Hello there,
Well I guess I'll do a short summary of who I am and what I'm here for. I've tried my hand at modding before and thanks to GTA:San Andreas I realized I am not talented whatsoever or do I possess the ability to learn such a skill. I am beyond belief when it comes to what some of you all do here. I recently picked up Fallout New Vegas and I'm in love. I played Operation Flashpoint(Which was released in 2001) for 7 straight years, even after I was already enlisted in the Army. I can't express enough how much I appreciate modded content. I still remember the days where I would literally shoot like 200 different virtual firearms in OFP in the span of a day and still be completely on the edge of my seat, hearing the different sounds, the amount of detail the author put into the content. I'm finding I am getting the same effect from Fallout NV and here I am. I do apologize for any shoddy sentence structure as it's pretty late where I'm at and I haven't had quite a whole lot of sleep. Some background on myself real quick: I'm 24, I served in the US Army(infantry) for 4 years and I did a tour in Iraq. At this point I'm trying to become a state trooper in my home state and also attending college. I can't say I will contribute because I have no clue what that means outside of releasing mods, but you let me know and I'll be the guy who breaks his back for you. Thanks for your time, and your patience. I really do apologize at the fact I'm not bringing anything to the table as far as modding or graphic design goes, but if you ever need help taking over a small village or you need some input on military stuff, let me know

I appreciate that. I've been a part of ArmA communities(Formerly OFP), Grand Theft Auto, and now Fallout.

That sounds really cool, I'm a big GTA fan myself but i never really got into the modding side of things, its a little more complicated then fallout modding.

Is it? There used to be some really amazing modders but I think the community kind of burned them out. It's only natural with GTA considering the kind of crowd it attracts. Lots of kids who feel entitled, I know I tried simple texturing jobs using photoshop and I'd get PM's from strangers asking for requests. It was a little too much, especially at that time considering my patience level and understanding.
I played San Andreas for a good 4 years though, the mods are what build a game if you ask me.

I was more thinking of the hoops you have to jump though to get the steam version of San Andreas working with mods, i did it but it was a pain in the ass.
I definitely agree with you about mods making a game, i wouldn't be still playing fallout without them that's for sure.

Oh man, I had the disc prior to the whole "Hot Coffee" scenario. I remember that and people at GTAForums just like literally sh***ing the bed. I think in total it ended up costing rockstar like 2.7 Mil or something, and they ended up blaming it on this one scripter named PatrickW. They said he added code when in reality he just found the code and re-enabled it. I feel old now.

Yeah i remember seeing that in a gaming mag way back when i played on the ps2, i remember you could get a cheat disc that would enable it even on patched copies.
It was scummy of rock star to blame it on a modder, i don't even think you can add new animations on the GTA engine let alone code a whole mini-game.
Rockstar have a history of stuff like this, they pretty much assassinated the render pipeline in gta 4 with the last patch. I had herad that it was a deliberate attempt to screw over ENB and other graphics mods development, witch is why its annoying to get them to work with the 1.07 patch.

Yeah well money. It kind of went the same way with the community, there had been guys who had been following since the 2D Rockstar games(early 2000's I believe). They got pushed aside for the new multiplayer aspect. Again, money. So far what I'm seeing as far as the fallout community it kind of reminds me of Operation Flashpoint. It's crazy man, getting together with some hardcore players on a modded Operation Flashpoint Multiplayer session. You're chilling with 4 dudes hanging out of a huey mowing down Vietcong with your M60 while having sixties music playing. The most fun I've ever had was in Operation Flashpoint hands down. Where else could you fight in the bush of Africa(Rhodesian wars) and then be taking over a hijacked boat on a Maritime Navy Seal mission a few hours later.
Even the ArmA community isn't the same. Or maybe it's just because I'm getting older and losing attachment to these games that require hours and hours of your time(which I wish I could give honestly).

That sounds awesome, when i was younger i used to recreate the scene from apocalypse now in any game with a helicopter, play some ride of the valkyries and mow down anyone who got in my way. haha
i was an idiot but it was fun, never been much of a multiplayer guy though.

Oh man how times have changed, this is the last game, not the current one but damn, just look at that 2001 game footage and compare it to this. Still the same guys on the modding team too!

Those are both freaking awesome. I would of loved that back then.
I dunno about the graphics, i kinda like flashpoints simplistic charm... kind of. haha
About the colonials group, it will definitely take longer then one day to be promoted but I'm sure it won't take you long, you've already made some great posts and i was shy as hell when i first joined and it did'nt take me very long. Just enjoy the community for now as its what this place is about, the mods will come a short time later.
