The day the Mods stopped flowing Empty
PostSubject: The day the Mods stopped flowing   The day the Mods stopped flowing EmptyWed Sep 21, 2016 3:29 pm

Hey Fellas the day has come, all of the DLC packs have been released and Fallout 4 wanders into the video game wasteland behind some great predecessors. I was all over this game, I was grabbin a selfish 4 hour block of playtime almost everyday. I spent most of my browsing time at work on modsites looking at mods {Filter:All}, downloading mods to an external drive to take home and install. Basically obsessed with the game (I've done this before with all the Beth games since Oblivion)

But now sometimes the Nexus page is the same for days, I refresh in disbelief. I check my usual few sites and then fire up Chrome for easy tranlsations for foreign Fallout 4 sites (junkie). I think between my PS4 and my PC (yes I have a copy for both and two season passes thank you very much) I probably completed about 15 playthroughs, I just don't think I can do another one without dropping the controller and walking away.

But with a thousand hours into this game and uncounted more in search and mod shuffling, patching fixing tattooing etc) WTF do I do with myself now? Anyone else feel this way? Is my OCD really this bad

I can relate to what you're saying...I have wiped my FO4 out and reinstalled and am letting it sit as the mods are tweaked and combined as well as allow for refinement for the abilities of F4SE.

I don't know of other sites besides the nexus and this one...so I can't say I've done near as much searching as you, but i too spent at least as much time finding/downloading/troubleshooting mod compatibility as I did actually playing the game.

I think many people are waiting for the Creation Kit to come out of Beta, as it is pretty unstable for those who want to do the complexe things. Take for instance, there was an Alternate start mod that was killed off becuase the creation Kit fucked the entire mod up for the author, and teh author gave up.

I've notice the same thing, don't know if people are losing interest or as @"brandonpotter0" wrote people are waiting for the beta phase to end.But I hope modding does pick back up as that's one of the main reasons I'm playing the fallout games.

Yeah I noticed the interest in modding isn't as high as in Skyrim or previous Beth games. Maybe when F4SE has more functions and CK comes out of beta, we'll see more. Hopefully.

Edit:
I really wanna see a good companion mod. I'm just glad that Llama (Willow mod from FNV's author) is working on a companion mod named Heather. It gives me hope.

Also I hope the guy from reddit who showcased the fully voiced spouse companion mod is still working on it. He made use of the voice files and edit them and made it interactive like vanilla companions. But he's gone silent.

Yeah when F4SE becomes out we'll probably start seeing some of the cool mods come out (not that there aren't already) like enhanced camera, MCM, and some other mods that require a more developed version of F4SE.

Yeah I agree with you. Ive never seen mods die so quickly for a beth game...there are so many issues and it is much harder for people to stay active in quest and companion mods are much much harder to do with the voiced protag. F4SE isnt fully developed so we wont be seeing any true overhauls for awhile, Creating new animations that aren't already present is hell on earth with the current resources, and The G.E.C.K isnt out of beta yet. Plus things like race mods are a thing of the past for the most part because of the way CC works.

There are just so much wrong with the the base game and tools it is a dry season for mods. I too have the ps4 and steam release no shame over 300 hours in both now ive done all i can do really I hope it gets better... and soon.

I think once Bethesda have finally gotten the their modding tools fixed and completed and all the other malarkey, it'll be too late. Modders would've moved on by then.

I just was greeted with a small update again today from Bethesda. So they still are doing some small work on issues they have. Perhaps when they are done and the CK is fixed up there will be more. It is a very different engine and work being done on it has to be "discovered" or prehaps " reversed engineered" (F4Se) etc. It might take more time to get movement on mods for Fallout 4 but I am pretty sure we well get some more. That is if Skyrim 64 don't kill it when it comes out... Smile

PostSubject: Re: The day the Mods stopped flowing   The day the Mods stopped flowing EmptyThu Sep 22, 2016 12:38 am

Whoa!
No new mods for a few days, what will everyone do!?
Excuse me for saying this, but I think the title of this thread is a little overly dramatic.
There are completely valid reasons behind "lack" of mods at times.
1. A lot of talented modders don't really care for Fallout 4.
2. Mod leaks, and people taking credit for another's hard work turned quite a few away from modding for Fallout 4, or modding in general for the public.
3. Maybe they're taking a break, have real things to do, perhaps even enjoying another game. Crazy right?
4. As stated, waiting for a solid creation kit to come out.
5. Mods take time, so chill.

I'd suggest finding something else to do, or maybe take this time to learn how to mod the game yourself if you feel this is such a big issue.
Excuse my bluntness, but that's how I see it.

