Subject: *SPOILERS* Rey's heritage? Wed Dec 30, 2015 5:15 am
The majority of fans believe Rey to be Luke's daughter, but what if she wasn't?
Honestly I also believe that she is, cause otherwise they are gonna have to explain to me how some random girl just beat a Skywalker and in doing so would be pissing on the established canon that Skywalkers were the most powerful force sensitive individuals.
Anyone else have a different theory?

Well, I didn't really have much of a theory, but I can tell you right now the one about Rey being Luke's daughter is completely false. If you'll remember, Rey was left on Dakku at a very younger age by both her parents (as seen in the flashback in which she find's Luke's original lightsaber). Devoting all of his time to the jedi order and not hooking up with another woman means Luke never would have had the chance to have a child without a wife and/or sexual partner to do so. The most likely reason as to her Force sensitivity is that Rey was simply born with the midiclorians necessary to use the Force, as is possible. But, I suppose we'll find out when the next few movies come out

1. Just because your grandpa was good doesn't mean you are. 2. She barely beat someone who was shot, slashed, barely experienced and emotionally unsettled from his father's death. She was running away for most of the fight until the very end when the Force came to assist her. 3. I think so too, but only because it makes things interesting, Skywalker vs Skywalker like Jaina and Jacen.

I do believe she is related to anakin. His lightsaber was drawn to her. I was confused when it went to Rey and not Kylo, it should go to him he is a descendant. I would agree that the rumors and theories are false BUT having that lightsaber drawn to her and wanting to be with her definitely makes it 50/50 in my eyes. I would be let down if the light saber was only drawn to her because she was lightside honestly that would just piss me off to wait a year just to find that out. This whole saga is about the Skywalkers I am sure she is luke's or leia's daughter.

Her being Lukes daughter makes sense. 1: Kylo is a a direct descendant of Anakin, why would it go to Rey? Because Rey is strongly connected with 2 people who have wielded that blade. 2: Lucasfilms has said all the "Episode" movies are a tale of the skywalkers, and sure we have Kylo, but why wouldn't Luke have a child. 3: How did R2D2 wake up? Because the next closest thing to 'Master Luke' was there, his daughter. And like Maz said everyone has the force/light/dark side. Its not just a jedi thing, its getting established as more than that 4: Why did Rey hug Leia? They have NEVER met before, so maybe Rey is getting repressed memories?
I honestly think Luke tried to hide Rey from Kylo Ren, and get away from everything while he exiled himself.
And of course you have to send her to Jakku because just like Anakin, Kylo Ren doesn't like sand

About the waking up thing of R2D2 that happend it my idea because they found where luka was hiding
Abrams explainted the awakening of r2 here http://www.ew.com/article/2015/12/20/jj-abrams-answers-burning-question-about-r2-d2-star-wars-force-awakens
Quote :
[...]When they find R2 beneath that dust cloth, the heroes already have a piece of a holographic map, but they lack the larger section of this uncharted region of space that will allow them to track down Luke. That’s where R2 became a useful storytelling device: he could be the missing framework.
The story group’s thinking went back to the 1977 original movie, when R2-D2 accessed the Empire’s mainframe as the heroes searched for the captured Princess Leia. “We had the idea about R2 plugging into the information base of the Death Star, and that’s how he was able to get the full map and find where the Jedi temples are,” Arndt said.
Abrams says he chose to spell this out indirectly in the movie because he didn’t want the story to get bogged down in “how s–t happened 30 years ago.”
“But the idea was that in that scene where R2 plugged in, he downloaded the archives of the Empire, which was referenced by Kylo Ren,” Abrams said. Thirty-eight years later, in both our own and galactic time, that data becomes useful in The Force Awakens when a new droid approaches the dormant R2.
“BB-8 comes up and says something to him, which is basically, ‘I’ve got this piece of a map, do you happen to have the rest?’” Abrams said. “The idea was, R2 who has been all over the galaxy, is still in his coma, but he hears this. And it triggers something that would ultimately wake him up.”
The director acknowledges that R2’s sudden “awakening” at the end was designed to be an emotional storytelling utility: “While it may seem, you know, completely lucky and an easy way out, at that point in the movie, when you’ve lost a person, desperately, and somebody you hopefully care about is unconscious, you want someone to return.”
So for those let wondering: BB-8’s earlier question rattles around inside R2’s dome for a while. Those old astromechs must just take a while to boot up again.
Then as the movie draws to a close, our old friend finally comes back – and leads us to another one.

