| Hi, my name is leifyjai and I have been playing Fallout for a very long time, since the first ones came out Then I took a long break from gaming, until Fallout 3 came out, and since then I have been playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas on the PS3 and Xbox 360, respectively. Until recently, when I built a gaming machine from an old Dell XPS I found at Salvation Army, which had a good processor and 32Gb capable motherboard, to which I added a pair of SSDs and a 1070 GTX. The first game I bought for it was Fallout 4. I love all of the Fallout games! I also really liked the Elder Scrolls games, and ended up re-purchasing Skyrim (SE) for my PC, which I had played through on the Xbox 360 already, and then installing a *LOT* of mods for it, and playing around with the Creation Kit to get some of the mods to play together nicely. I had as much fun doing that as I did playing the game! Now I really want to go back and re-visit Fallout New Vegas (my all time favorite), and play around with installing mods to bring that up to date and add new content and stuff. So I'm thinking about re-purchasing that for the PC now. I used to do a lot of programming, and would like to try my hand at mod development, but I am a full-time, sole caregiver for a loved one with Altzheimer's, so I have to put all my gaming stuff second to that, of course. Anyway, I heard this is a good site to meet other like minded people who are into gaming and modding, so here I am! I hope I get to know some of you, and that I can be a productive contributor here over time! Leify j. |

| Howdy there and welcome to GUN. As I usually say,you came to the right place for Fallout and mods. TES does have some presence here, but nowhere near as big as Fallout's. Also, there are lots of veteran mod developers here who could give you jump-start towards making your own mod. Also,I'm sorry about your loved one. I know how it feels. My grandmother suffered from alzheimers before she passed away a few years ago,so I know how difficult it can be to watch a loved one slip away. Anyways,to lighten the mood, feel free to chat and mingle with the locals whenever you like and ask questions if you ever need help with something. Enjoy your stay. _________________ |

| Thanks for the welcome you guys. Hey Zodiac213, so you are obviously into S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I just recently found out about it and installed a standalone mod called "Call of Misery". Can you tell me if that is a good one to start out with, for someone who has never played a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, and likes a strong main quest line with lots of side quests? Also, if not, what would be a better S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mod to try? And would something like Metro Exodus be better for someone who prefers strong questing system to completely wide open sandbox? Anyway, if you get a chance and don't mind sharing. Thanks either way! -leifyjai |

