I started playing Fallout 3 again just a few days ago. Getting it to work on windows 7 was a nightmare but it was worth it. I prefer Fallout 3 to New Vegas even though New Vegas has better mechanics and story, I prefer F3 because of the environments, it's more fun exploring the capital wasteland. I heard what happened to the original VGU site only recently, I'm glad we still have this site for the community. I registered back when the site was called F3 Underground, I stopped coming to the original site when I stopped playing the Fallout games and moved onto other games, now that it's gone I do wish I went back to it more. But it makes me feel better to see the community is still around.

People still play but it seems like that the big time quest authors retired from Fallout which is a shame. I personally like the Fallout series better than the elder scroll series.

Quite honestly I think they went to other games and started modding like I did just to get away from people who steal your work then try to clame it as their own

No,its not this a main reason, that's constitute an exception.I think main reason it's engine limitations

However, there are new FO3 modders that have created some very interesting quest mods recently.

And what are you trying to say that I don't know what a main reason is even thought its probably because of the "Engine limitations" but I find its mostly the Community limitations.

"Community limitations
I don't say that they aren't but in our old site it was the exceptions, remember a lot who couldn't get our mods how ars they behaved.Unlike other sites where you can get mods even without registering and start leaching in sight.Im gonna stick to the engine limitations since it was a reason to make myself move along

I'm actually gonna get back into playing Fallout again. Just wanting to grab a few mods to make the experience a bit better.

Greetings. I actually do still play Fallout 3 and NV from time to time myself, I tend to play whatever new games I have to completion or boredom and then drift back to games like NV and Skyrim. I have not got to play much within the last week though mainly due to being busy and the South Park game coming out so I'v been playing that. But I'm sure I will be back in Fallout within the next couple of weeks looking for even more mods to add.

Where might you be looking?
I'm in the same shoes as the OP - just started FO3 (again, after playing it on PS3 half a decade ago) and have apparently missed out on all the goods with VGU pulling the plug, any thoughts on where to track down some decent additions? AA and texture packs go a long way towards making the game tolerable but...not enough. Anyway, thanks in advance for any sound leads!

Many of the mods are available on Nexus or the Cloud. For those that are not, you will have to be patient.

Hello toolio20, there are several sites that have plenty of mods for FO3 and NV but the main 3 I use are Nexus, ModGames.net and VGU. Though the original VGU has closed doesn't mean that all the mods are gone for good, some people may not even know that VGU has gone yet or my not know about this site to post links to their mods, so it may take a while to got most of them back.
Fortunately though some modders have moved to this site and are setting up things so people can download the mods, I know that dragbody, Corehound, AdayDr1en, Cpt.Rex and Samatron015 have posted links here, only time will tell how many more old mods will be available.

I haven't stopped playing NV since it came out. At this point I'm writing my own fiction within the game universe and illustrating with screenshots.

(Just modding)
Not arguing, just opening the conversation further here...
For me playing led to modding. When I come across a situation I want changed, I learn how to make it happen. When I want a building or interior to be just so that motivates me to learn and mod more. All of my modding, especially what I've released is stuff I put together for for my story and figured others might find it useful. If not, no big deal.
As my story will be leaving the vanilla worldspace in scope I'll soon be creating lots of interior and exterior "playsets" and will share those once they're finished too.
I might not still be playing if I hadn't started modding to enchance the experience on my own terms instead of hoping someone else would make what I was hoping to see.

what have you release so far?
With help from Se7enraven I put together a little animal companion mod called Four Legged Friends and I put together a simple player home at the Crimson Caravan compound using one of the boarded up buildings. Most recently I worked with a friend implementing models and textures she put together for a vest accessory mod. I roll out updates as needed for another mod or two, but wouldn't consider it my work.
