| The courier almost certainly had amnesia or other memory issues (not knowing about how important they were in the history of the pre-destruction divide, and not having heard of the NCR and caesar's legion.) Admittedly, it's a useful trope to help introduce a player to a new rpg world, to have them ask and learn about it right beside their character. But it didn't fully occur to me the depths of the courier's amnesia until lone road. What I'd loved to have seen would have been more amnesia related story. If someone has amnesia, they're almost certainly going to try to learn who they were. To not do so, at all, would be incredibly odd. Lonesome road would have actually been more enjoyable to me if it had been the final piece of a larger puzzle of solving the "who am I" mystery. I'd have actually been motivated to pursue it if it had been part of a long journey of self discovery (as it was, I was only pressing forward because I'd bought the dlc. I very quickly tired of, and tuned out Ulyssess as a babbling pretentious idiot who I had no interest in finding and probably fighting.) |

| I don't think the Courier has amnesia, i think Ulyssess was insane and just blamed the first Courier he saw for the Divide. My theory is that Ulysses delivered the package that destroyed the divide and wnet crazy with guilty, since ulyssess was courier 6 in the mojave express, his crazy mind projected that guilty on the next guy that took the job of Courier 6. _________________ "Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. | Hmm, Ulysses being completely insane allows for the courier to have a more open-ended origin not tied to California or the Mojave, which would then explain why the courier can strange things like "What is the NCR?" This, then, would be the courier's first job in the Mojave, which makes sense for a 1st level character who is (other than surviving the head wound) not yet a bad ass or experienced fighter. |

You can acknowledge that you delivered it so I don't think that can be the case. If Ulysses did deliver it, then you wouldn't be able to claim responsibility. As for the main post, I'm not so sure. It could be that they didn't know who they were delivering to. I don't think it was ever stated they knew it went to the NCR. The device was a secret thing too so it would make sense that the ones who paid for the delivery weren't open about who they were. It's possible they got some sort of memory issues, but it is plausible that they simply didn't know. I don't think it was amnesia though as that tends to be you forget everything rather than a specific period of time. We know that they do remember as if you talk to the Lonesome Drifter as a guy(not sure about chick couriers), you can say that you were in Montana and slept with someone 17 years ago and were worried he might be your kid. That's a specific memory to have and if he can remember that, I don't think he has amnesia. There's also how you can acknowledge you made the delivery that blew up the Divide so there's another reason to not think they have amnesia. Now getting shot in the head likely caused some issues and maybe it affected their memory a bit, but I don't think it made them forget the Divide or other things. It's possible they simply didn't know who they were delivering the package to. |

| I don't think it was intended that way. Asking about NCR and Legion is purely done for lore purposes.
I think it's more so that the Courier isn't particularly attached to anything, or anywhere. The Courier probably simply wasn't aware that they were the one responsible for what happened at the Divide. As a fringe wanderer like the Courier, they probably don't know all the intricate workings of the central NCR, or the lands under Caesar. Or maybe they just want to get other people's opinions to reinforce their own. The Courier clearly remembers going to Montana (and maybe having a kid there if they were Male), they remember having seen Bruce Isaac singing in Reno, the Courier has heard of the Brotherhood of Steel before as all dialogue with Veronica when first meeting her suggests as much, speech options in Honest Hearts show the Courier has been to Utah before as well, plus they potentially know a ton of facts about other things depending on stats, so there's just way too much the Courier knows to suggest amnesia.
I prefer the way Obsidian did it, with dialogue options. It doesn't mean the Courier outright doesn't know what they are, but rather they're asking about them to garner opinions. Honestly, the amnesia thing is a little too cliche for my tastes... _________________ Muwahahahahahahaha!!!What do you mean evil laugh!? This is how I always laugh! - Bow Down:
