This topic is for G.FX. Specialists Administration purposes only.

Only moderators of this section can, may and should post here.
This is why it is locked.

For GFX Specialists, they will have to UNLOCK, POST, and then LOCK the topic back. If any regular members post here by accident, their post will be removed.

Most of these features/regulations here are open
to eventual change/adjustment/improvement.

Further, any Graphics related plans/projects/ideas (like banner contests, new color designs, holiday skins, a major emoticon organizing/categorizing overhaul, etc.) or administration of the Graphic Design section should be presented by GFX Specialists here. Please don't half-ass your responsibilities here. We need to keep the site pleasant, fresh and interesting.

P1. Site design suggestions:
Should any GFX Specs show initiative with a new idea, bring it up here for open discussion. Should any regular members have ideas to submit in this endeavor, they must communicate them to a GFX Specialist who they will trust to filter it through their own reasoning and then present it in any form here.
GFX Specs are not obligated to forward any ideas if they don't find them interesting enough or appropriate.

P2. Graphic Administration suggestions:
Any administrative decisions concerning the GFX crew or the Graphic Design subforum may also be discussed here and voted on.
Introducing any new aspect to the GFX Spec system, or even rehashing old mechanisms, including anything established or presented in this post and these guidelines here, shouldn't be a rare occurrence.

P3. Keeping track of related input:
A calculation of the votes (YES/NO) and other suggestions made on a certain idea proposed under this section will be listed and updated by the Group Moderator until the matter finds its solution (or dissolution)

S (for Scoreboard)

Finally, and probably most importantly, we will have nominations of prospect G.FX. Specialists here in this topic.
This is a preview of how our Promotion system works for the other Ranks for exclusive access, but on a smaller scale (also a bit simplified... I'm serious Razz ).

I'd like you to take into account a member's quality of submissions and feedback given to other submissions, before voting for him or her.

S1. Responsibilities:
Each member of the GFX team may nominate new members to it, and must vote on nominations made by others.
Personal, real life issues may prevent one or more of the Specialists to vote immediately, and we understand that.
However, repeated, unjustified oversight is inexcusable.
This comes with the title. Either respect your duties or step off.
Prolonged absence from this topic may justify demotion.

S2. Other types of Nominations:
Typically, we will vote for who should join the GFX Specialist team.

We may also, rarely, nominate and vote for Demotions from the group. If either of the team members are unjustifiably inactive, for a long period of time, or if they're still active on the forums but have stopped contributing to the graphics aspects of the site, and to this subforum specifically, then he or she can be nominated for demotion. For example, we could bring up Undeadsewer at this point, for his unexplained absence and apparent abandonment.

We may also vote for a Group Moderator (team-leader)
Currently I'm occupying the spot by default, but we've had OlgaK on it before she went offline with real life issues, and was later on inducted in the Purple Hearts. This position may be dynamically occupied by different people, depending on who's the most active, talented and/or capable to run the team efficiently.

Responsibilities of this title range from updating the Scoreboard, making sure this topic is locked, and pushing for votes on any project/idea/nomination left unresolved in it.

Any GFX specialist member may self-nominate for the Leading spot.
A few links to their most recent work would help their candidature.
Only merit and availability must count for this position.
No ass-kissing, no favors and no bribing.

S3. General instances of Votes:
If the nominee would be a good match for the team responsible with the visual improvement of GUNetwork, then the vote should be YES.

If their activity is insufficient or if it's too soon to tell, but the nominee has potential further down the line, or, simpler, if they should take some time to slightly improve on their skills and hone the craft, vote Wait.

If their work is inappropriate or hopeless, if they've stolen, butchered or otherwise not done anything significant to their submitted material, as well as other similar reasons I can't foresee, then vote NO.

S4. Argumentation, Reasoning of Votes:
On a nomination, you may vote YES, NO or Wait
but, considering this topic can still be read by everyone,
and in order to avoid feelings of nominees being hurt,
I'd like a well argumented reason for each vote given.
This also serves to prove that each Spec who votes
has taken the time to review the nominee's activity.

"because his nickname is funny"
"because he's a friend of mine"

or "because I don't like his face"
are not valid votes.

Consider the time and effort they've invested in the Graphics section, and the quality of their work and feedback given, before nominating or voting.
Any nomination, as well as any arguments for or against the promotion in the voting process, should withstand scrutiny and must be confronted if it turns out to be false/misleading.

Also, do not base your vote on someone else's votes or arguments.
"because my colleague trusts him"
"because of reasons said before"

are not valid votes either.
Make your own appreciation of the nominee, independently, and explain your reasoning behind your own vote choice. Do not vote for X because you trust the person who voted for X, but because you trust X yourself. You may say "I agree that..." or "I also took into consideration that...", but it can't be the basis of your decision. Your own analysis should be at your vote's core.

