PostSubject: It's Official! FNV Is Mine!   It's Official! FNV Is Mine! EmptyFri Jan 23, 2015 12:29 am

After being on this forum for only a short time, I have realized one thing: I need FNV. As I have only tried F3 on the xbox 360, my options were limited. But now I have it on my laptop! Hurrah!

Only because of VGU have I decided to purchase this game, and because of the amazing mods and effort that every one of the modders has put in. Searching through all the screenshot postings to see what the game has to offer.

If you have any mods that you would like to suggest to a FNV novice such as myself, please feel free!

Mods, or anything in general!

Can't wait to see what the game has to offer, first hand.

I highly recommend modding tutorial by this guy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-3c1a9cLL8&list=PL0E5E8CA384409B11
Very helpful to me when I started modding New Vegas. Other than these, I like quest mods like New Vegas Bounties and Strangers Abroad. Also get Nexus Mod Manager

Well if you want, you can get the Nexus Mod Manager program as it's easy to install and you should get 7 zip! Those will be very useful tools as all the files here I think are zip files TongueTril don't worry 7 zip is safe and free. That's all I have for now and you would wanna give the nexus a check since a lot of the big helpful mods like hand held pipboys and NVSE related stuff are there. Which you should get NVSE just in case for things like flashlights and stuff. The VGU community is always there for ya'

My mod recommendations:

NVEC
Includes a bunch of fixes/enhancements/a few popular quests on nexus(including New Vegas Bounties I and New Vegas Bounties II). There's a full list of what it adds down below.

Yukichigai Unofficial Patch - YUP
As it said, it's an unofficial patch, it was made by modders themselves, not the developer. Fixes a bunch of problems the developers didn't.

Performance Of The Gods
Remove the stupid random stuff you'd hardly notice on the ground and improves your performance.

Project Nevada
- Read its description for more info.
Project Nevada Patches
- Includes patches to support: DLCs, EVE, WME, WMX.
Project Nevada - Extra Options
- Extra stuff.

The Mod Configuration Menu
- Lots of mods use this and need this, including Project Nevada.

NVAC - New Vegas Anti Crash

New Vegas Stutter Remover
Those 2 above makes wonders. Those + LOOT = I played a whole new playthrough without crashes.

4GB Fallout New Vegas Updated
- Use this, Fallout NV usually crash your game with the error "out of memory", this fixed it.

Also remember to download NVSE. Lots of mods need and require this.

And in case you're confused NVSE and 4GB FNV since both has their own launcher, use the 4gb FNV's launcher because it will launch NVSE with it.

Also, don't forget to download LOOT and let it organizes your load orders(trust me, this is a time saver, and newbies saver, too. With the wrong load order, conflicts, crashes, incompabilities will happens!).

This might sounds long and confusing but once you got to modding, you'll download a tons more, if you're really into modding like me TongueTril. And if you do, don't forget to read a mod's description before downloading and installing, check for incompabilities/conflicts/known issues.

Okay. I think I've got it. Only issue I'm having now is where to extract the esp file for Performance of the Gods...

Still have to get the hang of this, that's for sure.

Just use Nexus Mod Manager or Fallout Mod Manager, it'll do the install for you for most of the mods, some mods require you to install manually, just drop the esp and additional folders to Data folder.

Hm, it keeps crashing when i put the Performance of the gods esp file into the data folder. And I'm unsure how to extract it via the FOMM.

Everything else is going well so far!

Well it won't work too if you don't activate it. Other people would recommend FOMM for its utilities, but for beginners, I'd recommend Nexus Mod Manager, it's more user-interface friendly. I learned how to install mods using NMM in 5 minutes. Though I don't exactly know why you'd crash using POTG.

What i would advise a beginner is to install it the old and manual way first. That way you will slowly be able to understand the basic framework of how the mod works and how the game reads your mods. Yes the mod managers will be easy to use and learn but solely relying on them without basic understanding of how it works is not really useful. This is because sometimes you will encounter problems and you will eventually need to troubleshoot some of your mods, maybe due to errors or the mod not working properly and you more often than not have to do this manually. All of this at once will be torture to a beginner who doesn't have a basic mod understanding. So, back to what i suggested, learn to do it manually first (dragging and dropping into data folder one by one) until you are comfortable and familiar with it. Remember to start with small and simple mods first and don't jump to those complex mods like P.Nevada, Warzones, IWS, etc. Preferably small weapon or armor mods. Once you're done doing it like a boss, then move on to using mod managers, either Nexus Mods Manager or Fallout Mod Manager. Here, you'll be able to install complex mods with scripts and fomods easier. And if you are really confident and adept in that and want to go to another step up, you can switch to using mod organizer (Warning : Requires moderately advance knowledge of modding ). This will not only make your time easier when troubleshooting and finding problematic mods but also slowly give you more power and control of your mods. But if you are comfortable with the normal mod managers than it works fine too. Also, be prepared to make a lot of uninstalls of your fallout base game. Make a backup vanilla copy of it somewhere to save some time but you will surely and most definitely be uninstalling and reinstalling your game alot while you mod. All of these are from my experience and i wish that someone would have told me this when i started but Hey, if i can help people with it then why not Banana Dance ? Anyways, its all up to you to follow it or not.

BTW these are some tools that are worth learning too.:

Good luck and have a great time modding Very Happy

Well I don't think it's that hard to need to learn to do the manual way since you just copy and paste it into the Data folder. And the scripts going with the mods will be packed in the esp file or esm, same thing as other mods. Easier + timesaver, doesn't need to be complex with just cut and paste to the Data folder.

Mods like PNevada has tons of options, true, which is why I told him to read the descriptions first and the options to install it is pretty obvious actually.

Though I'm not saying what you suggest is not right, I'm just replying to you because I felt like you are replying to me, if not, my mistake TongueTril.

I like to think I'm a quick learner... But so far it's going well! Wish my comp could handle some of the higher graphics and realism, but it's awesome so far!

Don't forget, there are several programs available to help manage Fallout New Vegas and give you a greater modding experience.

For example, New Vegas Configator ( http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40442/? )

New Vegas GECK ( http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php?title=Main_Page )

FNVEdit ( http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34703/? ) You should also watch Gopher's video on FNVEdit ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVKe51dRm2M )

And if you're really up for it, you could start to familiarize yourself with nifskope. ( http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope ) This isn't really a program for novices and more of something you might use much further down the road. But like I said, you could just download it so you can get a start on learning about the program.

For your first mods, just do what everyone else did when they were new to it. Get some god weapons like the fatman that shoots 150 nukes at once or a minigun that shoots nukes.

Just start small, and work your way up. The big-time mods you see everyone posting screenshots and videos of might be very tempting, but hold them off until you've gotten a decent amount of experience with modding and you're comfortable with using programs like FNVEdit and the GECK in addition to whatever mod manager you use. (if any) More so with FNVEdit because when you have multiple mods or even a specific mod, you may be required to use it to get them to function properly and avoid crashing.

Welcome to the world of modding! Get ready to have your mind rocked!

haha yeah! you got FNV that's really Great man have fun and have many great adventures man also have fun with all the mods you get and just enjoy the game. Mods I would recommend are The realistic weapon damages Mod because I like having battles that have a more realistic approach to them but that's just my opinion TongueTril and also I would recommend to get the CAGE mod (continue after games ending) which lets you play after you finish the main quest ending because for some reason they didn't let you play the game when you finished it why i'm not sure but yeah that's useful if you want to keep playing the game after you finish it and yeah Thanks for reading and PEACE Vault boy Smile
