Hi everyone, i'ts 4:36 in the morning in where i live and i just finished watching Alice, Sweet Alice for the 1000th time, so i'm on review mode now. This time i decided to talk about this year's Leatherface. Why not review the movie i just watched? I have no idea lol.
Leatherface was my most anticipated movie for this year (i hate Chucky btw). The Texas Chainsaw massacre is one of my all time favorite slasher films and Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo are reference to me as well because i've enjoyed all of there work. I'll start with the most important thing: For me Leatherface is by far the worst movie of 2017, and it's something that really pisses me of. My expectetions for it where astronomic, but it ended up being super dissapointing like if it was made by two lazy college wannabe movie directors.
Leatherface tries to show us the childhood (and barely adolescence) of Jeddediah. After being mistreated by his family because he doesn't have that brutall killer instinct that the rest isn't afraid of showing, is used by them as bait for making young guys and girls get off the vehicle in wich they are tongue kissing and stuff so they can become new victims (2017 SLASHER FILM AND PEOPLE STILL DOESN'T LEARN THAT THEY JUST CAN'T GET OF THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!)
After attacking the sherrif's daughter (because if the Sawyers are involved is strictly necessary that sherrif's are involved as well in order to make them look as the good guys until proven otherwise) Jeddediah is sent to a reformatory. 10 years later we found him again, but we just don't have a clue of who he might be because he's name has been changed and they are 3 characters he can be. So everything goes to shit when the reformatory is set on fire and 5 fugitives go on the loose. Among those 5 fugitives are the the 3 potential Jeddediah's, a really fucked up serial killers girl and a nurse.
These 5 are the classic slasher movie cliche characters who are meant to make us feel some empathy. While the sherrif is chasing them, we get to know a little of there presonalities, like The classic virgin girl who has written "IM THE FINAL GIRL" all over his face, this time played by the nurse, who's job at the reformatory is very surrealistic (i never understood what the hell a pretty and young nurse was doing in a reformatory full of testosterone apes) Then we have Clarice, a sexual violent gurl that doesn't give a shit about anything except for her love/crazyfuckeduplove for Ike. With Ike, she takes the other 3 as hostages. Then their is Bud and Jackson (classic reformatory best friends 4 evah), their mission is to protect nurse Lizzy of the fucked up couple while they escape the police (they took an unnecesary freakin long time chasing them, unnecesary long as the movie).
The worst thing about the movie is that there is really no reason or excuse for Leatherface ending being who he is besides that his mom told him to. I thought to myself "Wtf i am watching? Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Friday The 13th?", wich is really weird because the theme of the movie is to explain everyone the origins of Leatherface and why he acts (or kills) like he does. I mean, even the Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning who was born ugly af and had that terryfing something maked more sense than this one. In this movie, Leatherface "uglyness" comes by a shot to the face, leaving half of his face looking like Harvey Dent's one
.
Shitty film doesn't even explain why he stopped talking because the film lacks from a lot of information about Leatherface personalitie and the influence his mother had on him. We just have to think that Leatherface is the killing machine he is becuase of what his family and the reformatory made of him.
Leatherface is an awful movie and has nothing to do with the Sawyer universe and is only worth wathching for making your Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie marathon 1 hour and 30 minutes longer. I rather keep thinking that my ideal Leatherface is that brutalistic-retarded beast who barely distinguish good from evil and that just simply kills, kills and kills because he doesn't have the ability to think.
OVERALL: 3/10 And this would be my official Texas Chainsaw Massacre rank:

4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
5. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3
6. Leatherface
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D
8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