S5. Layout of the Scoreboard
Nominations must be introduced under "OnGoing"
Once a nominee earns at least 3 YES votes (and less than 3 NO or Wait votes), he/she enters a 48 hour Pending period, in which any and all objections to the Promotions must be expressed. Should these 2 days expire without any objection, the promotion will be applied under the category "Promoted"
If there is a tie, of or above 3 votes, between YES and NO votes, or if the member receives at least 3 Wait votes, then the member will be placed under the "Waiting" Category until things change.
With 3 NO votes (and less than 3 Wait or YES votes), they will be removed from the Scoreboard under the "Removed" category.

Demotions and Team Leader nominations will be listed under their own categories.

S6. Updating the Scoreboard
For the immediate future I will update the Scoreboard every time new votes are expressed here. Once we choose a different Team Leader, he/she will be responsible with updating the Scoreboard.

The reasons for NO and Wait votes will be carried onto the Scoreboard, in short, in parenthesis, because not everyone might pick up on some of them, and they may be important, if not even critical. However, they must be verified before being taken into consideration.

The reasons for YES votes, although expressed with each vote given, will not be carried onto the scoreboard, because each voter must find these by themselves, in their own discovery.

Demotion nominations will carry its argumentation in short, in a parenthesis.

S7. Procedures
All the above instructions are not for the sake of being overly complicated/cryptic/bureaucratic, but for efficiency, fairness and order. Lacking rules, we're left with chaos, and we all see what the youtube comments sections or reddit discussion boards look like without rules.

Personally I dislike all this procedure, but it's necessary if we want nice things in a nice environment. Also, it is not absolute or totalitarian. Any improvement suggestions and changes are welcomed under the P2. subsection. They will be heard, supported, confronted and voted on, each step of the way.

Also, some exceptions to these norms are possible, within reason and/or by majority vote (if everyone agrees they're appropriate). One-sided bias or favoritism will not be well received, so try to be objective and fair.

To start the scoreboard off, I will make two nominations:
Promotion for @The New Skynet as she has submitted at least 10 banners in the Graphical Challenge topic, and most importantly, has provided great feedback to the other submissions, something I expect more of you GFX Specialists will start doing.

Demotion for @Undeadsewer. I often see him playing games on Steam, but he doesn't respond to my messages. He hasn't checked his PMs here in several months and hasn't updated his "achievements" bars with the forum's name change, so they are outdated/unusable now.
Perhaps he lost interest. Perhaps he forgot about us.
Some of his achievement bars are still widely used by our members, though, so you may hold that, alongside a hope of an eventual return, to vote against his demotion.


Now, you guys vote YES (for promotion or demotion), NO (against promotion or demotion) or Wait (as in "maybe later"), with arguments (short one-liners or detailed paragraphs, as long as they're on point) to explain why you chose to vote that way.

Henceforth, the emoticons management should fall under the responsibilities of the GFX Specs. Yay or nay? No wait votes on this Wink

Got a new Plan (P1 this time) we should investigate.
Several members on the chatbox (@MoDDeRAus @Svide @The New Skynet ) suggested that we should make Colonials (bronze) bear the color of the Established (cyan/teal) and the Established get the color of the Colonials in return.

Their arguments consisted of "cyan is a good color", "I like the teal", "Just saying it looks like you're cooler than approved members with the established", as well as "Brown or <bronze> how you call is ugly" and "I think it's because it's a (Colon)ial"

To be frank, I chose Colonials to be bronze partly because Colonizing new lands reminds me of Western times of civilizing the wild west, and because NCR from Fallout have brown/tan armors.

But it should be considered that people appreciate Cyan more.
It's closer to the green from Veterans, and to the sky-blue of Paladins
while Brown for Established could be related to having built roots in the community and such...

idk... you may well come up with your own arguments or solutions and we'll discuss and vote on them under P1.
I don't really have a strong opinion on this matter, but the popular demand is for Colonials to be Cyan.
Side effects could be quite a bit of confusion and panic (akin to what I did on April Fools' day closed eyes smile ) but we'll make sure to announce that the change is legit this time around and that only chromatic changes have been made, not permission/rank changes.

As a side-note, I'd appreciate it if @SixShooter and @Madboy would give us their input on all matters already in discussion here, and subscribe to this topic for any new posts to it.

I don't mind switching the Established/Colonials colors around. I even suggest we switch our (GFX Specialist) color to red.. BigGrin

- So that's a YES from me to change the Established/Colonials colors.

- And YES for emoticon management. I think its a good idea and makes sense.

Hopefully we get some feedback from @SixShooter and @Madboy soon I'd like to see what their opinion is on this matter.

As for the color change. I wouldn't mind it, Might as well try it for a month or how ever long and see peoples response to it.

I had a rule against the usage of Red in anything staff related.
it's intimidating, reprimanding. teachers would mark your papers with red ink.
STOP, DANGER and ACCESS DENIED signs would be typically red
Republicans and Communists alike share red imagery, as well closed eyes smile
see what I'm getting at?

