| Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I just downloaded Fallout 3 from Steam and it had "Fallout 3 not compatible with Windows 7 and above" as a disclaimer on the store page. This is my first time playing the game on a computer, and I was wondering if/how people have dealt with this issue. Thank You! Edit: Sorry mods, I should have put this in troubleshooting lol _________________ |

| I bought the Game on Steam and i saw the Disclaimer after i bought it. I have Win 7 and an AMD Octacore. I found this in the Bethesda forum. I can't post a link so i post the Text:
As Fallout 3 was created prior to the release of Windows 7 and 8, it is not tested or supported on either of these newer operating systems. There are, however, a few workarounds that players can use to run the game.
First, you may be able to run it using compatibility mode. To change compatibility settings for Fallout 3:
Locate the application file for the game. This can be found in one of the following folders depending on which version of the game you use: Retail versions: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3 Steam versions: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Fallout 3 Right-click on the application file and select Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Check the box Run this program in compatibility mode. Choose Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the drop-down. It may also be necessary to check the box for Run this program as an administrator. Repeat steps 2-6 for the Fallout 3 launcher file in the same folder. It is labeled: FalloutLauncher Run the game.
Next, Fallout 3 was not developed for use on PCs with more than two cores. If your PC has more than two cores, please also try the following steps:
Open your My Documents folder. Under My Games, open the Fallout 3 folder and select the fallout.ini file. In the fallout.ini file, find the following line: bUseThreadedAI=0 Change this line to read: bUseThreadedAI=1 Add another line after it that reads: iNumHWThreads=2 Run the game.
And for me its working fine. |

| Game has worked fine for me by simply installing the latest GFWL from MS then the Updated Unofficial Patches plus FOSE. I suspect FOSE is what gets everything working correctly tho since it disables LIVE integration.
FO3 runs perfectly on Win 7/8/8.1/10 for me. |

| Its as simple as changing the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 3, also using CFF Explorer to make FO3 use more memory is also handy in performance.
Moving this from Fallout Discussion to Fallout Troubleshooting. |

| I run Fallout 3 perfectly on W7 and W8/8.1 - all I did was disable G4WL. You've seen the gazillions of screenshots I've posted here yes? Every single one was taken on a W7/W8 PC. |

| @Tesvixen When I disabled G4WL, the game ceased to work at all for some reason. Did you have to do any of the fixes that Crais recommended? _________________ |

| I didn't do any of that. When I got Windows 7 (and later, I literally installed the game, broke G4WL with the program on nexus, resumed modding/playing. Never bothered with any compatibility modes, or altering the number of cores (my machine is a quad core, so maybe I should do that) in my .ini. |

| Thanks @everybody, I think all of your advice is helpful and I will use all of these suggestions! I had been hesitant to buy the game for the last few days because of that disclaimer, but I think I was over-thinking it and tripping out over something that doesn't seem to be too much of a big deal, lol. _________________ |
