit well with me.
3 Gameplay
I think that New vegas may take the point on this one but I don't think that's a good thing. Mostly because of the aiming down the sights in New Vegas. how often did you use vats when you just had the ability to just aim down the sights of the weapon. So I can't really tell if this is a good thing or bad. In fallout 3 I always used vats when entering an engagement. Move in, use vats, blow super mutants head off, clean up leftovers. Never really did that in new vegas.
4 Worldspace
Have to give the point to fallout 3 for this one because of the awsomeness that is the capital wasteland. New vegas had a great idea but a poor follow-through. When you look at vegas you see a large city with plenty of attractions. When you look at new vegas you see a few burned out buildings. I know that fallout 3 is identical to real life but just being able to wander around the destroyed city was enough for me.
5 Locations and cities
Different from the worldspaces are the actual locations in each game. Fallout 3 mostly has a few military bases along with some other things, but it really does have more interesting cities. The first city you come across in fallout 3 is built around AN UNEXPLODED BOMB! if that doesn't set the tone nothing will. New vegas's first city is goodsprings....
More or less a hole in the ground.
I do understand that its supposed to be a crappy place but come on. They could definatly do better than that. Give me a few days and i would at least have some decent walls up.
That said I think that New vegas might have better locations overall, but not by much so I can't really give a point to either side.
6 Weaponry.
Have to give the point to New Vegas on this one because of the sheer number of guns in the game. 9mm pistol, 10mm pistol, 12.7mm pistol, silenced .22. And that's just the pistols. Fallout 3 had the chinese pistol a 10mm pistol and a silenced version. But that said I have to give Fallout 3 an honerable mention because although they had a smaller amount of guns to me they felt more usefull in the long run.
7 Armor
Can't really decide on which side to give this to mostly because (barring a few uniques) both games have pretty much the same armor. Both have some that can't be gotten and some that are shared between both games. So niether side gets a point here.
8 DLC
Have to give the point to Fallout 3 on this one simply because New Vegas commits the cardinal sin of have story based DLC. And what I mean by that is that the New Vegas DLC continues the players story whereas Fallout 3 has adventure DLC. Although Fallout 3 has Broken Steel (which continues the main game) I can forgive it because it isn't really required. Sure you can get it and it adds a lot of new content on top of extending the main game so it has that going for it but all 4 of New vegas DLC's told the story of the player (in some way shape or form) New vegas also loses points for having the Gun Runners Arsenel. A DLC that should have been in thgame in the first place but wasn't. Sure a few new unique weapons were added but most of it was old weapon with a moding ability. Very disapointed in that.
That also said New Vegas redeems itself by having one of my favorite DLC's of all time.
DEAD MONEY
Oh sure a lot of people hated it for having it set in a dead city with no uber weapons or armor and you had to scrounge for equipment. But that's what I loved about it. It gave you the feeling of being alone in a city that wanted to kill you. It was almost Like Silent Hill! and it's really hard to hate that.
9 Modding
Kinda have to give the point to new vegas here because of the fact that a lot of people still mod for new vegas. Although some still mod for fallout 3 not nearly as many people do than for new vegas ( Although I am sure that number will drop quickly after the release of fallout 4) Buta after the announcment of fallout 4 a lot of people went back to modding new vegas. I find that there are more higher quility mods for new vegas than fallout 3. Although this may partly because of the passage of time as some of the better mods fade into darkness and the like..
So let's compare the two games and tally up the points.
Fallout New Vegas: 4 points
While mostly being a copy-paste of fallout 3 it does enough things differently that makes it interesting. And with a dedicated modding community you can be sure of plenty more hours of entertainment from it.
Fallout 3: 100,000,000,000,000 points
It has Liam Neeson. End of story.
Alright fine....
Fallout 3: 4 points
Fallout 3 to me has a better world and story than New Vegas. Which to me makes the game more entertaining than new vegas. Although few modders still work on the game and the numbers will only go down with the release of fallout 4 it does have a few gems if you know where to look.
Some of you agree or disagree with my ramblings but these are just my personal opinions.
Thank you and have a good day. |

| Well, I played Fallout 3 shortly after it was released. I always thought it was great; Most of the DLCs are great (especially Mothership Zeta), the atmosphere is awesome as well and I loved Megaton and four of it's inhabitants (two of which I can't remember the name of, now that I think about it). After playing Skyrim for a very, very long time, I heard of Fallout New Vegas.
And I fell in love. As in, I loved that game from the first second. The setting of Vegas was interesting, many of the characters are much better written and Wild Wasteland is something Fallout 4 just needs. The humor is great as well, and the gameplay is so good that I couldn't play Fallout 3 for a while after playing through New Vegas (Sadly I can't install Tale of Two Wastelands because I only have the german copy of the Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition). It makes sense that the writing, humor and gamplay mechanics are better (or at least more advanced) than they are in Fallout 3, considering that Obsidian had Fallout 3 as a base and was used to making Fallout games. I'm not saying that they didn't do any work, though; As I mentioned, gameplay is better, writing is great, characters are memorable and I'm not sure wether Fallout 4 will live up to some of the standards Fallout New Vegas set.
All in all, both games are great. But I prefer Fallout New Vegas.
(Don't quote me on most of that stuff though. I wrote this down without researching anything. I just used my memory.) |

| NV cus you are more a blank slate at the start and you the player builds from that, its not like fallout 3 that you start off as a vault dweller living in safety _________________ |
