| So, the iconic 10mm fallout pistol... it's got all this "stuff" below the barrel. It'd look a lot like a pretty standard semi-auto pistol except for the stuff under the barrel. Is it just artistic license or does it actually look like something real/practical? |

| I think it's supposed to be a weight.
Weighted barrels help negate recoil and allow for better target aquistion on follow up shots.
Here's a pistol from KRISS that comes with weights standard.

Now you can tell yourself this to help you sleep at night or just accept that Bethesda was like "Hey, let's make some cool looking future shit, it don't matter if it's practical." _________________ ____________________________________________________________

| In the Originals the 10mm pistol has revolver cylinder at its base andthe barrel is still rather big
so logicaly by the laws of natural order it should help with recoil given you can even lift the damn thing inspired by visualy by a revolver in a comic book that I have forgotten the name most of the guns besides energy weapons are not too far from reality the Fat man for instance is 50/50 of the real world counter part weapon be it a diffrent name was way larger and needed 2 people to be operated and carried but both did shoot mini nukes [far as my memory goes anyways] _________________ |

| @JackLovecraft Different 10mm pistols. The one in FO3/FNV/FO4 was the N99 and the one in FO/FO2 was the Colt 6520. As for the fatman, it's based off of the M-29 Davey Crocket Weapon System. It was capable of firing nuclear warheads at a short distance. (if you've ever played MGS 3: Snake Eater, it's what Volgin uses in the prologue). - Da Nuke:

But that not withstanding, I have always taken that on the N80/N99 to be integrated light and laser system since it's a logical place for such but the engine limitation didn't allow that. As for the Colt 6520, I would go with "silly panelling for decoration" like on the Jackhammer. |

| The Jackhammer looks like an example of a real-life firearm that is trying very hard to look like it's not a real life firearm. It looks rather sci-fi to my eyes, compared to most other shotguns I've heard of. |

| https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VKGhqIl4Gw It looks sort of... fancy, to me. Almost like, if you were making a movie you could use it as a prop for a laser rifle and it would fit right in. |

| Yeah Famas and Steyr are others that look sort of sci-fi in design. |