The day the Mods stopped flowing Empty
PostSubject: Re: The day the Mods stopped flowing   The day the Mods stopped flowing EmptyThu Sep 22, 2016 1:45 am

@andresgrimm I agree with your points. I think Fallout 4 has some more good years ahead of it, just give it some time. Hell, even Oblvion modding was pretty active at Nexus 1-2 years ago! New mods just kept coming, and that was elready an 8-9 year old game. Also as time passes, mods are becoming better and better. As new games are coming out, they're raising people's expectations, especially about graphics. So what do modders do? They're trying to keep update the latest TES or FO game, to make it look like a more modern game. New textures, better animations, high-quality weapons and armor, and so on. The passage of time is especially good for ported content. Why? Simple. Imagine a Call of Duty game coming out in 2019. What will it bring to us? You've guessed. Very nice looking, VERY high-quality weapons, armor, etc. compared to the current ones. And our dear modders will grab all that stuff, and will port it to Fallout 4. This is what's happening all the time. I still have Oblivion installed, and with mods it looks almost as good as Skyrim, which was released 5 years later. With an ENB installed it even looks waaay better, than vanilla Skyrim. What mods am I using? Mostly the ones which came out in the last few years of Oblivion modding.

I'm not trying to offend anyone here, I'm just saying, it's a two-sided coin. I only suggest, to be a bit more positive. I understand every point you guys highlighted, I'm only asking you to think about my points as well. You don't have to accept it, it's only my opinion, however it's based on experience.

Well...that's it.

Cheers!

I don't think Fallout 4 will have the same quality of mods that Fallout 3 and New Vegas did. A bunch of super talented modders are not interested in Fallout 4. Plus voiced protagonist makes quest mods really hard to do.

I think the theft of mods and poorly porting them to consoles has really hit modding for F04.
IIRC some console mods still inked to the nexus sites and the thief blamed the original mod creator for the mod not working on consoles.

I don't think that the modding will really take off for FO4, especially not with the remastered Skyrim right around the corner. The mod theft, the broken tools and scattering mods over bethesda's site and the nexus aren't helping either. And I can see that some modders just don't wanna deal with the console crowd. Where a loud part just shits over some mod authors and thinks they are entitled to everything.
I think Bethesda hurt their modding scene alot with the decisions they made lately or a while ago, looking at you payed mods.

I really just want to know what MORE users want for free?

If I had the ability to combine mods that wouldnt crash my game...i wouldn't want anything else. Having a limit of 255 REALLY REALLY cramps my style...I'm not looking to completely overhaul the game...I just want to use all of the mods that already exist, because there are so many already

how many weapons do you REALLY need?
how much armor?
how many companion tweaks?
How many settlement mods
how many build objects?

I mean REALLY...the level of expectation for "the next great thing" is laughable...it isn't that FO4 sucks...it's that it isn't FNV...it isn't supposed to be and to expect others to break their back and lose their mind to turn it into something else is so far off the chart of reasonable. Sorry not sorry for the tone...but trust me it's so mild compared to where I was going to go with it...people need to grow up and exercise some gratitude and patience

i have plenty of gratitude...no patience though...I'm not a doctor

It was meant mostly as a jest and as a way to laugh at my own OCD, but we are heading into a dryspell. Also I have been asked to participate in the forum, so I try to drum up some questions we can all participate in. I get obsessed with Bethesda games and it usually last about 8 months and then nothing. But hey be blunt, nothing wrong with that thanks for posting!

I would blame Bethesda on this one since they are the ones who try to claim the mods to their own website. A lot of author upload their mods on bethesda.net and the mods you download from there has to launch in a different way which somehow incompatible with other mod managers unless go through some tweak. If one day the mods truly stop flows, it is due to Bethesda's own greed. Not here try to bash Bethesda, but just speaking the fact that their involvement to mod community was just totally unnecessary.

There's a number of factors I'd be willing to bet on.

The voiced protag makes it unnecessarily difficult for people who like making quest mods or companion mods being that the VO workload is doubled if not tripled as they have to recycle PC voice lines for the player to choose from.

The Bethesda.net controversy with mod theft and mod piracy forcing some of the most talented modders to quit or postpone their work such as DogToothCG (Maker of NCR Ranger Armor) and LordOfWar, who's armor is still being reuploaded with people calling him selfish or other dumb things. "WAOW U NAWT LIEK PPL STEELIN UR WURK UR FUKN SELFISH LOW." Generally bringing the console community into the fold made the modding community way more toxic and encouraged modders to quit due to harassment as well, I'm sure there's still some modder rant videos on youtube.

There's also the fact that people still see New Vegas as a much stronger Fallout title and would rather mod that game instead of Fallout 4.

Lots of really good points I haven't considered. especially the decision of using a voiced protag instead of silent
