Subject: Will you trust Bethesda with another Fallout game? Fri Jun 10, 2016 11:43 pm
So this is a topic i wanted to talk about for some time, i am not here to rant on Fallout 4 since i ranted enough, i am here to ask you guys if you would buy another Fallout game if it was being made by Bethesda again? Since me and many people here have been disappointed by it. The game suffered a identify crisis more or less.
And lets say that the next Fallout game is going to be called Fallout: Arizona, just an example, and it is being developed by Bethesda and there is already a reveal trailer, would buy it/pre order it?
I personally wound not, i just don't trust them with another Fallout game since Fallout 4 was a very huge disappointment for me.
Now yes i am playing it right now but that is because the mods fixed part of what Bethesda couldn't or didn't bother doing, now Fallout 4 did add some new features and improved on some things but in my opinion it more or less removed some features that made it a Fallout game. Which is the main reason i would not pre order another Fallout game if it was being made by Bethesda.

nah, I'll just keep waiting and hoping for a new obsidian fallout. If they keep the better gun elements of 4 and the story and rpg elements of new vegas then it sounds great.

While I will more than likely pickup whatever Fallout game they make, my expectations have sunk dramatically. I'm not expecting a Fallout game, but another adventure/exploration title with shooting elements.
Spoiler:
Also that Pip boy in the collector's edition was a peice of crap. What the heck Todd Howard!
Sure, most of Fallout 4's problems can be remedied with mods, but that should never have been a requirement for me, especially after the last 2 entries should have provided plenty of inspiration from the modding community. Far Harbor was a step in the right direction, and if they continue to make those improvements with DLC, I'll probably have a change of heart. Better writing would also be highly appreciated. XD

Honestly Fallout is doomed, even if Bethesda is gracious enough to hand over the license to Obsidian or any other developer to make an entry to the series, they're not going to roll back on the voiced character, leveled RPG lists, empty dungeons, lack of skills, and Skyrim-Leveling up. Fallout is going to get even more casual from this point on, Fallout 4 was huge financial success for Bethesda so it makes no sense for them to make a game harder to access because Fallout 4 was one of the most overhyped games in existence and had tons of viral marketing from gamers who wanted to fit in. Most gamers don't even prefer New Vegas to 3 to begin with. Almost every person that I've talked to that's not familiar with the series has told me that 3 was better than New Vegas (mostly due to retarted reasons like "atmosphere) and thinks that New Vegas sucked, even though New Vegas was the superior Fallout game (and game in general but that's my opinion). Bethesda can make anything and it'll sell like hotcakes, just as long as they starve the audience long enough to build up hype for the next entry. There was what an 8 year gape between Fallout 3 and 4? I bet you tons of people who loved Fallout 4 couldn't even remember when fallout 3 came out, not that there's anything wrong with that. People like us are in the minority, the people who hopped on to the Fallout train couldn't give a hoot about some old isometric games from the 90's and don't think of the series the same way we do. Even Skyrim wasn't that good of a game looking back at it, especially from an RPG perspective, and I admit, it was my first TES game and because it was I thought that it was amazing, without realizing how much simpler it is compared to Oblivion or Morrowind. Think I can predict then next Fallout game that comes out in like 5-7 years having a co-op campaign and even LESS RPG elements and we'll end up with something like GTA and Far Cry mixed together.

I actually enjoyed fallout 4, just not as much as vegas. Unfortunately for me, I'll always buy a fallout title

I've spent a lot of time with fo4, surprisingly, despite it's faults. It's a good game I think, just not a good fallout game. Surely not what I was expecting. It doesn't really have that same spark as new vegas and even 3 imo. It kinnda does, but then doesn't, with the biggest disappointments being in the story, dialogue, and quests. The three biggest driving factors of a Bethesda game. They just dropped the ball with all 3. The settlement building kinda replaces that main motivation to play for me, and then I enjoy everything else on the side. there are a lot of good things about the game, but those 3 main faults can make it get boring quickly. If the next fallout is from Bethesda, I will definitely not be buying day 1 again. Can't give in to hype. The hype is what made the game a success more than anything.

Lol that video never fails to put a smile on my face. I'll probably play that to specifically remind myself not to buy fallout 5 day 1. Unless obsidian of course.

