Look at the people who got promoted then look at your own activity.
You've only just joined so you're not even close yet to being one, there are many factors we from the staff consider before we grant somebody the rank of colonial. It's not how long you've been a member but how active you are.

Just have a little patience and most of all be active: Start or join in discussions, post some screenshots and help a fellow member out wherever you can. Who knows that maybe in a month (not a set in stone time) you might have a chance to be promoted.

Show us you genuinely care about the community and spend time on it .

To me it's more encouraging to see people return to the community and regain their rank...although new blood doesn't ever lose it's level of excitement
