| So, this is the Old World Blues Mod for a game called Hearts of Iron 4-Fantastic mod, so I decided to play an NCR game(You can play anybody on the west coast). Here I am going to show you my story of leading the NCR. All in all this took me around 7 hours due to all the screenshotting and writing required - Part 1: The Hero of the Republic.:
Wendell Peterson leads the NCR at the beginning. Many choices lay ahead for the growing republic, which has seen its borders swell. However many problems have arose. The Valle and Paz Bandits of the Baja peninsula are running amok, leading to the deaths of NCR citizens and awful human conditions for the inhabitants of the area. Barons are running the NCR economy, and corruption is running rampant. Now, he must choose how he would like to rule. Should he take after Aradesh, the old wise man and founder of the NCR? Perhaps Tandi would be much better role model, as her pragmatism has propelled the NCR to new heights of power. Or maybe Ranger Seth, the stalwart defender of the NCR. Upon much thinking, Peterson decided that Seth would be a much better leader, and role model for the republic.
- Part 2: The Baja Raiders:
Baja was proving to be a difficult issue and dividing issue within the NCR. Having raiders so close to Dayglow was a problem, and the death of NCR citizens could not be tolerated. Hector Santangel, a native of the Baja peninsula made his case to the NCR in Council Hill. Upon his insistence that a soft approach be used to help the people of Baja, to create a land people would want to join and to use politically peaceful methods to destroy the raiders and integrate them, a fight ensued. Grant C Hayes, a an accomplished politician from Dayglow insisted that the raiders should be treated as a legitimate government, and promoted a cunning plan to buy out the raiders with money, as well as power, to create a new state was much more likely to succeed. Finally, Ranger Chief Hanlon pointed out that an NCR citizen should not fear where he goes, for so great the wrath of Republic, it should surely follow where they lie. Peterson, upon listening to the arguments for 3 days, made a decision, and Hanlon was given the green light. An invasion of the Baja Peninsula was to be commenced, and every raider was to be destroyed. After a short war with only 7 ranger casualties, the Baja raiders were utterly destroyed, and the Baja peninsula would be directly ruled from Shady Sands
- Part 3: The Scouts Return:
Scouts returned after a excursion into raider territory amidst leaked intelligence from the Brotherhood of Steel of powerful technology in the east. They reported the unthinkable. An old world wall, spanning the Colorado, with enough energy to power all of the NCR, if not the entire wasteland. However, the Scorpions and Mojave raiders were thoroughly entrenched along the way. They first had to be dealt with. Grant C Hayes made an impassioned speech in favour of the Rangers leading the charge, under the command of a Ranger General, proclaiming an elite army was what the NCR needed. What ultimately followed was a long debate over the future of the NCR's military and how it should style itself. Hayes pointed out that under the NCR draft, any junkie which could hold a gun was allowed to serve, and those with mental health problems should be excluded. Several Barons came forth with their own plan, to put Big Jim Marshall in control. This would allow the NCR to create a new military industrial complex but Hayes claimed this was so the Barons could profit from mercenary and gun sales. Finally, General Alexander Drummund, despite 10 years of being in retirement, proclaimed that the NCR must style itself upon an old world army, if it was to succeed in the future, emphasising planning and precision. Ultimately, Hayes rallied enough support around his proposal to begin reforming the NCR into an elite fighting force, on par with the Brotherhood of Steel. Planning soon began for a war to expand the NCR to the Colorado. Following a brief war, costing the lives of 753 NCR citizens, the NCR's borders finally reached the Mojave.
- Part 4: The Old World Wall:
Upon finally ousting the Mojave raiders from their position along the road to Hoover Dam, the NCR have finally arrived at their location. Yet as they did, they were greeted with some new faces. A large robot, with a television for a face demanded an accord be reached between them and the NCR. He claimed to be a representative of a "Mr House", a man who had taken ownership of the state of New Vegas, and had spent the last several years turning it form a ruin, to a paradise of vice and sin. The Brotherhood, had set up shop in the valleys close to the NCR roads, and were becoming unruly. The republic had recently avoided a war with the Brotherhood back west, and needed to treat the situation delicately. Finally, there were unsettling reports of a new Empire across the Colorado, under the command of a man named Caesar. Any attempts to contact this group has ended badly, and reports indicate a build up of forces along the Colorado, which can only mean an invasion is coming. To alleviate thsi threat, Peterson accepted House's terms of a non aggression pact, and military access, to prepare for the coming threat. As well as this, a drugged gang known as the Fiends were completely annihilated in a vicious crackdown by the NCR. Few were able to avoid the NCR's new elite troops. As that war concluded, the Legion launched their attack. In an all powerful assault, the NCR were pushed from Hoover Dam, but managed to hold the line at Boulder City.
