This topic is for discussing the Screenshot contest made by @TheHulksCousin on the Anniversary of New VGU Network!
________Outlines___________________________________ it's time for another Screenshot Contest!
This time, you can post a screenshot from ANY GAME! GO BANANAS!
The theme for the contest is EXPLOSIONS!!!!
Go strait Michael Bay on this! (For those of you that don't know, Michael Bay is an American director that is famous for mediocre writing and SUPER big explosions.)
Here's the (Official) list of rules for the screenshot contest:
Spoiler:
1. One submission per user. If you post more than one screenshot you will be asked to remove your extra submissions and may gain negative rep.
2. Submissions must be related to explosions or have an explosion in the screenshot, whether it is in the background or is the main focus.
3. Submissions must be captured by the person submitting the screenshot. Don't post someone else's screenshot and expect to win. Violation of this rule will have their submission deleted and may recieve negative rep.
4. Submissions can be from any video game, of any genre, and of any graphical style, so long as an explosion is present.
5. Mods are allowed.
6. Graphical changes to the screenshot made in post are not allowed, such as using photoshop or Adobe after effects
7. DO NOT post comments about other users posts here. This is where contest entries are posted. If you want to tell someone you like their screenshot, send them a PM.
the submission period is from today until March 9th. That's two weeks people.
Voting will then follow for another week, and may be extended if voting turnout is low.
Voting will be decided via a user poll. Let the people decide!
Rewards:
The user with the top image will be immediately promoted to Colonial if they are not already.
the top 5 images will be added to the rotation at the site gallery, and also added to the VGU facebook page.
(More awards may come once I've confirmed them.)
Now we're ready! Submit, and have a happy contest!
Addendum 1: Mods are allowed. Visual edits such as using photoshop or similar programs are not allowed. Thanks Drag for bringing this up.
Addendum 2: As long as theirs an explosion and its from any video game, cutscenes will (usually) always b allowed.
This isn't a submission! I'm not that great at capturing screenshots. Its an offer to help others with theirs ^^ If someone has an idea for an explosion they'd like to use (fo3/fnv), I can whip one up for ya to use in your screenshot.

I just wanted to say something. Isn't this kinda unfair? That top winner will be made Colonial if not already? Maybe you should promote the winner to another high level rank if he's not a colonial and at the same time promote the best established/survivor/initiate to Colonial.

Please specify which game your screenshot is from. Also, all non-submission posts here may be moved to a discussion thread later in the day. But then again, they may not.
Also, members who were ranked below Established can now post replies in this section. It was an oversight on my part, in the permissions of the subforum. My bad.
What i meant was if one of the top five winners were Established/Survivor, he should be promoted to Colonial and the main winner should be considered for a promotion to some other post if possible. Because that way, its kinda fair. Already promoted members have experience in good screenshots, enb mods and stuff. Not saying they shouldn't participate but I'm just asking you to take into consideration to promote a non-Colonial if he appears in the top 5.

@sirvm - although I appreciate your suggestion, I doubt very much that it will be approved by the promoting council. Off the top of my head, I can give you a few reasons why:
First of all, getting auto-promoted this way is already quite a fair deal. It's the only procedural exception from the promotional system that doesn't require the council's majority of votes, and I've had some resistance when I proposed it, because it seemed unfair to people who didn't have an eye for screenshots or a good computer for enhanced or demanding games to take them from.
Ultimately, this kind of a promotion is an extra-ordinary exception, and as such it should only be granted for extraordinary achievements, and it should also remain a rare exception. Having a possible group of 3 out of the total 5 winners getting auto-promoted, because they weren't Colonial or Veteran at the time the contest ends, takes away from the significance and value of that reward, and takes away from the promotional system which is based mostly on weighed and earned trust from the council members (which also includes Paladins btw)
So far we've already had @macintroll and @MrMeowMeow win their promotions in this manner (by being Number 1 in a contest), so it's not as "unfair" or unlikely as you'd think, and it's my appreciation that only the best should join their roster in that sense.
Also, auto-promoting someone who hasn't posted enough to be promoted the normal way, leaves us at a greater risk of him or her leeching and lurking afterwards. We consider that people are less likely to skulk about if they're Number 1 champions of a contest, than if they were in 4th or 5th place. Additionally, while sometimes people could consider that a screenshot should not have deserved as many votes as it gets, it's harder to claim that for the #1 winning screenshots than it is for 4th or 5th one down the line.
Plus, for the eventual already promoted winner, the higher ranks already existing are not compatible with this sort of achievement, while creating a new one just for #1 champions would be cumbersome, due to its relatively small population (we don't have contests as often as you'd think) and to choose which groups it overrides, as in - which group color it shows over, or in other words what is more important to display your username as - if you're already Veteran, Paragon, Paladin, Purple Hearts, etc.; then there's the necessity of picking a new distinctive color we haven't used yet and going through all the permission settings for all of subforums. Not saying it's impossibly but it's difficult and currently unnecessary. And we'd have nothing more to offer to these new ranks as "perks", so to speak, that a Colonial rank wouldn't already grant them.

Haha I understand your concerns @DVAted, but its doesn't have to be all top 5 non promoted members. Just the best non promoted in the top 5 and also matches the basic promotion criteria!

@ABakedPotato1234 I know it's obvious but you still have to specify the game you took your screenshot from and make sure you're respecting the theme also you can submit screenshots from ANY video game why would you choose Fallout, whose fire and particle effects are severely lacking and must be heavily modded in order to get a pleasing semi-realistic appearance? But yeah... that's your choice, I guess don't mind me

I've added another reward to the pot The #1 winning screenshot will be adapted into a banner 900x200 resolution with VGU Network and #1 text on it It will be introduced into the site's rotation of top banners.

also, I still notice most submissions are from Fallout NV very disconcerting, since Fallout screenshots have their own contests, and have had the most contests so far... oh well
