I really like aliens, i think they're a good addition to the games in terms of lore, for their background and the "we're not alone" idea, but also in terms of design, specially with their "big head green little man-like style", as aliens were depicted back in the 50's.

PS:"@GoofyGoo6er"Now that you mention the Fatman... Wow the fatman XD XD. That I really hate. Ah, the day i found asking Preston to carry it was a bad idea...

I was really disappointed with the introduction of Mothership Zeta, as Aliens in Fallout 3 and it suddenly becoming canon didn't sit well with me. I only played Zeta once because of how strongly I dislike Aliens in Fallout 3. In honesty, I felt like it was something that should've just stayed an easter egg.

I like the idea of aliens in fallout, but not how they implemented them in fallout 3, i'd prefer they were a mystery to sometimes stumble upon small pieces of like a crashed ship, a strange gun, a dead alien/living alien, and the likes of that, save the mothership idea for an insane wild wasteland quest/moment lol

The aliens are pretty fun and they never break the lore for me. they could have added more dialogue to mothership zeta like the mzc mod.

@suredude2 they're actually mutants created with F.E.V just like supermutants, don't have a clue what species they were before the F.E.V though, and will this mod be adding more classic fallout mutants? i miss floaters and don't want to have to install the monster mod just for a handful of classic enemies

Aliens would be fine if they were done in a goofy Old World Blues-esque way. Bethesda kinda does that with the Zetans being designed after the old 1950s Roswell alien but never does anything with it. They might continue it in a future DLC (lol were talking so many years folks) with them invading or something. With Nuka World and Fallout 4 in general, they might do the goofy fun take on them, which would honestly be the only way to do it, if at all.

I like the idea of them being an Easter egg and just a goofy thing that you can find while wondering around the wastes, but the mothership DLC did take it a bit far, the weapons I liked but I’m not a fan of them being a part of the official lore. It just doesn’t work in my opinion. Having wild wasteland stuff to do with them I’m happy with and if they had something like a random shack and the owner of that shack was an extra-terrestrial believer then that would be cool, having hints to them would be pretty neat also but an actual DLC was a bit much in my opinion.
That said I do enjoy the aliens, just not lore wise.

I've rarely seen a post with which I agree more, OP - IMO you are spot on; I think the problem with FO4 (which in hindsight we can see really began with 3) is that Bethesda either truly doesn't "get" what makes Fallout Fallout, or they don't want to.

Believe me, I get why people welcome an additional creature type in a game which suffers from an appalling lack of enemy variety. I feel the same. But the execution, as the OP and PresWalru5 state, detracts from the Fallout lore IMO.

I don't often do this, but there is a great video by YouTuber hbomberguy called "Fallout 3 Is Garbage, And Here's Why" that provides some pretty decent critical analysis (and despite the title, it's not an outright rip on FO3 but more of a broad survey of the ways in which Bethesda fundamentally fails to comprehend the essence of the franchise). I, at least, found it an interesting watch.

Personally, instead of a contrived and cringe-inducing attempt at camp I'd rather them license the Aliens from 20th Century Fox and do something with that as a frivolous DLC instead; Deathclalien hybrids would at least be massively fun to get merc'd by, and every bit as "lore-friendly" as the MZ type...
