Hi everyone, today i'm gonna talk about one of my all time personal favorite movies: Hobo with a Shotgun. This movie is fucking awesome, seriously, you should go watch it before reading my review. I promise you won't regret.
My first impression after watching the movie trailer was "Hmmm, looks like another Grindhouse shitty movie, a Machete (shitty movie as well) wannabe.", but i decided to give it a try cause the name was very attractive to me (hobo with a shotgun, you know...). It turn out to the ultimate true genuine Grindhouse movie, with a great quality level if we compare it with other movies of this genre, and most important, beating the shit out of Machete (god i hate that movie so much).
Hobo With a Shotgun is about the life of a bum who travels by train to whenever the train goes xd. The bum then arrives to a city runed by a mafia dude call Drake who does everything he wants when he wants, and also turned the city into his personal playground. Mr.Bum tries not to get involved with all the violence an pervertion of that place, but since he is so kind he gets in trouble by facing one of Logan's sons while trying to help a prostitute, nearly getting killed for it. After that, he thinks that the city is just not big enough for him and Drake the mafia dude and his family of assholes, so he gets a shotgun and starts doing some Charles Bronson shit.
Jason Eisener is fucking awesome! I would like to thank him personally for making this movie full of ridicoulous violence, dark humor and amazing gore. My perfect combination. You can rarely find such a perfectly well made movie this days. That first movie sequence with the 70s music and all of those saturated colors was so amazing, it was telling me "You Torsorapgirl, You must watch this movie! I has been made specially for you". I mean, if Rutger Hauer blinks me an eye i'll totally wet myself
. Everything he does is great and the fact he plays the anti heroe role in this one makes it even greater, he makes Danny Trejo and his slumber party of a movie look like Doki the dog.
The plot is 0 original, but who the fuck cares? We're here to enjoy 1 hour an 30 minutes of free quality violence, gore, gallons and more gallons of blood, splatter insides and everything relate to all of that awesome stuff. And in order for that to happend, high quality special effects are needed... and guess what? Hobo with a shotgun have them to. The special effects in this movie are so delicious that i'll probably eat them xd, but not only that, the music is also great. Oh my god, the music in hobo has to be one of the most apotheosic i've ever heard in my whole life, probably because i enjoy synthwave music a lot.
Hobo with a Shotgun is the dreamed movie for those who love excessively violnce, gore and dark humor like me, and also and alternative for that stupid movie known as "Machete" (yeah, i just can't held myself
).
Like i mention before, the story is 0 original but is very immersive thanks to the charisma every single character shows. We can go from a pedophile Santa Claus to a group of warriors in motorcycle with a Mad Max style. A very thrilling movie from the begining to the end, disproportionately violent and irreverent, full of dark humor, great soundtrack and some scenes i'll never forget, like the one with the bounty hunters in the hospital or the prostitute getting ready for battle like Ash in Evil Dead... And of course, Rutger Hauer doing what i think was the best performance of his entire career. Hobo with a Shotgun is definitely a cult movie imo.