Considering how well Fallout 4 sold they'll probably stick to this formula with the voiced protagonist and watered down RPG elements, which honestly makes me really fucking sad, every game since Morrowind has gotten more and more "casualized" to please a bigger audience and gain more sales. If only Bethesda would let Obsidian handle Fallout while they stick to Elder Scrolls. So yeah I won't be buying into the hype next time if Bethesda does develop the next Fallout game I'm not experiencing all those feels a second time

No, not saying fallout 4 was a bad game but it wasn't a fallout game by any means there ''streamlining'' of rpg elements and the limited conversation system made the game feel like an adventure game with minor rpg elements and much like f3, f4 is a story on guiding rails
Fallout 3 spoils:
no matter what you have to find your father ,no matter what side you choose the purifier goes on
fallout 4 spoils:
No matter what your a loving parent looking for your other halfs murderer and looking for your son
those options never change so i don't have much faith with them on the story department. Gameplay elements like shooting are great but it seems to be devolving more and more from Rpg heavy game to just a action adventure game.
Say they farm it out to Obsidian again ,while it may give us a New Vegas comparable story and gameplay changes its not a set arrangement to loan the ip out to other companies so we may never get another none Bethesda fallout game.
Hope may be alive in the form of just possibility maybe someday a company will make a game with a 3d world with rpg elements, stellar gameplay and a post apocalyptic world with a 1950s ascetic may happen, come on CD Project Red
But what do I know I'm just a Platypus

I dunno, I liked Bethesda's approach to FO4. It was a lot more 'cinematic' than FO3 and FNV, and streamlined a lot of unnecessary (IMO) attributes from either games.
I treat Beth and Obsidian as like Intel's tick-tock cycle: one makes an entirely new game, the other refines it. I think that relationship is best IMO.

I enjoyed it. Yes it was dumbed down. Mostly for the console's I think. But I expected this. Everyone should expect this for the future of gaming. The only way this wont happen is if the game is PC only. Most company's don't want to toss that kinda revenue away. Most game dev's are owned by major corp's. Major corp's want money. SO unless consoles can be made comparable to PC's (never happen) then this is the way it will be. Sad to say but there it is. SO I take this into account and am not truly disappointed. Saddened yes.

Hopes up in Obsidian, I had plenty of fun playing Fallout New Vegas, Not that much of a liking of fallout 4 due to obvious reasons *cough*Preston*cough*settlementbuilding*cough*

I'd trust them ! Sure Fallout 4 is lacking in a lot of RPG elements but... At least, it's an unique entry in the franchise ! They try different things, and that's great ! They are not EA with their yearly games that are exactly the same no matter what like Madden or whatever...
Fallout 4 was a little disapointing, but at least, we can see that Bethesda put a lot of effort and passion to try to give us a unique game and a rather good role-playing experiance !
I would trust Bethesda again, personally ! Because even though Fallout 4 wasn't that much of a RPG per say, it is a fun game to play nonetheless !
Let's hope the next game will correct what Bethesda has done wrong !

Yeah, I agree with you, OP. I'd probably buy it when it would go on sale with all the dlc's (like the GOTY edition) just to have some fun with it and try nice mods, but if Fo4 is any indication, a part of me would feel hollow and not fulfilled by the experience. That's why I'll be always hoping for Obsidian to get another chance.

First and foremost I would never pre-order ANYTHING even if I was assured it will be the next best thing , simply because I don't have that much trust in any game/developer ever.
Second I will not give them any money at all if they don't start going back to there roots instead of this noobyfying what there doing right now .

At this point... Not really. I love Bethesda, but with each release they have been steering further and further from the RP in the RPG. Of course i'd still end up buying all of their games, but I'm really wishing they pass on the franchise to obsidian again. In my opinion, they make the superior RPGs.

If the next Fallout was set in Arizona, I wouldnt pre-order it too, im tired of un-intresting deserts and I dont want New Vegas 2, if they are gonna make another Fallout they better do it in an area with woods and cities, but now to the real question. YES. I will trust Bethesda with another Fallout game. I will not pre-order it as I dont usually pre-order games, only time I did it was with FO4 I think but I dont usually do it. I might be naive to trust Bethesda that they will learn from their mistakes in FO4 but I dont care, I trust them. And if people want Obsidian to do another Fallout game then let em do it, but of course Bethesda wont allow it because they are on bad terms with them I think, and if they are gonnaa make another Fallout game I sure as hope it aint in a desert, but thats my opinion.

Many of fallout 4 characters makes you want to murder them, and majority of the quests are copy and paste. Basically fallout 4 is all about explore and murder everything without consequences. Thanks to the mods the game can become quiet fun. And almost forgot, finally better combat and what they do, forced aim assist for people using controllers , left handed bolts ecc...
