There are a lot of fairly simple swf games on the internet, with a retro-esque feel or otherwise simple enough that they'd look good alongside the pipboy games. I've heard that pipboy games are based on swf. So if one of the authors of these swf games were so inclined, how hard would it be for them to stick one of their games into a fallout 4 holotape mod? Is it some kind of monumental job? The nexus is practically littered with go-nowhere threads along the lines of "custom pipboy games?" As if no one knows the answers to these questions, or they aren't talking -- but many people are asking. It still shocks me that we've seen so little on this front. Journal of the sole survivor and pong, I believe. Even if it is a big job.... well... modders surprise and delight me every year with just how big of a job they take on. I and my character's arcade eternally hold out hope.

And just like that I'm dreaming of porting over Newgrounds games from my youth into Fallout haha. That would be a sight to see.

I was curious at release whether that sort of thing would be possible too, but I guess given how long it's been with no-go threads like you say, it must be difficult to impossible to implement using the tools we have. Sad really.

It also occurs to me: There's a number of games that have "waiting periods" for an action to be completed or something like that. Well, I usually hate that. But running on a pipboy while I'm adventuring, might not be so bad anymore. I used to have dreams of a large arcade, rather than just the five or so that we have now. I find the re-imagining of games from my childhood to be very charming, like how Xeta Invaders is Space Invaders. In my youth Grognak and the Ruby Ruins would be the sort of game up on the shelf at Toys r Us (but it would have had more color of course.) That one really captured the feel of games of the time. Normally I think it's charming that my pipboy has the green screen of many apple computers of the past, but with Grognak I made an exception and I wish it had the colors of the commodore 64 era. In Fallout 2, the pipboy had upgrades -- color games might have been an interesting, rare upgrade.

@ Sirdanest (Original Post) Flash is a very interesting language to pick for designing pip-boy games with. I find it ironic because flash games are often reminiscent of games from the 32-bit era and earlier, which is the perfect programming language for a mobile device. In the real world, the pip-boy would be considered a mobile device on top of that. Java would be an equally good language for the pip-boy, because old cell phone games where all coded in java. I can see how this would spark a massive interest in custom game creation for the pip-boy. But I don't think Bethesda ever intended for mod authors to ever create custom pip-boy games. But that would be more than just a novelty, it would be a grand frontier for content creation. While it may not be something currently in the realm of possibility, when you've got project like Daggerfall Unity and OpenMW rebuilding and reverse engineering Bethesda games from the ground up, It would only be a matter of time before a talented hacker or group of hackers would crack things open and make their own custom game for the pip-boy.

I suspect that if one could design genuine flash games, there would be a more profitable use for that skill than limiting them to a fallout 4 pipboy mod. I mean, why not release it as a pc game on a wider platform than the pipboy? There certainly are numerous flash games out there that are sort of retro, the authors just chose to not limit themselves to a fallout 4 mod, I guess.
