So i been trying for some time to get fallout 3 to work on my PC. and it just wont happen. No matter what i try.

Ive tried the tricks online of how to get it to work, but none of them worked.

If it gives an error box on start up, what does it say ? Or does it just crash to desktop during launch up ?

I ran into an issue running Fallout 3 on Windows 8 a long time ago.

I launched the game using the Fallout Mod Manager and it came up with an error, so then I when into FOMM's install tweaker and checked off "Use fake xlive dll".

Haven't had a problem since.

its in the case from gamestop.

Fallout 3 doesn't play well with quad core processors.

The engine simply doesn't support quad cores, it did prior to the 1.1 patch but once that patch came out support for them was dropped.

The only other suggestion I can think of off the top of my head is to disable GFWL, if you have not already done that.

I have both the retail GOTY edition and the original version, I've only run into that one aforementioned error, and that was fixed with the fake live dll.

At this point the problem you're experiencing could be anything from a driver issue to a hardware issue.

To be honest I'm at a bit of a loss with this so I wish you good luck.

NOPE. comes up saying cannont find your falloutprefs.ini file

At this point all I can suggest is to search for problems similar to yours on Google. Maybe you'll come across something that I missed.

Just re-enable GFWL with that program and it should revert it back to before.

On a side note, most people who need their Fallout 3 fix use TTW for FNV. It's a mod that basically merges F3's content into NV. This allows you to play Fallout 3 on the slightly more modern NV engine. A few others here use it and are happy with what it has to offer.
