So basically I came up with this question because recently in fallout new vegas I have two guns that I like, one looks cooler and the other is just straight up better in stats. So do you choose looks or power? I ended up going with the power because those Legionary Assassins are a pain. But now I wanna hear from you guys. Vanity or Usefulness?

For me it is all about sound.
I don't care how powerful a gun is or even how cool it looks... but when my character pulls the trigger, I want to hear amazing, glorious gunfire.

The pragmatic in me would adjust the stats of the better looking one to be more in line with the better performing one.
If for whatever reason this was not possible, I would use the better look one for 90% ofthe time, only using the better performing one when things get too crazy.

I agree with superdupermutant, carry both andyse the good looking one for most of the time and when things start going bad use the better stats one, however if this is not a option go for the better looking one , because you'll be using it 75 percent of the time you are playing the game. Also who doesn't like a little challenge.

It's always been vanity for me. If it doesn't look good, I won't use it. Even if it's the best in the game, unless I'm playing against other players, I just won't use it.

I'd choose vanity than buff the stats in the GECK.

Vanity all the way... But for the most part, vanilla weapons really don't look that bad.. And most of the time I won't even download a mod if I don't like it cosmetically

Vanity for sure, i always play with this mod http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35037/? (Realistic Headshots) so even if im using a 9mm pistol i can still dispatch foes, if i aim for the head of course. It also just bugs me to be using a gun that i cant stand the look of.

Vanity is what it is all about. What is the point of killing if you don't look good doing it.

Well, power is what we all want lets face it. Vanity is nice and all, but at if the gun does nothing against the opponent then you are as good as dead. That being said, when I started using my favourite weapon mod (Mellenia's Mauser) I thought the gold plating was gawdy and too shiny, however after my repeated use I found it looked kinda awesome in a casino setting in a mother fucking suit. Point I am trying to make is, A gun that looks cool but is shit against opponents isnt something your gonna use very often, a powerful gun that only looks okay can kinda grow on you.

Vanity, I gotta look unique. Call me egotistical but I don't want to look like any other NPC wastelander with the same weapon as me! And I can always improve it using the G.E.C.K. if the gun is a bit weak. My Varmint Rifle has to be kick-ass!

I adjust good looking but weak guns in the Geck, like Mill's Aks74u,good looking gun, sounds good but is can't penetrate armor, that was annoying as hell when fighting against nearly everything. Also good looking means for me scratched, with strats etc. like something what survived a war,not like something what was manufactured some days ago.

Might as well go vanity since you can just edit the stats of it to match the other gun ~

I went with vanity, mainly because you could always change the stats in HECK if you wanted to. But this choice of mine is mainly geared towards armors. Weapons-wise, most of the time I go for utility, based on how common the ammo type is, or otherwise how many rounds I have in stock. I'm primarily a Guns user, so I usually go with rifles for the decent stats across the board, though I may carry a pistol or SMG to utilise the common 9mm and 10mm rounds, or a shotgun for kicks and big booms.

The cool looking gun . Nothing's useful in my hand unless it's appeal to me .

Vanity. I always go for the pretty gun. I love the look of SCARs and M4s. Especially when they're decked out with all the bells and whistles. I always edit weapons to RL stats. Or re-chamber it to a larger caliber (If that RL weapon comes in said larger caliber). Of course this sometimes backfires. A mod author may have overpowered the weapon or sped up the rate of fire and my meddling might reduce it's effectiveness. That's where the Pancor comes into play.

Vanity to hold around and looks cool, but when Deathclaws pop up, vanity goes out the window

Honestly for me it's about Vanity, fortunately I'm a cheating bastard so even the weakest gun can one shot most enemies in the game.
