| I'm trying to convert some models from F04 into FNV, but I'm running into an issue where the textures are insanely glossy. Apparently this results from not having proper normal maps, so the game creates its own and sets the specularity or the alpha to 100% white. I don't know if that's a proper explanation, but I don't really understand meshes / textures as well as I would like.
Could anyone help me figure out how to either: 1) Convert F04 normal maps so they work with FNV 2) Fix the glossiness / shininess without creating a normal map
Thanks! _________________ Now I suppose you're going to tell me you're just out looking for a water chip.

| @Cpt.Rex is probably the right person to answer this, but I would take a look at these two video's on the subject (if you haven't already)

| The videos seem helpful, thanks! I think I can use crazybump to generate the normal map for me so I don't have to worry about using the Fallout 4 one or trying to fix how New Vegas does the default ones Here's an example for clarity. It's really bad when in direct sunlight, but perfect otherwise. - Images:
Edit: Just tried the normal map maker, the shininess was REALLY bad no matter what angle. It's definitely something to do with specularity I think. _________________ Now I suppose you're going to tell me you're just out looking for a water chip.

| Maybe check options on NIfscope or removing the _n alpha map ? |

| @erafox I tried mucking about with nifskope but it didn't do anything. Do you know how to edit the _n alpha map? I'll maybe PM Rex or Drag and ask them for advice _________________ Now I suppose you're going to tell me you're just out looking for a water chip.

| I'm doing this stuff with Photoshop but GIMP should be fine too and it's also free. I'm going to assume you can open and edit Fallout 4's normal and specular maps and if not you should get PaintDotNet and a plugin for it as that's what I use to work on them: - Code:

https://www.getpaint.net/ https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/111731-dds-filetype-plus-2019-02-07/ Alright let's get down to it then. A New Vegas texture uses the specular map in the form as the alpha layer for the Normal map. If you don't use one the game assumes your specular map is completely white and that causes the shine. Those tutorials explain it (sort of) but they are far too long for a pretty easy thing. - Thing:

| @tuxek - so it is very similar to what I have been doing in FO4. It may be a short tutorial but it is very helpful! Gimp does work very well on this kind of thing (I use it) and it's free for us limited budget types. Thanks for tips! The other tool I use is also free; Materialize. It may work just as well for FNV as it does for FO4 although I have only used it for FO4. There are some good tutorials in the documentation on it's use. https://www.gamefromscratch.com/post/2018/10/16/Materialize-Free-Texture-Map-Generation-Tool-Released.aspx |
