Hi, I'm Strikehawk and I found this site by chance. I am a long time gamer playing pen and paper RPG's while passing time in the Navy to things on the old C64 computers and third generation consoles. I still play RPGs like Fallout NV, I would love to get FO3 to work on my PC but Win7 doesn't like it
My likes for games are first person shooters/RPG like FONV, flight & railroad simulations and city builders like SimCity4 along with building plastic models. I dislike third person shooters, well any game with that view point, games that have you jump around and solve a silly puzzle ( I ditched the Brazil mod because something like that was in the dream sequence ) as well as sword and sorcery games. I would rather roam the world of FONV with a group of companions and a trusty rifle in my hand than search a dungeon with shady elves and a rusty sword. That's just how I am, maybe it was because of all the D&D type games I played when I was off duty and at sea.
My other hobbies are anime & manga, traveling, aviation and shooting. I like taking my grand children to museums and teaching them lessons they do not teach in schools anymore. I'm married to an understanding wife, have five children and 7 grandchildren. I'm the grandfather that, like I said, teaches them the cool and fun things in life. I spent 20 years in the US Navy both in the fleet and reserve and 26 years in civil service supervising a hospital warehouse. According to my longest suffering childhood friend and buds in the Navy, I'm an overgrown juvenile delinquent.
Now that I'm retired I have lots of time for my games and FONV being my favorite. I swear, one time I will play it completely through with out breaking it with " just one more little mod". Please be patient with me as I'm a really nice guy once you get to know me, I'll try to be as active as I can, I can't mod to save my life but I have an imagination that could be put to use somewhere.
Anyways, thanks for letting me be here.

Welcome to the community.
Have you tried this for FO3? I think it worked for me, it's been a while so I can't recall clearly. But I have windows 7 myself too. So your game always crashes right?
Try this:
Spoiler:
Open the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.
*If it still crashes write this iNumHWThreads=1
And I don't know if it helps, but running in compability mode could do some good. Maybe. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Yes, I tried it a while ago and I just tried it again using the edit for the last line you gave me. Even changed the comparability settings to XP-SP3 and it still crashes. I really wish the makers would put a little time in and patch this up, oh well thanks anyway, it was worth a shot.

Welcome to the Forum!
You remind me a lot of my uncle, he was also in the Navy and likes to show awesome things to his grandkids. Polar opposite when it comes to games though, he prefers the Rusty Sword/Shady Elves thing over the Wastelands of Fallout.
Anyways, welcome to the Community! Also, there are a long list of things to do for Fallout 3 to run on Windows 7. Depends on your graphics card alot too, but there are fixes around. I'd google your graphics card and Fallout 3, see if other people are having the same problem. I got it working, and I'm using Intel HD Graphics, it required a few downloaded fixes and a modder made patch.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'll do my best to contribute as I can. Don't expect much , all I can do is come up with ideas and encourage others, I tried my hand in modding with other games to know that I am so far behind the curve it's not funny. As I said, all I can do is my best here.
