its not like other fps like call of duty or battlefield as they have have snap to target aim while fallouts aim is manual except for the V.A.Ts and also has survival feaures as in doing first aim and eating sleeping so its a survival RPG

I think they should focus more as a RPG, Fallout 4 doesn't give you the liberty that Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas did. For me FNV creates the perfect balance for a Fallout game, I personally think it's the best Fallout game when it comes to lore.

I think Bethesda should just retire and give the rights of the fallout series to someone who can make rpgs.
If that was too cynical, what kravisl1 said should clear it up

I agree with tatas, they should retire and sell the rights of the fallout series to someone who can make rpgs, i think if they dont, they'll get so much hate, give them to Obsidian maybe ?

@"OfficerDornanFett" Well obsidian isnt what it used to be, the main players are gone. The problem is how bethesda is doing things, they are doing things with open world and doing whatever you want not role playing, i think bethesda could improve this by letting arkane from dishonored making the missions.
Anyway this video explains why bethesda will never make a proper fallout game.

Only thing is that if someone else is gonna make a fallout game it will probably use a differnt engine what could result in less mod support .

But if we get a really deep RPG with plentiful amount of good, diverse, and interesting content there will be less need for mods

For me Fallout 4 just felt like a mirrored copy paste of Fallout 3. Instead of a son looking for his father the story is about a father looking for his son, your whole story is set from the beginning. Having access to power armor within the first 1-2 hours, ugh. Fallout 4 feels incredibly dumbed down, no shooting grenades in VATS no weapon/armor degradation, where the hell do your weapons go, up your arse? And let's not mention the obviously crude and simple dialogue system, I also believe there are only charisma checks in the game and 90% of them are just for some extra caps, no intelligence checks etc, oh and of course no skills, no karma. A decent game but a terrible Fallout game. Endings are pretty much the same, I never felt like my decisions had an impact. Perhaps I overhyped this game and that's why it's such a disappointment to me.
Options: A) Be nice. B) Be nice, but ask for money. C) Sarcastic D) Charisma check.
Then again, this is just my opinion, but I really hope Obsidian gets to make a Fallout game, a real one, unlike this bland fps we got.

Seeing that all previous Fallout games are still popular until now because of the modding community, Bethesda confidently knew they would still sell even with revisions & exclusions of some popular elements. Fallout 4 may not have the same RPG essence compared to it's previous titles but it is still a good game & even added new features like settlement building, gear customization, slo-mo VATS, etc. As to whether it's suppose to focus more to be either as a FPS shooter or RPG.. Have to say it still has to be both. Yeah, combat do take the chunk of time in one's playthrough but open world exploration, settlement building, building up companion & faction affinity are some rpg elements that take up quite a lot of it as well. I'm just saddened by the fact that even though one can play in 3rd person, the 3p gameplay aspect isn't even considered in the discussion, given that 3p combat just isn't that good.
On a side note, I really hope that the other similar open world rpg game developers really step up the competition & give Beth a run for it's money, thus making all of them create better games.

As the previous speakers said, Fallout 4 need much better RPG system, like FO3. I like FPS part of FO4, but in RPG part, i agree with you all.

Settlement building, gear customization, slo-mo Vats were all implemented by modders in FO3/nv already. Bethesda steals ideas from modders and then spends millions on marketing as if they came up with great innovations.
But I'm agreeing with you. They always drop the ball when it comes to RPG and storytelling. It's as if they deliberately make obstacles for modders so they have to jump through hoops trying to get around.

Well, many developers steal or adopt ideas from the modders. For example, in my time, there was released some animated gun mods for Operation Flashpoint (vanilla contains fixed statue-like guns), same situation with Armed Assault. And, (ba-dum tshhhhhh) ArmA 2 contained animated guns, which has pretty similar work-scheme.

@junkacc: Well, it's a good idea ideas aren't patented. Don't see how it's stealing at all. And no, gear customisation is not one of them: modders had extremely rudimentary methods of implementing customisation, and no-way near the level of complexity.
========
For me, FO has to be both. If I had to choose one, a shooter: it's easier for a modder to introduce RPG aspects than a modder fixing up the shooter mechanics. More than 4 years later, FNV and FO3 still suffer horribly in terms of combat.

fallout will come alive when the creation kit comes... all the issues we have can be addressed, hunger sleep and thirst elements that are sadly missing will be, im sure implemented, weapon degredation and all the hard coreness that we loved from fnv, and a modded fnv, will come and fo4 will be better than ever

I'm just gonna say honeslty, that Fallout 4 is a dumbed down Fallout game, they removed soooo many RPG elements that this game was more or so aimed at children who play Cod or so, no repair system, no karma system, no reputation system, no player freedom, I am starting to think if through all of these 7 years of development Bethesda just say with their thumbs up their asses and couldn't give a shit, Fallout 3 and NV are RPG's well mostly NV while F4 is a casual FPS with stripped down RPG elements.

Dazzer makes a good point. Adding content in such as quests is far easier then changing a whole game mechanic, which can be really subjective with how the modder views the ways things should be.
As I've said before, the atmosphere of the Bethesda games has never felt like they did in Fallout 2. It's difficult to capture that switching from 2d to 3d, however I feel Fallout 2 was the peak of the franchise. If all the developers that created Fallout 2 could get together and make a Fallout game without the bullshit that Beth pulled on Obsidian and allowed the option to make a new engine if they choose to, I think the franchise could possibly be brought back to the glory of Fallout 1 and 2. Cold day in hell of that happening.
Honestly though, I didn't know Fallout Tactics had a sequel lined up and find the concept of this http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Tactics_2 amazing and would have made for a an excellent game and story!

BUT the game being an RPG is a whole game mechanic. It's also rough for a modder to implement a whole new dialogue system, level up/perk/skill system, AND quests where you can be a bad guy

@gav07Gaming You're right. It is and I should have thought my post out more when I said that. I'll admit no modder and don't know how difficult it is making quests and scripting.
I've always thought it would be easier adding in rpg elements through quests. I know there is a mod that changes the speech checks back to binary and then you just need your Charisma at the proper level. I suppose something could be added in for strength for intimidation, but I don't know.

Yea adding in quests would be easier than overhauling shooting mechanics, you are right. But Beth has screwed US here with average FPS mechanics and sub par RPG mechanics
