So let me show you what the topic was opened for:
I really liked Rex's screenshots, but I felt that he rushed into it too quickly and if he waited a bit he would've had better ones to post. Basically all of them are of folks standing around (well, most of mine are me standing around too but whatevs) I liked that he used different outfits for each pic. The Duke Nuke'em one had great coloring and focus, but I dislike the character so I wouldnt have voted it. The Alien vs. Predator one looks a bit choppy, mainly due to the models's tail not being rigged right and not discerning a clear posture/intention of the alien (is it the Predator's pet? is it about to get stabbed? did he jump to bite and then changed his mind?). The Star Wars pics are fine, tho, good composition, but I wish it had a bit more action or better scenery.
Havoc had great coloration and awesome outfits most of them from the same pack, but no matter. I expected him to get more votes than he did. matching weapons, matching background, but unfortunately the same theme throughout them all.
ATA also deserved more votes. had a neat little story, action shots, colored outfits, tension, explosions at the end. the angles weren't the best, thought I'm not sure I would've gotten better. it's just weird people didn't vote his funkiness and action more
wurm45 had really good shots. unfortunately the 1st 2 show the same scene. it was hard to choose between the two. he could've taken the chance to introduce another scene. oh well. the girls are beautiful, colors are great, the 3rd shot is very bad-ass. Not sure about the last 2 shots, though. seems a bit artificial. maybe it's just me. also, not a lot of variation in the outfits.
maybenexttime's pics are truly great. his character is bad-ass and the angles and setup is awesome. he went for a little story which was exciting, full of beauty and action. I don't like the middle one that much, but the last one is sexy as hell. no cleavage or panties needed, just sexiness lol
okido started off strong. the first pic you could swear it's photoshopped but it's not the gun's too clean for my tastes, though, for fallout... but they are all really really cool in gun detail, action, 'splosions! everything. I like the 2nd one most, really. the 3rd one would've been my first choice but then the back straps look weird so I moved on. the 4th one shows the beauty of the plasma rifles, but it's less actiony than the others and the face is cut off the 5th one, he removed it but it still got a vote from someone so I guess it was nice as well. I can't remember it tho
islandspa had some nice ones, though not prime quality. his 4th is probably the most appealing, thought the trio in the 2nd pic is cool as well. I don't like the cross standing pic, makes me think console commands (tcl) and cheating and doesn't immerse me in the game. they're all mainly vanilla outfits and sets, but I think he wasn't colonial back then so I understand.
REZ has some close ups of his girls. I know he worked a lot on them and he's happy with the results. they look a little young for my taste, though. it's part of the character generator limits, I suppose. their cheeks are a little puffed and their eyes quite wide, I guess, so maybe that's the optical illusion. they look like raiders with all the clothes, accessories and hair style tho. raider babes
ncrvet has the orange hue that I love. the first sunset pic is gorgeous and the rest of the shots are pretty distinct and special. really like his set, except maybe the creepy little girl overlooking the shooting soldier with the ski-mask on the guitar pic is also nice, good lighting, though I preferred the orange hue more. but with the blue night sky it probably would've come off as green. still, nice to see more fallout 3 shots.
endgameaddiction posted a lot of urban sets. it's not a bad thing, characters weren't required. they look good, the eerie night time darkness and the well detailed and lit areas of the destroyed building are pretty representative of post-apocalyptia and fallout 3 in general. the robots and graffiti are really great.
Mr.MeowMeow did alright. he won fair and square, though I'm not a fan of the 2nd shot, that dust mask is horrible and, the same as in the other 3 pics... the sky is way too fucking bright I really dislike the effect he's got of the sky. I prefer clouds, sun glare or stars and moon any day of the week over the bloomed out dead white he's got. in his first shot, for example, the stars are beautiful and match the shine off the scratches and curves of the armor, though it could've been lit from a better angle. the others, especially the 4th, would've profited from a nice cloudy scenery, as well as the 3rd, the winning picture, from noxious gas or whatever. just dead cold white makes it feel less like a living world under the sky, and more like a simulation chamber or render program. I know his pics are legit, the sky just bothers me. really good colors, though, great detail, high resolution and everything. from the green of the irradiated to the bloody red of the legion dude being slashed to bits, they're great entries all in all.
Cush's pics are more in my taste, though. The sky, for one, is infinitely more interesting, and he's made great use of complementary colors - beige/brown/orange and steel/blue. the second one may be oddly angled, but still nice coloration and outfit/weapon combo. the 5th one is my favorite, though, that gun flare is fantastic and the squad looks mean as hell. I fell he should've gotten at least 8-9 votes for that. I would certainly play on his system with those settings, tho, the color palette just won me over.
TheHulksCousin had mostly interior shots. the teddy bear is cute next to Willow there, but everything else isn't a standout. no particular feel to it or atmosphere, the one that should have had it (with thhe torch in the middle) is way too dark, I feel that fire should've lit the boys better. really dark shadows on the exterior shot too, can't make out the outfits very well. the coloration is quite off, but I'm still grateful he competed and I appreciate his submission all the same. I trust he'll be more experienced for the next contest
dragbody's shots were very detailed. had so much detail he couldnt possibly catch it all from one angle, or in just the 5 screens we've set as limit. he's spent hours and hours setting up the scenes, the NPC's positions, outfits, even facial expression, are very well put together. he's saying he's done it for the fun of it, for the process of setting up the stages and all, but I think he can be proud of the result, if not in these screenshots, then in 3D form. if we could take 3D screenshots, or rather, scene renders, to look around and zoom in on each NPC, we'd be that much more entertained and amazed. the 3rd pic that got no votes, for example, shows the lady character holding on to her passanger, as she's driving, as he's leaning out the window shooting the attacking raiders with a bow and arrow, hitting one riding an ATV straight in the head... that's what I call action. they're not perfect shots, though. I feel his ENB could be brighter, the shadows could be smaller and the color palette could be more alive. The 2nd pic, trial of Joshua, for example, has a lot of the outfit details and general presentation hidden in the way the game's engine renders light from the opposite angle, and there are no fires around to give it more vibrancy. unlike Rex, who posted in the first hour that the contest started, dragbody took his time with these shots, but I'd worked on the colors and contrast more.
on to page 2 Relewyn started off strong with a "Oi, I'll phucken Cut YA!" pose in his Titanfall Sniper Portrait (my name for it, not his). It's a really great armor set (matched with an even more appropriate rifle), the DOF is working in its favor and the blue/brownish-yellow contrast gives it a nice appearance. the second pic is way too dark, can't makeout much of it. the 3rd and 4th are again great compositions, but I find the messed up face texture way too half-ghoulish to look at it for long. really good shots, though. the 5th shows a commando from star wars, which, it being a great armor and all, has a weird posture, as far as the belly bulges out and the basin is set a little unnatural. still, great armor and weapon matches in all of them (except the dark one, don't know what's going on there )
MY pics, well I can tell you a bit about them, and criticize them as well. as dragbody mentioned, it's a missed opportunity for an action shot, if your submission is just of some guys standing around. yet, he also adds, the matchup of the armors with headgear, armor and pose, as well as the company one keeps and the background set of it all, can significantly save a screenie from tedium. I just went ingame and did my thing, mostly, tried to capture a new outfit/situation/environment in each one. I wanted the outfits I use most often to be represented, sort of, so I got a desert warrior, a cowboy gunslinger, a super tactical juggernaut, a hi-tech stealthy ninja and... well... the last one looked cool cause of the lighting hehe so I took a group shot with Riley the dog, Danny and the boys... took a few potshots with the Lucky revolver at a rock till I got a nice position of it too got ma beard on there, ma buffalo hunter Old Shatterhand beard lol . my heavy explosives tactical outfit had to have a large weapon too, and as I considered a minigun, I thought a missile launcher would be more outstanding. the stealth pic should've been in a more hi-tech area, like Old World Blues or something, but I was too lazy to travel that far hehe... and uhm... oh, the 5th shot, well, it was me testing ENB settings, and that room is dark as hell with ENB on, and my boonie-hat with camo net looked interesting, though that tiny cigarette made way too much light on its own haha... big tactical vest there, but a personal fav of mine since I looked all mysterious and bad-ass and shit. I could've used better color contrast (like more blue and gray) in the 3 middle shots, and it's possible I overdid it with the orange palette too. I could've used a different character to focus on and I especially could've used more action, instead of just standing around like a doof but oh well, I won the first voting round so I'm happy with that lol
Brigand231 - more contrast on the sunrise, though it's funny you put it that way and true. 2nd pic - don't really like the outfits. too clean and the colors seem out of place. but really good pose of the two, awesome hats, cool background of the freeside gate, nice composition in general. 3rd pic - great hat and outfit, awesome color palette (though some blue somewhere would've balanced it better), cool tattoos, generally a nice interior shot... butterface though 4th pic - I see a huge backpack with an ass and legs, and a guy gets shot in the distance not a great shot, shots of crouching character, from behind, are better only if you actually see the character, instead of it/her/him being completely covered by a large backpack also way too much brown. 5th pic has its pros and cons - awesome shot of the bullet, though it would've worked better if it was rounder/higher detail. real clear shot of it, though, you can clearly read the markings on it. good idea with the first person view for a direct hit with a desert eagle, although the gun's way too clean for the wastes, for my tastes, and you see very little of it. it was innovative to put a marked man as your foe, and you caught him quite well, he sort of had cover and the higher ground but I imagine you ran around and flanked him somehow, however that weapon is way too large for his body/figure, and there's no way he could've held that thing in one hand IRL, so it's a slight suspension of disbelief. some flare would've been nice too, though, again, I would've worked more on lightning/brightness and color contrast.
