Anyone ever thought about Fallout's 1/2 being remastered/modernized to play similarly to the new Fallout games? I'd be really into it cause From what I've heard, they have great story and characters, but I could never get into them due to the isometric turn based gameplay. I'm pretty sure it would get a whole bunch of reception from Fallout fans,as a fan project or an official release.

I would rather a re-imagining because the first and the 2nd Fallouts had to be isometric because it is a turn-based rpg. If they are going to remaster it, it has to be like a modern isometric game like XCOM2.
A 1st/3rd person Fallout could still work if they do something similar to the game mechanics of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified where it is a real time tactical rpg where you pause and set your moves.
I also recall that there was a project to recreate the original Fallouts(can't remember if it was Fallout 1 or 2) using FNV by a russian team(?) so you could search that if you are interested but it has been a long time.

I agree with @ahyuser001 if there were to be a remaster i would like it to retain the isometric style. I adore the original fallouts they got me hooked on the series when I was a kid.

I would love for them to remake Fallout 1 and 2 in the updated Fallout 3 and New Vegas styles. I really think Bethesda should really consider doing them. They do, did have modders working on doing them in a mod. Some have been abandoned, but if the ones that have not been abandoned are completed I would definitely play them. But a official version would be most welcome.

I would love to see a remaster. If it ever came out, I would probably try it out. Never played F01/F02, that sounds exciting!

It's not a "remaster", it's a massive remake. The game needs to be remade from the ground up. They run on completely different engines and are completely different games.
And yes, while I would appreciate a remake of Fallout 1 and 2 since I was never able to get into them as much as I would have had I played the games in chronological order, I do think that it would encourage a major backlash pushed by those who want the games to stay how they are, since the Fallout community is full of obnoxious crybabies who melt down into tears at the slightest action by Bethesda.

I'm really alright with a remake of it similar to what FF7 is experiencing right now. It's not a bad idea honestly, but I wonder if a significant amount of people would want to back on the idea considering the position Fallout is in. After all, these guys need to earn something from it.

No point Bethesda remastering FO 1/2. They will mess it up anyway.

I'd really dig a Sonic Mania style remake myself. Something that stays true to the originals but with updated high definition graphics, minor bug fixes and gameplay improvements, and added content. Like the Vipers! We hear about them but we never see them in Fallout! I'd love stuff like that!
Personally, I don't see the first-person gameplay of the new games as an improvement. I think Fallout: New Vegas managed to capture lightning in a bottle by mixing role-playing and first-person gunplay together really well (and even then, it requires a lot of mods to reach its full potential) so while the original Fallout as a first-person game could be interesting and different, I'm not sure that it could be better. There's a reason why we're still talking about Fallout twenty-two years after its release.
What's great about isometric storytelling is that it lights a fire in your imagination. All you're seeing is a bunch of tiny pixels running around shooting at each other turn-based, yet somehow it feels so dramatic and intense. There's a lot to be said for Mark Morgan's amazing ambient score but the games's themselves have an eeriness and emptiness that fire the imagination. If they ever did do a first-person Fallout, it'd have to be so crazily detailed to be satisfying, otherwise it just wouldn't match the images I've created of various locations in my head.
Basically, I'm not against the idea, but I'd prefer a Sonic Mania-style remaster.

I get a little confused with the remastered concept. It's only different with up to date graphics or game play is changed as well? If I'm not mistaken, the recent Resident Evil 2 was remastered and I'm told it's totally different, almost like a new game.
I never played Fallout 1 or 2. Started with New Vegas and then went to 3. I love the Fallout world, so if it's done to feel like a modern game, I'm all for it. I liked FO3, NV and FO4 game play and stories. Nothing wrong with a bit more.

I suppose the term Remastered is a bit confusing, especially since it seems as if different companies have different ideas of what constitutes a "Remaster". I suppose remake, adaptation,or reboot would've been better terms for what I meant. And I can understand the people saying that the first two games should remain untouched outside of a version with the same isometric gameplay but better graphics, especially with Bethesda's reputation as of late. Guess the best I can hope for is for a fan project to successfully remake the first two games on either the Gamebryo/Creation engine.

If you look at Resident Evil 2, it doesn't look like the original game however the core gameplay mechanics is still there such as inventory management, some survival aspects and puzzle solving. My understanding of a remaster is you update the graphics, its compatibility with the tech and maybe even aspects of the story but still retain the core gameplay mechanics.
A rework/re-imagining is when you overhaul the core gameplay mechanics of an already existing game. In this case if we make a Fallout 1/2 using the gamebryo engine, it would take away the core gameplay mechanics of those 2 games which is an isometric turn based rpg game and make it a first person shooter rpg like Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4.

I would be super interested if they did. Honestly, the age of the games keeps me from playing them and a remaster would be enough to play them.

For those who are interested, seems as if some people are working on remaking FO2 on the FO4 Creation Engine. https://wccftech.com/fallout-4-fallout-2-remaster-mod-arroyo/

I'm frankly surprised that Bethesda doesn't see any money in remaking the older two games.

@Sirdanest This probably explains why Todd Howard won't do remasters especially with games that he created.

I could be interested in either a remaster with the old gameplay (only more up to date with modern conventions), or an entire re-imagining with the first two games adopting the gameplay of the newer entries...as long as it's more F:NV than Fallout 4/76.