Perhaps, subconsciously, part of why I avoided using red is also that
In the last year on the old forum, before it was shut down due to costs/debt,
our constant calls for donations were marked with red text above every page.

It wasn't a good feeling to see it up there every day.
It's even worse to mark a certain staff group as such.

It's one of the basic things you learn in mass psychology.
People get along better with less red around.

Believe me, I love red on just about everything, from cars to spaceships,
from warrior armors to weapons decorations and food and candy.
We just can't use it in administration closed eyes smile

As for the other groups, "trying it out" is not a decent idea in my opinion.
mainly because those who know themselves to be approved know themselves to be brown.
likewise those who know themselves pending for approval and are established,
expect to be turned to brown any day now.

Switching the colors once would be a one time thing, we could explain it once.
Doing it a second time would be inconsiderate towards them, even a bit cruel.
We'd be playing with people's emotions closed eyes smile

At least that's my take on it.
Feel free to outvote me, then, if these arguments don't convince you.

@The New Skynet - Yes (Promotion) - S/He is doing an awesome job from what I can tell, every time I get on, I see a new banner. That brings
a smile to my face, seeing as s/he really wants to contribute to our community.

@Undeadsewer - Yes (Demotion) - I have not seen him around the forums at all lately, I enjoyed his work with the "achievements"
but I would think it would be of better interest if he was demoted and moved to the Purple Hearts for what he did, leaving another
position open for another talented member.


Again sorry for my absence everyone, my exams finish mid-next week and i'll be back and bringing some stuff for the site i've been working on to help me unwind after crazy study sessions and such.
Thanks @DVAted for putting this together, it's great that we can voice our suggestions/opinons/ideas. Keep up the work team and i'll see you in the wasteland soon!

Established ( RGB # 18AB89 )
Colonials ( RGB # 8F7151 )
- 3 YES - APPROVED
Established and Colonial member group colors have been switched
based on GFX Visual Decision Order P1./14th June 2015.
This is simply a color change, not a name or permissions change.
Every Established still has to earn their votes.
Every Colonial keeps current access.


P2. Emoticons under Graphics Section - 3 YES - APPROVED

So then, as per DVAted and Delineator's discussion over in the Graphical Enhancement thread, we should discuss what we want the cap on number of banners to be (50? 100?) and how they should be selected for addition to the rotation.

Whoopsie, sorry I didn't notice this thread before, I've been held up for the past while. However, I do agree that red would be too intimidating for an administrative role. It would invoke defensiveness in people even if they've done nothing wrong, which would lead to more unneeded arguments.

But that point has already been argued. I must say though, one important factor of graphic design being successful is to only change the site's appearance around when absolutely necessary. Keeping a consistent design for the site makes people feel more comfortable, constant change and rearranging makes the site look like it's going through some form of turmoil, making people more uncomfortable. A consistent design for the site helps people stay grounded, and lets them feel more at home on a site. With community being such a big focus here, allowing users to be comfortable and having them enjoy their time should be a high priority.

I know the site doesn't change THAT much, but in our relatively short time on this newer domain, it's been redesigned a few times. That seems to have slowed down now, but this is just for future reference. Other than that I'm not entirely sure what to say, never been much on speeches TongueTril

Although, it might be a good idea to either reduce the amount of banners, or have them capped off at their current level, and either turn away new entries, or have competitions to decide which one out of say..5 entries gets inducted in. And in turn, which old banner gets voted out.


Yes, I know this is going against what I said earlier, but I feel as though the site should have a bit more yellow on it, to coincide with the sort of Vault-tec aesthetic, given that the Fallout 4 hype train is currently at full speed. Again, there needs to be actual testing on that, I'll whip up some concepts when I get the time, but for now everything looks fine TongueTril

EDIT: also, I have no idea exactly how to lock topics, or if i even can, probably would have been a good idea to learn that TongueTril

I could go either way on banner caps,
we could push it to 100 or cut it down to 50
I won't yet vote for one specifically.

I could make an illustrated list of all the banners that are already included
if that will help you get a better idea of what to keep and what to put aside closed eyes smile

We could also have another topic
where we discuss the better banner submissions
and we could vote on them in a different scoreboard there
That's a thought TongueTril ... so what do you reckon?

I think I'd be fine with going up to 100. If they're 100 quality banners. But realistically 50 is probably the more manageable number.

as for your vote on P2.A - very ambiguous closed eyes smile do I register the realistic vote? or the "fine with" vote? lol
but you make a good point - less banners means less work, but then again it also means a higher standard, and so tougher decisions on which to include and which to remove. tough call. but this is why we have our team here Smile Cheers

I suppose if pressed for a firm answer, I'd say let's go with 50 for now. If we think there are too many good banners getting left behind, we can always vote up the limit again.

Id say for the 100 or the 50 banners option, Id have to go with 50 for that one, id rather have 50 of the best ones than 100 eh ones.
