| Or the grenade used by Colonel Autumn. The legion-opposing courier would have been beaten, easily. Those weapons are almost unstoppable! They penetrate power armor and can one shot a maxed-out character.
Yeah, yeah, I know. We're supposed to look the other way and pretend we didn't notice, for the good of the plot.
But I still don't like it. The DLCs for Fallout 3 and New Vegas repeatedly used scripted weapons and traps that simply wouldn't have existed in the game, except that they were necessary for the story. Something is up, I think, when this story-telling "technique" is used over and over for the DLCs... the scripted trap/one-shotter.
Which means that I wish they'd written a different story. Writers have a lot of power, because, well, they're the writers! There's got to be other ways to tell a story without falling back on scripted weapons/traps.
So I like to brainstorm, if I'd been in charge of the development of the dlcs, which ones would I have changed to try to avoid this thing I hate?

| @ Sirdanest They biggest thing I feel that developers should avoid, is creating scenarios or events where the player is unable to control or decide their fate. If the player is tied up, let them rip the ropes off. If the player is surrounded, let them attempt to fight their enemies off. Scripted events are horrible when they are always forced into the same ending. But that's not to say scripted events are bad. I like it best when scripted events are dynamic, and unfold before the player's eyes. If the player has the opportunity to intervene, or interact with the scene, allow them to do so. Makes things more interesting this way. I do agree with you Sirdanest. Dead Money is notoriously bad for having a metric frickton of script events and hazards. I haven't played it yet, but I did watch Gopher on YouTube play through it with his Jack Character. The red mist, the speakers and the bomb collar, not to mention the various time the player gets knocked out by the gas the Serria Madre produces in order to stun victims. Ultimately, player freedom and choice is the way to go. It'll give the best experience possible, and who knows, you might even make some memories along the way. |

| I liked dead money. Whereas I will agree that Dead Money had some scripted events they weren't so horrible that they broke the flow of the game. The player only gets knocked out twice during the run (If I remember correctly). Yes the gas and the collar were both annoying but I still rate dead money higher than any of the fallout 4 dlcs. I will agree that scripted sequences can be annoying but if done well they can be fun and add to the story. The problem is doing it well. |

| I mentioned the metal sticks from the beginning of the pitt on purpose, I think they were the hardest to believe, the most immersion breaking. I'm not a huge fan of scripted knockouts, but I see how they're useful for the story. But the pitt just pushed it too far. Aliens and weird gas and all that... I guess they could do that? But metal sticks wielded by what amounts to a raider? Nah, there had to be a better way to write the Pitt than that. Had to be. |

| @Sirdanest i'd have liked to get out of vault 87 on my own terms and not be knocked out, maybe travel to raven rock diplomatically by request of president edan EDIT: like if he contacted you through the Radio or sent a vertibird of non hostile scientists to pick you up _________________ Banner and Avatar made by Star, AKA: Wergon - '' Star's Workshop'' “If you can't blow them away with your brilliance, Baffle them with your bullshit.” |

| Yeah,I really think there are usually other ways to tell stories than with knock-outs that almost certainly wouldn't otherwise exist in the game. I mean, aliens are sort of famous for abductions, but power-armor-piercing-one-shotting-crude-metal sticks and super-grenades that only exist with the scripts tell them to... I'm never really going to like that. The Raven Rock thing and the Pitt, I am just so sure it could have been done otherwise without the heavy-handed scripting. |

| the pitt could have been better done with a large wave of enemies
