I've always used guns simply because they're very common and my desire to stick to a hardcore/ gunslinger survivalist build but recently decided to try out energy weapons and man I've really been missing out (The gauss rifle is so op)

So what type of weapons do you guys use and why?

Ballistics always, there's something clean and professional feeling about shell casings and suppressors, but thanks to the animation project I've also been using hand to hand lately, It suits my character (who is based off of HUNK) to be using hand to hand (HUNK is the master of neck snapping after all).

Of course that's fallout nv, in fallout 4 I do like laser weapons considerably more because of the customization, and combat revamps

I use a mixture of both ballistic and energy and a bit of melee (just for Chance's Knife). I believe its a really interesting way to play NV with ballistic and energy weapons because you pretty much have the upper hand already. I use ballistic weapons for sniping enemies one by one (Christine COS ftw) and energy weapons for AOE (really really handy for the final battle).

Melee is a bit problematic. I like it, but all my characters are 'nerds', and have almost no RES... My actual char have a knife (the pickman's one), but it is only for small creatures and insects, i already died more than one time trying to melee ferals...

Hand to hand i never tried, and i think i might never will. I don't like it and do not create strong characters haha

Actually melee can be over powerful with the right perks and weapons. Being able to take down a deathclaw one on one does seem cool.

I usually go for energy weapons, specifically lasers, because you can use ballistic weapons in almost every other game ever made. Energy weapons also make the setting feel more futuristic.

Melee & unarmed best work with specific builds, so that somewhat limits their use, but punching deathclaws in the face never gets old.

You can achieve this amount of power to easily anyway in this game .... needs spicy rebalance mods to make it a challenge at all .

Ballistic. Revolvers and Lever Action weapons to be specific, because apparently I'm a cowboy at heart.

Rapid-fire Ballistic weapons. There's Nothing like a good SMG or Assault Rifle with a ton of ammo to burn. 

Depends what type of ammo I encounter the most on each play through or what I am fighting the most. Lasers are pretty great sniping weapons, while I find ballistics are generally better at medium to semi close range, and HtH/CQC is generally used in buildings, sewers, or caves. Really depends on the situation.

But plasma....its pretty useless IMO, sure it hits harder than lasers but its a moot point when only about half of the shots are guaranteed hits, and factoring in the smaller magazine makes it deal less overall damage than laser weapons.
