Eh, it's hard. On one side, competition is good. On the other hand, it's annoying enough that my desktop is already cluttered with shit without adding new individual launchers to run games. There's already Steam and Origin, and within them, Ubisoft have their own sub launcher for all their games, and Bethesda are already working on launching their new games through Bethesda.net so yeah, that's gonna be REAL fucking convenient.
As far as Epic's supposed data snooping goes, meh. Who ever reads disclaimers? Epic have done somewhat shady shit before when it comes to customer data and whether or not they want to be adding to mailing lists and the like. But they're hardly the only company to do that. They're simply taking advantage of a system built to let them abuse that. The real shit that will get them into deep water is when they start messing with Steam's data protection system:

But I really have to say, none of this is a good thing. The more companies fight over stuff like this, the more it's going to draw the attention of lawmakers, and that isn't a good thing for anyone, consumers most of all. The Govt. would love (and has already in some places) to get their grubby little fingers on some of that massive gaming revenue. They did it with gambling when that was at its apex. It'll happen with Video Games, especially now that they're becoming seen as a legitimate business by the mainstream and not just a hobby or passtime. The more this drags on, the more attention will be drawn by these people. Again, not a good thing at all.