- Part 5: Victory Year:
With the Legion Defeat at Hoover Dam, and the scale of their armies exposed, the NCR required a new military strategy to defeat this foe. Where the NCR now lacked manpower, the Legion had an abundance, and a long war across the Mojave was out of the question. Lee Oliver has promoted a series of fortifications, and a hold the line scenario, however Peterson has rejected such notions. A campaign needed to be undertaken, in his mind, to destroy the slave bearing state under Caesar, but how best to do this? Hayes' Ranger General, Mossman, and newly promoted supreme commander of NCR forces for his defence at Hoover Dam has promoted annexing the rapids tribe in the South East. This will provide several new fronts which could be used to push deep into Caesars territory, while it wastes men trying to take Hoover Dam. However another issue has arisen, with the Mojave brotherhood, They have impeded NCR attempts to patrol the area, and intelligence has suggested that they are using HELIOS One, a solar power plant to develop a new super weapon. A plan has been made at NCR high command to stage an incident on the brotherhoods borders, in order to force them into a conflict. With the fall of the Mojave Brotherhood, a new NCR Mojave has arisen.
- Part 6: The Barons War:
Disaster! In the midst of a series of local disputes, an all out war has broken out in the northern NCR. Peterson became under immediate pressure to resign and the NCR was divided on how to deal with the issue. With so much squabbling, and the army all deployed on the frontlines, the NCR was on the brink of civil war, with starvation becoming a serious issue. Peterson convened an emergency council which would last for 15 days until a plan was laid out. Ultimately what was decided, was that a delegation was to be sent to the Western Brotherhood, under the leadership of politician Sean "Allgood" Murphy and ask them for help in restoring order to the region. After a further 30 days of negotation, the Brotherhood accepted, in exchange for technology and military access to NCR territories. By mid July 2278, the Barons War had ended, due to the Brotherhoods help, which aided in burying the hatchet between the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel. Despite this Crisis, the NCR has accomplished a major feat. It curbed the power of the Barons, and for the first time, a non pre-war fighter plane was used in a combat operation.
- Part 7: The Election:
Peterson has resigned amidst the chaos in the Barons War. A brutal election followed which almost saw the NCR split into civil war as a result of a three way battle between Sean "Allgood" Murphy, Aaron Kimball and Grant C Hayes. However the people decided, in a free and democratic election, that Kimball would lead the way. The NCR has once again stood, as a bastion of freedom in the wastes, and Kimball has wasted no time in keeping his campaign promises. Two extra divisions of power armoured soldiers have been deployed to the front lines. However, trouble has once again stirred with the brotherhood. A patrol was discovered in Northern California near an old bunker, and when approached by NCR soldiers, the brotherhood opened fire, killing two soldiers. Relations came to breaking point, however due to intense council to give the Brotherhood the benefit of the doubt, Kimball refrained from storming the bunker, to sending a messenger to the Brotherhood. Upon their return, the messenger replied that the scouts had been reported AWOL some time ago, and that it was a West-Tek facility. While this has caused much debate in the Council, the overall feeling is that if they were in fact AWOL, they cannot be held to account for their betrayal. New Vegas also carried news that due to Caesars legion's massive expansion, and attacks on the Mormon Alliance with the White Legs as well as the evening of forces, that it wished to become a state. The Lucky 38 would remain Mr House's personal venue, and he would retain ownership of his Casino's. Caesars war with the Mormon Alliance of the Sorrows, Tar Walkers and New Canaan has bogged the legion down, so far leading to 15000 deaths for the legion and its allies, as well as 27000 for the Mormons. With this news, the NCR has begun to mobilise for its Endwar.
- Part 8: The Great War:
NCR plans are in disarray. Caesars legion has launched a series of surprise assaults all along the Colorado. After bitter fighting, the NCR manage to secure a beachhead across a small crossing. After a long and prolonged battle, eventually Caesar makes the mistake of attempting to open another front through cowboy territory, forcing him to move troops. While Cowboy territory is quick to capitulate, the Legion is unable to stop several NCR naval invasions across Arizona. Finally, at the cost of 17000 men, the NCR has crossed the Colorado, and begun a major offensive. The state of New Vegas and various other independent states under threat from the legion join the fight, and soon they are pushed back deep past Flagstaff, the Legion Capitol. After a series of offensives from New Vegas and the Northern NCR rangers, and a massive push into legion territory, the Legion eventually capitulates after the fiercest war in Wasteland history. A series of new governments are set up to replace the Legion, and the slaves are forcefully emancipated. The Phoenix Republic, the Free City of Flagstaff, Hualapai, The Western Apachi, the Red Sun Republic and the Summers Federation are given swathes of land, and are placed under the protection of the NCR. This ends my Old World Blues NCR story. Was a fun game, but took like 7 hours due to all the screen capping XD

| @"ahyuser001" Definitely do! It's one of the better ones, but you should also try Kaiserreich (Alternate history of what if Germany won WW1) and Millenium Dawn (Modern Day mod). I would say Hearts of Iron is well worth the investment, but there's a steep learning curve. |
