Hello there Big Hello Smiley , I just read a good topic about worst companions in Fallout games and I thought I want to know what is peoples best companions, mod or game and why they think those are best, here is mine

Fallout 3, Best game companion is Butch De'Loria, I just like how at a start he is a bully and just a asshole but if you save his mother he can become your companion and his idea of becoming barber is just funny to me, I just like him as for mod I think Bittercup Companion mod is best, I just like that character

Fallout NV I think Rose of Sharon Cassidy is best vanilla game companion, she just don't give a **** and I cant imagine playing NV without her as for mod well that is hard and there is a lot of superbe companion mods but I think Willow takes first place

Fallout 4 well had good number of bad characters but one that stick to my heart is Piper Wright, now I know what most people think but Piper but with all her flaws is just typical human being and good person in heart and for me interesting companion as for mod companion for Fallout 4, sadly I did not find one that I love that much

so this are my opinions and I am really interested to hear what you guys think

In, NV, that's ED-E. He's a little, cute, round piece of incredibly advanced equipment that beeps happily, is a portable workbench and shoots lasers at my enemies. You can upgrade him. He's super durable and never dies, even in Hardcore. The one companion without any downsides.

In Fallout 4, I like Curie. She's pretty and has a lovely french accent. She's kind and upbeat. And the whole story about a robot that decides to become human (or, close enough anyway) and in the process discovers and has to come to terms with things she didn't even know she could experience is awesome.

Also, Paladin Danse. That's my bro. He's a little uptight, but he hates mutants as much as I do.

and for me that is the reason to not like Paladin Danse, I see him as recist and he is arrogant but I understand also why people like him, shame that true paladin Danse is dead and what we have left with is a more machine then person

It boggles my mind that some people can even make that association.

Racism is a specific belief that other variations of the human race are inherently inferior than your own.

Mutants are not one more example of human biodiversity. They aren't human at all. They're monsters.

Also, what do mean by "the true paladin Danse is dead"?

Yeah, except you're just pulling that out from your ass. Danse is a synth. There's nothing whatsoever to suggest there ever was a human Paladin Danse. Just because the Institute kidnaps people and replaces them with synths doesn't mean every single synth ever created is a copy of an existing human.

But like you astutely pointed out, that isn't the topic, so whatever...

Vanilla: ED-E, no doubt. Veronica runs a very close second.

Modded: Russell. Can't go wrong with a badass former Desert Ranger who has a hatred for Legion without being pro-NCR. A nice choice for an independent Courier.

Willow. It's not even close.

All of you guys saying Dogmeat or ED-E are just wisecracking. No other companion has as much work put into them as Willow: dialog, reaction to player actions, companion specific quests and rewards, etc. Willow takes this BY FAR.

The only companion mods that have the same amount of care and attention to detail that llamaRCA put into Willow are a handful of Skyrim mods such as smartbluecat with his Inigo mod and kristakahashi with his Interesting NPCs mod. Vanessa is really close though. Delilah, Russell, and Niner get honorable mentions and are solid runner's up.

@DrCube What I look for in a companion:

- Aesthetically pleasing
- Not annoying
- Able to carry my equipment
- At least moderately useful in a fight.

Back when I played Skyrim, I never bothered with Inigo, beacuse A) Khajiit are not supposed to have Spanish names and B) I don't understand why anyone would like those ugly beasts following them.

I did try Sofia. Yeah, she was cool compared to most vanilla followers, but she's not in any way shape or form connected to the story or the world. Mostly, I just didn't use followers, except for Serana, because the fact that she is actually involved in the story actually makes me care.

Willow and the other modded companions stand out too much and are not connected to the story. And besides, companions in Fallout are little more than pack mules, so I don't really care. ED-E is adorable, actually has a place in the story and is everything I need from a companion. So does dogmeat.

Take that back! Khajiit are not ugly, they are furry, cutesy cat people. They are one of the most adorable races in the game.

Personally I think Willow fits very well into the game and I'm very strict with my mod list most of the time. As far as I remember, she talks about supporting the NCR a lot. The only problem I have with her is the Hello Kitty necklace and the Papa Roach quest names. They stand out like a sore thumb but besides that Willow is actually one of my favorite Fallout companions besides Dogmeat, Cass and Rex.

