Real Life in Fallout Empty
PostSubject: Real Life in Fallout   Real Life in Fallout EmptyThu Apr 16, 2015 10:30 pm

How does GUN feel about real life items in Fallout? (cigarettes, alcohol, guns, drugs, etc.) I like to pride myself in keeping the game somewhat vanilla other than texture packs, but there are a few real-life type mods I'll toss into the load order. Such as ones that make cigarettes Marlboro or whiskey Jack Daniels. Subtle ones that make the consumables more appetizing.

Something a bit more drastic is my dream mod; MARSOC outfit/kit. As close to the real deal as possible, with the exception of NCR patches instead of U.S. I've yet to come across something like it, but I hope to someday. My modding skills aren't quite up to par.. But that's as far as I'd go.

What about you guys? Is it not your cup of tea, are you in the middle, or do you overhaul your Fallout to be as real as possible?

Well cigarettes, alcohol, guns and drugs are already in Fallout. But if you mean like modern weapons and armor I don't use them in a serious playthrough. But if I'm playing through a mod I'll use whatever.

@gav07NewVegas I could've been a bit more specific. I meant like name brands. Instead of pack of cigarettes, "Pack of Marlboro's". Instead of Service Rifle, "AR-10". So on. With realisitic branding and textures. A good example is one of dragbody's screenshots, where his avatar is wearing "Mechanix" branded gloves.

I use the Camel cigarettes re-tex and pre-war money re-tex. Other than weapons, everything thing else is vanilla brands. Those 2 textures were the only 2 (clutter) textures that bothered me.

I think bringing in too many real world brands would distract me and break the game for me.

I think rebranding stuff is a nice touch. I'd love to come across a box of Captain Crunch in Super Duper Mart, for example. I don't think that 'breaks' lore at all, but then... I'll always place fun before lore or immersion.

@Tesvixen
That seems to be the most common consensus. 'I'd sacrifice lore of the game to have some cool shit in my game.' I agree with that sentiment, to an extent. I do nit-pick a lot though - main reason why my game is mostly vanilla. I'd love to use some of dragbody's public armors, but there are a few rigging issues. (I hate to sound ungrateful or bitchy; not by any means) I'm to incompetent a modder to fix and don't have enough pull around here. And someone needs to make the Captain Crunch happen. Is it a thing? Anyways, always glad to hear your reply.

I have played the vanilla games so much, and i know others have too, that i don't think anyone would mind a "real names" mod. I mean, it would be more like a post apo sim, than fallout. But I think that would be kinda cool to.

I can see that, yeah. The games are getting relatively old. To overhaul the game with said brands would probably be a nice, refreshing change of scenery. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Oh yeah! Add real world brands that you use personally to make the game more realistic. Like, "This ish is happening to me!" I like it!

I might try this Thumbs Up

there is name brands for fallout NV

Cornucopia Grocery Store V1
tons moderns stuff many cigs beer liq ect ect

Cigarettes Replacement
replaces cigs with modern brands

Yams Pinup Parade
adds 100's of posters around the wasteland = -MOVIE POSTERS. SO MANY MOVIE POSTERS. You'll find a ton at the drive-in, but there will be plenty throughout the game. Cleverly placed ones too. There is an eatery at one of the casinos that features a bunch of movie posters.
-Much much more.

Laurens Bathroom Poetry
At the moment all of the graffiti is 20th and 21st century stuff. I'll work on a second version using 23rd century graffiti to add to the bathrooms.

This mod is not nasty enough to rate mature. However, while I know that there are 12yr olds drawing far nastier things on bathroom walls, I feel that I must give my mod a PG-13 rating.

Motorcycle Replacer
These Bikes are now free to use in your mods. Same with the textures just include a link to my bikes.

Real World Drinks Alcohol Addon

HiRes Raider Graffiti

Hectrol Mystic Chessboard Deluxe HighRes Retex

PipBoyToPSVITA
Pipboy Change PSVITA

Pin Up Girls Deck V2
Replaces Tops Casino Deck Only

3 Flavors of American Prewar Money
american money

Band-Marked Pipboys

Building Resource

modern house

I will edit in much more later for you guys but hope you like these:)

i'de love a mod that allows you to spray paint anything graffiti Mod and one that gives us a marker to write in bathroom stalls our own custom stuff haha

Thank you for this extensive list! I'll try out some of these mods, maybe the first 3 only, they seem like cool little additions that can make the game better. Big-Hug

I love having relevant 'real world' objects show up in games, Fallout included. Makes the game hit closer to home and feel closer to the world. Having branded military gear like Crye Precision, and FN Herstal fire arms is a nice touch.

Its understandably lore-breaking, but I feel more 'immersed' in my own way.
