I have recently reinstalled fallout 3  and have come across an issue making the game unplayable as it crashes on startup. My system specs are the following:

GTX 980 Classified 4GB

Intel core i5 3GHZ (Can't remember which version though)

12GB ram

Any other Specs that are need , please let me know.

What makes this odd is that I have played this game so many times over the past couple years vanilla and modded  and had no issues however no i can't even load the game up vanilla. When launching my windows seems to change the theme back to default(UI colour) and I see the BOS wallpaper and the music is playing however it never makes it to the menu and just crashes. I've linked an image the off what it looks like when it crashes and a message regarding the windows 7 not be compatible in the sense of the visual. The game is installed on my SSD in which I have other bethesda games on such as fallout new vegas(Obsidian) and skyrim which don't cause me any issues addition to this have tried to fix it by applying the ini file changes which are related to the CPU cores and have turned of the AA and other effect , leaving it in windowed mode which did not seem to help the issue.I tried installing FOSE to see if that would help by like the other attempts it had no effect . I am having trouble narrowing it down since I have not changed any hardware since playing last and the only changes that I could think of are either windows updates that always happens or Nvidia drives which both are up to date.

If anyone can provide some assistance I would be very greatful.

Did you open the game from the fallout 3 launcher or did you use other programs such as NVSE, Fake Fullscreen, etc.? The truth is, I don't have a clue of what could be your problem, is your Fallout a 100% vanilla?

No its completely vanilla , the only external thing I tried was FOSE but that's currently installed due to a reinstall. Also recently tried this :

Does it crash when you start a new game?

EDIT: I forgot you didn't get to the menu, I have no idea man. Maybe, reinstall it again.

Delete the My Games folder. It helped me. Maybe smth wrong with parameters from the last time playing.

For the longest time i remember this game being incompatible with Windows 7, and I've only gotten the game to work within Steam's game of the year. Which version are you using, and have you installed the patches on bethsoft's website?

It works on Win 8 on my laptop, so i think maybe deleting on My Games or installing the patches will help.

Fallout 3 works fine with W7 and W8.  In most cases the problem is Games For Windows Live.  You need to disable it (and by disable, I mean break) before FO3 will run properly.

Try this.  Works perfectly: running that program is the very first thing I do when I have to reinstall FO3 for some reason.

You sir are a Legend , it seemed that it was related to my fallout 3 folder in my games. Probably caused by an ini tweak that was caused my a mod when I had it modded ages ago . Many thanks
