| I've been really excited ever since Obsidian announced the Outer Worlds as their next title, and have been pouring over every bit of news and information I can about this game and its story, and one thing in particular strikes me. The entire premise, capitalistic based society (the board), space travel and colonisation, mysterious and faceless corporate tyrants are very reminiscent of Robert House's plans for humanity after his victory at the Hoover Dam. I mean, House already operates New Vegas in the exact same way. He is the board, the authority, the Casinos function as brands subservient to him, and each one offers different products to his clientele. Prostitutes, live music, fine dining. The Strip itself is guarded by a massive army of (possibly) MK.II Securitrons, and a number of laser defence systems protect against airborne threats, both products created by RobCo... In house's ending, he plans to reignite Space exploration using his assets from RepConn, a company he purchased before the war for that very purpose. House's Vegas is built around his corporations (), both pre and post war. He owns everything his society needs to function and to flourish, much in the same way the board controls resources the colonies need to survive.
I'm in no way suggesting this game is related to the Fallout series, but perhaps in some way, this was an indicator of an idea that Obsidian have had for a long time. Perhaps spiritually, it is a successor to the premise of Mr House's ending? It has all the hallmarks of House's ambitions, and I'm sure Obsidian will find someway of throwing an Easter egg or little nod in there somewhere.

| It might have been inspired by Mr. House's idea of exploring and colonizing space however the themes share a resemblance, at least to me, to the Aliens franchise Weyland Yutani or the corporations in Borderlands. _________________ Will there be enough Dakka? |

| I definitely can see it being a spiritual successor but idk I just feel like they want their own brand new IP kinda distancing themselves from fallout and not having to worry about Bethesda's bs stories. Although I'm sure they will have tons of stuff to make fun of them for how bad they shit the bed recently with 4 and 76. _________________ |

| I would go even further as to argue that the outer worlds is a spitural successor to not just mr houses plans but new Vegas in its entirety. What obsidian would have wanted new Vegas to be had there not been massive limitations by the outdated engine time constraints and Bethesda. Its obsidians gift to all of those let down by the overhyped new fallout games especially 76. |

| I really hope it's referenced in some shape or form, until it's made impossible by something said in game, it's my head canon. _________________ |

| Knowing how hard Obsidian likes to ride the coat-tails of New Vegas and 2, it probably is.

| It's a very interesting idea, certainly Repconn talked about the plans to expand to the stars and planets beyond our own, and there was some good effort made too, if the Test Site is anything to go off of. That retro style does seem present in a lot of the marketing for these franchises too. I really get that sort of style from the Spacer's Choice marketing.
I honestly get a much more Borderlands vibe from the setting with all the marketing and brands. I really can't wait to find out how those franchises play a role in not only the universe of the game, but the story as well. I want to know why I might side with on faction or the other and which one really speaks to ME. |