Willow is also one of the staples of New Vegas modding. She is one of the more older New Vegas mods and she was pretty groundbreaking at the time. There's a reason she's a top file for New Vegas and it's likely due to just how early she came within New Vegas's modding scene and just how great the quality of her was. She has her problems, but I still find that her mere presence makes New Vegas feel just a little bit more lifelike and less empty. She's more energetic, more upbeat and overall more interesting to me than Cass or Veronica.

I will agree with you on the other modded companions though. Some of them break the tone of the game to a point where I just can't have them around. Vanessa and Niner are two of them. Even though I appreciate the work that went into both of them, I just can't get over just how spontaneous and oddly written they are. Willow has a similar problem in that if you look hard enough, you can tell she's not vanilla even despite all the problems previously mentioned, but that's because she's romanceable and more elaborated than many other New Vegas companions. Niner and Vanessa however are problematic because they're not as elaborate as Willow but also not as refined as a vanilla companion. That's my experience anyway.

Even though I think the Bioshock Infinite Elizabeth companion mod would fit Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 better (there actually is a Fallout 4 version!) thanks to the Atlantic ocean being on the East Coast, she surprisingly isn't too out of place. Sometimes when I play with her installed in my New Vegas game I sometimes forget she's from Bioshock.

The mod creator did a pretty good job splicing her voice lines together in a way that had her reacting to and talking about events in the game and even the DLCs that make it appear as if she really was from the game itself. The vibe this companion gives off is very similar to the protagonist from Fallout 4 as this sort of pre-war survivor frozen in time and exposed to the new world for the first time.

Obviously there was only so much the mod author could do using her voice lines from Bioshock Infinite and Burial at Sea, so her dialogue isn't as expansive as, say, Willow companion mod. But still the fact they managed to accomplish what's in the mod with what was available and have it fit and not be out of palce is incredible.

For vanilla companions i personally really like dogmeat because i can still have lone wanderer active with him.

As for modded companions i use Heather Casdin with one of my personal face presets.

@Heisenberg Khajiit look terrible Laugh Out Loud Specially in Skyrim.

I don't even like real cats that much, but humanoid cats? Makes me think at least one of the creators was secretly or maybe not so secretly a furry. Ugh.

And they're all drug dealers and thieves.

Now, Willow is fine, and if you like to use that mod, that's fine too. To me personally, even in a game with a companion system that lousy, she still feels like she doesn't belong. Not just because I know she doesn't belong but it's not just how the character reacts to the world (which I think is very well done) is how the world reacts to the character. Cass, Boone, Arcade and Veronica don't just make comments about their preferences, they have family and friends, they are involved in quests (not just their relationship quest but they can occasionally participate in normal quests), other NPCs react to them (like how the Nightkin at Jacobstown might mention how the voices in their heads knew Cass' father or the Boomers recognizing Veronica as part of the BoS). Ultimately, the companion system is pretty bad, so It's not something I particularly care about. Like I said, if someone likes Willow, then that's fine, but honestly, ED-E is everything I really need or want in a companion.

@Chinpoko117 Dude, I literally cringe when I read that. You wouldn't put Fallout NPCs in Bioshock. Why not play Fallout without littering it with stuff from other franchises? And if you want to play Bioshock, you can go and play that instead.

That's the point of modding though innit? Especially for a 10 year old game that every one knows the same old story and lore behind it. Not taking Fallout serious is way more fun honestly. Even the classics had Doctor Who and Star Trek in them.


I don't use Star Wars mods for example but i'm not telling those who do use that stuff that it's cringe and doesn't fit the lore and they should just go play Star Wars instead.

Bioshock is honestly one of my favorites games of all time. I love all 3 of them. I wouldn't litter the game with a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with the world and story that Ken and the guys at 2K created. But for the same reason, you shouldn't take Bioshock content and put it on a setting where it makes no sense.

I wouldn't litter the game with a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with the world and story that Ken and the guys at 2K created. But for the same reason, you shouldn't take Bioshock content and put it on a setting where it makes no sense.

Ehhhhh I'll agree to disagree. Opinions and all that.

I'll all say is clearly Bethesda is on board with the modding mentality of franchise crossovers when you can buy official Creation Club content to play as the Doom Guy or Morgan Yu from Prey. Also Link in Skyrim. That's all I have more to say since there is clearly no changing your mind on this, just as there will be no changing my mind on mods either.
