| So. Before the old forum's fall, I happened to grab the Borderlands 2 and two of the original borderlands (Mordecai and Lilith) voice packs for Fallout NV by slacksterr. I remember using Zero's and Maya's VPs in FNV when I was playing it so I figured I could easily port them to FO3 since the voice files are relatively the same. (Which they are, some even have identical names) So I transferred them and now...my character is silent. Totally silent protagonist now. Not even a groan.
Is there a work around for this? I've tried a multitude of things to get this to work, including starting a brand new game. Strangely, downloading a sound pack that works for the games with files that are identical in size, description, and file type works. (In this case, it was the Legend of Zelda Link VP on the Nexus) Figured this was a bug in the games engine doing this, thus is why it's there.
Also, I have all packs on my computer. I can upload them but I'm not sure Slacksterr would want that. Waiting for permission first. _________________ |

| Hmm its been a long time since i modded fallout 3 so if any thing i say is stupid I'm sorry. This is a long shot but did you happen to replace the .lip files as well? if so try it without replacing them, i've never worked with dialog before so i don't know exactly what they are used for. In the meantime I'm gonna look into this some more. I hope this helps. |

| I never thought about that, but as I was reviewing the files I found that there wasn't any .lip files that came with them. This applies to both the BL2 and BL1 files. It's just the .ogg sound files. I also didn't think that the player character would need lip files. A lot of the player character replacers on the nexus don't have .lip files either. I'll look a little deeper into the nexus replacers and see if I can find some .lip files to give to the PC.
It did help a lot, thanks. _________________ |

| Cool i don't know anything about lip files but i have a theory. What you can do is extract the players .lip files from the Fallout - Voices.bsa into your data folder and then use the voice replacer , see if that works. It is possible that when loading voices as loose files, if the .lip files are not also present as loose files in the same folder, it may fail to load them correctly. that's just a guess. Let me know if that turns out to be the case, as it would be a pretty good guess if i was right. |

| Yeah, that apparently isn't the case at all. I checked out the Silent Player voice (Here) and the Female Voice Replacer (Here) and found that neither have .lip files either and are .ogg. I also compared the PC voice files to basic game voice files (That of NPCs and such) and while they have .lip files, the PC voice files (Fallout3.esm file) do not.
It's weird, but I'll keep experiementing. I'm going to try to match the amount of files in the silent voice pack (which is 37) and see if that does anything. (Zer0's VP has 27 files) _________________ |

| Darn, well it was worth a shot,
I seem to remember downloading a borderlands voice mod a long, long time ago, I'm gonna try to dig it up and do some experiments of my own.
I'll let you know if i figure something out and sorry i couldn't be more helpful. |

| Said it wasn't found. Not sure what to do now, I copied the mod's amount and everything and still silent character. _________________ |

| Hmm, I found something.
I was comparing the female voice replacer (Nexus) and the Maya pack for the BL2 VP.
Generic player death for maya was 21KB and was 1 second long.
Generic player death for the female voice replacer was 10KB and was...1 second long.
I smell shenanigans. _________________ |

| I found that in the female voice replacer, no file goes over 14KB. In the BL2 files, several go over the 15KB mark and go as high as 22KB. That might have something to do with it. _________________ |

| Hmm its double the size but the same length, the quality must be different, I'm bad with audio terms but quality is the bit rate right?
I will try and lower the file size and see if that helps. |

| Wait.
I think I "might' have it.
All the borderlands 2 VPs are in stereo
The Female Voice Replacer audios are in mono
That might be the problem right there.
EDIT: If the conversion to mono on my personalized pack works, I'll convert all the original packs to mono as well and release them here. I won't have Brick or Roland packs unfortunately. _________________ |

| Yes i was just about to say it, the sounds need to be mono just like 3d weapon sounds. I converted them to mono on a hunch and it worked perfectly, give it a try and see if it works for you. Edit: yep it definitely works. |

| What program did you use to convert them all to mono so fast? Audacity? _________________ |

| Yep i used Audacity, i just converted one of the power attack sounds, loaded a save then attacked and it worked.
I don't know why i didn't think of this before, the engine is always like this with sound, most of them need to be mono. |

| Okay, now, problem 2.0.
Nobody has animations.
I changed the sound and nobody has animations. They just stand there and bounce.
EDIT: They bounce and slide around the place. What the hell. _________________ |

| That's extremely strange, could you post a screenshot of what they are doing? so i can see the problem.
Sound effecting anims is impossible so its a separate issue. |

| I will come back to this tomorrow evening as I have to go work night shift.
I'll post a couple screenshots if the problem isn't alleviated by a computer restart.
Thing is, the anims screwing up only happened after I put in the sound.
EDIT: and i tried a new game as well and james was sitting there frozen during the starting sequence while the other doctor HAD anims and was working normally. _________________ |
