| What is your opinion on the critic for fallout 4 in terms of role-playing? I kinda can understand what the problem for many people is because i wasnt really able to choose to be a bad guy, although i dont think its a bad game, i just think that some more moral options would´ve been good... _________________ Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! | Like many people said, Fallout 4 is a good game, but not good enough to be a Fallout game. I understand that Bethesda is trying to attract casual players but the lack of choice really bothers a lot of people. We are not talking about the choice of factions here, we are talking about what you decide to do and its impact. Generally speaking, there are few options that you can turn into complete dick (Vault 81 quest line for example), but we need more of those options. |

| I haven't played much of it, but I do see that there isn't a whole lot of role play in a sense. Your character is given a backstory and a personality. You had a wife/husband and a kid with them. Then you see your wife/husband murdered and your son taken away. Right there you feel like your character already has a motive and personality. It feels like your character is a family man/woman and wants to reunite with their son. I didn't see much wiggle room for any kind of role playing. Like, in Fallout 3 there was wiggle room. Yeah you grew up in the vault and are looking for your dad, but they gave you some small glimpses of your childhood and you could at least feel like you could go "nice" or "mean" with your choices. When you get out of the vault, you went to Megaton and I feel like your character had the freedom to be whoever they wanted because his life in the vault was kept fairly vague so you chose how he turned out. In FO4, you don't really get the feel like you get to choose. It feels like you're stuck as the pre-determined character. In New Vegas, they gave you little information on the courier's moral compass prior to the game so you had the feeling of complete freedom in terms of how they would act.
FO4 is not very good with its role playing sense. It would seem out of character to go from a happily married man/woman to ruthless homicidal maniac. Since I don't have FO4 yet, I only got to play to the point of getting Dogmeat. |

Absolutely agree with you its hard to give your character his own backstory if he already has one established _________________ Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! | There really isn't much of a role playing aspect in this game, due to the voiced protagonist which limits the amount of dialogue options. Even Fallout 3 had more role playing options. Also I wish Bethesda would stop using the missing family member to drive the main plot, it gets real tiring and frankly I didn't care about Shaun at all. I think they should look at Oblivion again, it had a nice balance between casual and a more hardcore type of RPG. But then again Fallout 4 made almost a billion dollars at launch. |

| It is probably one of the weakest one in the whole franchise. Like many have said on this thread that adding a very specific backstory ruins it and some friends of mine refuses to play it due to the specific backstory(imaginative much?).And decreasing the choice weather to be a dick or not only adds the pain to the game. But people should not fear this because someone for sure will make an alternative start mod which brings back some of the RPG elements. |