I haven't read any of the novels or comics but I haven't seen anybody bring up the possibility of Rey being related to Leia. Perhaps even daughter? That's what I was thinking through the movie. gav07 almost touched on it.
Then again, Luke's lightsaber called to her and connected with her. Somebody knew she was force sensitive and left her on Jakku to protect her from the First Order. In addition, when she was being interrogated by Kylo, he mentions he sees a ocean and an island from her thoughts. Which happened to be where Luke was. So she only saw the map and had never been to this ocean planet (which does anyone know what planet it is?) So that would indicate that she's connected to Luke in some way or was there as a very young child.

For me, Rey cannot be the luke's daughter because the Jedi can't love because for them the attachment leads to suffering and that leads to the dark side .

They can still love and have children though. Yes it can lead down to the dark side such as Anakin. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen though. Luke also wasn't there to see how things went down so wouldn't know any better, hell he was falling for his sister.

But didn't Yoda only give him a crash course in the way of the Jedi, I doubt he covered that lesson in the short time they had.

@Voivre: He went back between Episode V and VI. He was even there just before Yoda passed away.

Yeah, but I don't think he ever mentioned it though, at least I don't recall off hand.

The whole Saber drawn to Rey thing, I ain't quite satisfied with. Its a lightsaber, not a harry potter wand. But nevertheless, the movie is called force awakens. I hope this is explained in the next movie.
And yes, I accept the fact that she barely beat Kylo and he was both physically and emotionally butthurt. But channeling the force? Pulling off a Jedi mindtrick without actual knowledge of what and how the force can be used? She is most definitely a Skywalker.
@Dazzerfong
What did you mean by point 1, I am confused.

@nichoice: People seem to think that just because his grandfather was Darth Vader means that he inherited his power. And the way you said that second part almost infers that only Skywalkers can do that. From what we've seen, this is even better than what Luke or Anakin did.
Problem from what I've all seen in these discussions is, people mistake supposition with facts. Hence why I'm not completely sold on people being absolute resolute that Rey has to be a Skywalker. After all, these things don't tend to mimic the real world closely at all, so I don't see why people have to use our world's logic to fit things in.
My humble 2c.

I myself am leaning towards Rey being Luke's daughter, but, as has been mentioned, we do not have any real proof of that.
A couple of things that I remember from the previous films though, that might just "muddy the water" here, are 1) that Padme (at least I think it was Padme) mentions that twins are rather common in her family, and 2) it is mentioned that children of Jedi tend to be more powerful wielders of the Force than their parents. This was alluded to near the end of "A New Hope", when Vader was targeting Luke's X-Wing and mentions "The Force is strong in this one. Strange..."
Another thing to think about, is that given the nature of the Force, both Anakin and Luke would have left powerful impressions/imprints on the lightsaber they both wielded, making it easy for anyone with enough Force sensitivity to "hear it calling to them", if they were in close enough proximity.

I've heard a random theory that she's a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. I don't believe one bit of it, however it isn't impossible. It was heavily implied in The Clone Wars that Obi Wan had an affair with the Duchess Satine when on a mission with Qui-Gon. She COULD be descended from them, though I find the prospect VERY unlikely as TCW would've likely mentioned a child.

No, you're right, I did assume Kylo inherited Anakin's power. I hope he does have the potential to be a better villain though, he was just soo whinny.
Lucas always said Star Wars was the story of Skywalker, but perhaps they will introduce a new element into the story and explain why Rey could pull those things off.
On a side note, an interesting theory I have read is that Kylo is a double agent sent by Luke to destroy the Sith once and for all. Hence the whole, I will finish what you started and asking Han to help him with his mission and that he is scared.
That will definitely make is a interesting story down the line.

@SpaceLord21: Not to mention since this is ~30 ABY, she'd be pretty old by now given Obi-Wan's death in 0 ABY. And I don't think he'd be knocking boots with Satine anytime after 19 BBY given his relocation to Tatooine after then, so the youngest she has to be with that theory is 49.
