| When the forum rules say there's no "sharing" of mods without the consent of the mod author, what exactly is meant by that? More specifically, what ARE we allowed to post? Like if people ask if there is a mod for a certain thing, are members allowed to respond by posting a link to that mod? Would that count as sharing? Or do you guys mean like, hosting a download to the mod itself, esp and all?
It sounds like a stupid question or maybe I missed something in the rules, but anyways, thanks for your time guys.

| What that means is that you can not post any mods that are not your own work on this site. You can not use any models in your mods that are not yours either unless you have permission from the original author of said models. When someone asks for a certain mod or if a certain mod exists, you can point them in the right direction with a link to the Nexus or any other site as long as you are not uploading the actual mod download to the VGU site. For example, taking the mod New Vegas Bounties from the New Vegas Nexus and then uploading the file here for download and stating it is your own work or stating it is Someguy2000's but did not obtain permission for it to be posted here is against the policies of VGU. I hope this post helped, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask! |

Nice stated, but also no sharing means you do not download mods from here and post else were, Mods on VGU are for VGU, not for nexus or anywhere else. _________________ I came here to make house mods and chew bubble gum... And I'm all out of bubble gum. |

| Exactly what it says. Do NOT share. You download it, and you keep it to yourself. You don't upload it elsewhere, and don't you give it to anyone. And you don't go PM'ing people, asking for such mods either. That's against the rules, too, and will get you banned.
Excerpt from the rules and guidelines of the site by DVAted:
"DO NOT share the mods you find here without author's permission. DO NOT share any mods you find anywhere without author's permission. If you want to suggest a mod, use the original release page, not a direct link to the mod itself. DO NOT share pages from the restricted area in public topics or chatbox."
Let's now take two particular lines of text to talk about specifically.
"DO NOT share/upload/re-repload the mods you find here/anywhere without author's permission."
I edited this one to make a point. If an author says he/she doesn't want certain things done with his/her mod, don't do those things with it. I.E.: Uploading/re-uploading, sharing, modifying, etc.
"DO NOT share pages from the restricted area in public topics or chatbox."
Do NOT share links to or from forum topics that you need certain privileges as a member to access. Nothing more to be said about this. Don't even ask.
In regards to that, Don't come to this site expecting it to be like the Nexus. Don't go to any other mod sites and expect them to be like Nexus, where everything is up for grabs. Don't come here with an attitude, thinking we're all hoarding our mods here, and that we're dicks for doing it(even if we were, that'd be our right. WE put out our mods. That should be our right, and how we do it should be our right.) I say this because I got a PM from a user who didn't like me telling him what he was doing wrong on the forum, and how he didn't like the way we host our mods here. And called us "mod hoarders". |

| Regrettably this is an issue which will never go away no matter what lengths this forum (or any others) goes to.
Dragbody, Donta and recently myself (and undoubtedly others) have found mods we have released, uploaded to other websites without our permission, and when those mods were released here and only here... its not hard to discern that it's people here that 'leak' them.
It greatly hurts my incentive to release more of my work when the single thing I ask of people - that my work not be uploaded elsewhere in any fashion - is ignored.
So it screws everyone over to do this. You screw over the people making the mods, and you screw over the people who enjoy the mods because the people making the mods suddenly think twice about releasing stuff.
Someone recently expressed to me that mentality wasn't fair to the people who do respect mod authors... which may be true, but that's how life works. The 'many' have paid for the actions of the 'few' since the beginning of civilization.
If a classroom of 30 kids all get to chew gum, only to have one little prick toss his gum in some kid's hair... guess what the teacher is going to say? No more gum in class, kids. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin things for everybody.

| Wow, the big guns lol. But really guys I understand. I understand people want the mods and everything and that's cool, I'd like to try them as much as anyone, but more important is the fact that this is community that is actually true to themselves and to others. The individuals here are respectful and straight forward, which is a huge relief when compared to the bombastic sarcasm that rages across the Nexus forums. I fully understand and respect the fact that mod authors don't want their mods shared without their knowledge. The reason I really asked the question was to make sure I wouldn't get in trouble if someone asked for a particular mod and I linked them to the Nexus. But I appreciate the in depth explanation. | If you have made the mod then you can upload it no problem but you cannot upload a mod that somebody else has made without having written proof that they have said you can upload it. I think. _________________