| @leifyjai Woah there. Call of Misery is a hardcore mod,and I mean fucking hardcore. Definitely not a mod for a rookie in the Zone. Ideally, for someone just starting out in the Zone,I would recommend them to start off with the first game,Shadow of Chernobyl. The mod Call of Chernobyl is a standalone mod, yes, but it really is more of sandbox than a story based game. So,if you're looking for the story, you're probably better off starting with one of the official releases,SOC preferably. As far as Metro Exodus is concerned,I can't say much because that game hasn't been released yet and I don't,know what the story for that is like yet,but STALKER was never really a game about the story. It has always been about the ambience and general tone. - My STALKER story:
After a long day of stalking and tracking artifacts,it's starting to get dark. You start moving towards some nearby buildings to spend the night in when you start hearing noises from the darkness around you. What is it? Dogs? Chimeras? Bloodsuckers? Whatever it is,you say,"fuck that shit. I'm outta this bitch." You quicken your pace towards the buildings, the noises becoming ever closer and ever louder with every step you take. It gets to the point that it sounds as if that whatever is emitting those horrible noises is right behind you and is going to pounce on you any second now. However, when you reach the side of the building.you begin to hear different noises. Is that a guitar? You run to the entrance and are greeted with a sight that brings comfort to you,a fellow STALKER pointing his rusty AK at you telling you to calm down and to holster your weapon. You put away your equipment and take a moment to breath, relieved that you can no longer hear the dreadful noises that were chasing you, having been replaced by the sounds of a roaring campfire, amateur guitar playing and other STALKERS talking and laughing. You head on inside and squat down next to the fire. You pull out some sausage, bread and vodka and start munching down, not really listening to the others, instead thinking more about what you're going to do with the rubles you get for the artifacts you found.
And that's just one of my STALKER stories to give you a taste of what the game is like. So if that little story sounds like something you would enjoy, than I would say start with Shadow of Chernobyl and to do your first playthrough unmodded to really get the full STALKER experience. However,I would say that you can get away with either using Autumn Aurora 2 or the Complete mod for SOC. The Complete mod is significantly more beginner friendly, almost to the point of being a little too easy for STALKER. On the flip-side,Autumn Aurora 2,being my favorite mod for SOC,stays pretty close to the original style and feel of vanilla STALKER while making a few upgrades. It even comes with a pre-packaged enb to make you game look even nicer. So,once again, preferrably I would have you play vanilla SOC first, but you can install one of those two mods if you wish. You can skip Clear Sky if you want because it is rather lackluster, and go straight to Call of Pripyat. Unfortunately,I have yet to find a mod like AA2 for COP,so I have to install a bunch of smaller jobs to get a similar result, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Oh,and also, always play on the hardest difficulty. If you play on anything less, you may as well stick your starting weapons uo your arse and run towards some Cheeki Breeki bandits yelling,"FUCK MY CHEEKI BREEKI ASS UPSIDE DOWN!" Everyone becomes bullet sponges except for you. Hell the first time I started playing,I actually thought that my game was broken because I was shooting my pistol at a bandit in the head about 20 feet away from me and he shows no signs of being shot. Than he proceeds to mow me down with his AK in a single burst. Anyways, that's my advice and I'm gonna stop for now because I typed this damn essay on my phone and I can say that it wad not fun time having to put up with auto-correct and all that shit. But feel free to ask more questions if you want. Either pm me or start a thread and either I or some other STALKER on here can answer your questions. Edit: Bitched about auto-correct at the end and there were still typos! I'm just gonna leave them as is because I thought it was ironically hilarious. _________________ |

| Thanks irishmarksman92, I am already getting a lot out of this!
Speaking of which, hey Zodiac123, very nice post man - much appreciation! Just what I needed to tip me past the breaking point and get me to give S.T.A.L.K.E.R. a spin. I hadn't gotten much farther than installing the COM mod, but your post inspired me to uninstall that and go back to the roots. So I bought Call of Chernobyl today, got it installed and have started playing it! I haven't gotten very far yet, but had to spend some time setting up the controls, as I have a bit of a disability and had to set up a keyboard to gamepad mapping. But it was worth it! Anyway, I really appreciate the time you took, especially on your phone cuz that auto-correct just drives me IN-SANE. Thanks again.
p.s. You are supposed to start out with no weapon but some shotgun shells to throw, right? Or did I miss something? I did end up picking up a pistol off a dead dude fairly quickly, just seemed strange to start off with *NO* weapon!?

| @leifyjai No problem man and I wish you luck in the Zone. As for the no weapon thing, that's odd. As far as I remember, you should always start with a beginner weapon. It's always either a double barrel shotgun or a pistol I believe. I'm guessing that you meant you bought Shadow of Chernobyl,so have you tried talking to Wolf? He should be in the Rookie Village just outside of the bunker you start off in. He's usually standing by a campfire. _________________ |

| Yes, I did get Shadow of Chernobyl, not "Call". I went back to figure out what happened and you're right, Wolf gives you the pistol, which I did finally go talk to him, got the gun and did the Nimble quest. |

| Thanks for the welcome, Eridonn, and I won't be a prick. I can relate to what you said about FNV and breaking it with too many mods. I totally did that with Skyrim a bunch of times, but I loved the challenge of figuring out what was making it crash, and managed to get it stable with I don't remember, but it seems like it was around 300 mods! Just re-purchased FNV for the PC and have only installed and booted up vanilla, then backed it all up. Haven't had a chance to start modding it, but can't wait (well, I will wait until after I get back from my yearly 4-day mini-vacation next week). Then it's time to see how badly I can break it before finally getting it modded just right! Anyway, thanks again for the welcome! |
