| so the story doing the rounds at the minute is that the Obi-wan movie and other anthology projects is being thrown in the bin because Solo couldn't even make its money back.
For me this has always been the number one concern since Disney bought Lucasfilm. Its movie making by bean counters and balance sheets . They didn't buy Star Wars because they wanted to tell good stories, it was always about profit and they get one movie that was not profitable and they lose their shit. What happens now if Episode 9 is sub-par and doesn't make ALL the $$$$. Will they just dump the whole fucking thing.
I know this is the bigger problem with Hollywood as a whole these days but it just pisses me off

| @celtic_spike hmmm, bad new...films are now primarily a question of money because they are so expensive now and I dare not imagine the bank guarantees, "formalities" administrative and legal necessary for the realization of a super-production. At the moment, things have developed a lot, new technologies making possible what was not possible before and, unlike the "old" like me, who knew the TV in black and white and for whom the advertising to the television was ... an entertainment because there was so few programs ... today's young people do not have this culture and its jaded by all these cinematic releases as well strong as each other. It happens a moment or too much corresponds to no longer appreciate the things at their fair value and that, they should have seen it coming from a distance ... for a long time |

| @"darkstyler" i get all that, and it really does make the medium worse as a whole. what i don't get is with the billions Disney have made off of Star wars and Marvel already, how does 1 under-performed movie warrant such a reaction. it just feels like we are in a situation now where they are all-in on episode 9 and if does not set the box office on fire, then that's it for Star Wars movies. I know some fans would be more than happy to let it die, but i see so much potential in that universe for great things. _________________ |

| I honestly don't understand their logic, people told them to cancel Solo ever since it was announced, and then they're surprised when it flops. Meanwhile, the Obi Wan movie has literally been the most requested star wars film of the last decade, and yet they dedicate no resources to it. Honestly, it's not a problem of suits handling the franchise, it's just a problem of idiots without any knowledge of buyer demand. |

| Who really cares about Obi One? He already got a lot of screen time so its enough. Now its time for something new: Boba Fett spin off - thats what i really want to see:) |

| Honestly, after seeing The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, I stopped caring about Star Wars. I absolutely enjoyed both the Original and Prequel trilogy and they hold a very special place in my heart. But after witnessing how Disney treats Star Wars as another stupid sci-fi franchise and how they talk to their fans, why should I care anymore? This Solo movie, while pointless, boring and just poorly thought out, I'll have to admit it did nothing insulting. The Last Jedi has been something so insulting, something far more than The Force Awakens was, I lost hope. Money is all that matters to Disney. George Lucas created a story that he wanted to tell and had meaningful messages of life and our society. Rian, this hack, who doesn't understand Star Wars made pretty poor comments a few days ago that tried to make out Lucas was full of shit. Lucas didn't want to kill off Luke, Han and Leia because Star Wars is fiction, he wants these characters to have happy endings and make the audience feel absolutely good about life. Rian then tried to say that a lot of other characters died or suffered along the way when the story isn't about them, it's about Luke, Han and Leia with Anakin, Obi Wan, Padme and Yoda driving forces of the saga. So you have idiots who didn't understand (or thought there was nothing to understand about Star Wars) and they continue to make these boring stupid movies. Then this moron Johnson gets to make his own trilogy after that disaster, what the f*** is going on? It's a shame Obi Wan might not get a movie because there was a chance it could have been good since Obi Wan is a great character but looking at these new Star Wars movies, it could have been just as bad as Solo. |

| Welp, this is disappointing. I was honestly kind of looking forward to an Obi-Wan movie because I always thought that Ewan Mcgregor as Obi-Wan was the best part of the prequels. After seeing the reviews and backlash that Solo and the Last Jedi got and how shittily the Star Wars license for games is being handled by EA,there really doesn't seem to be a New Hope for the Star Wars franchise at the moment. _________________ |

I just had this similar discussion yesterday with a co-worker. Lucas' rendition told a story and it even inspired us to make our own ideas in the complex galaxy that is Star Wars. His movies FOR SURE give off a different vibe as opposed to the Disney ones. Once Luke died, I threw the towel; that's not the Skywalker I knew, to be self-deprecating and arrogant? I don't remember him acting like this in the others. TLJ Skywalker was not the real Luke Skywalker to me. I will always love Star Wars because its still Star Wars but Disney's vision of it is not something I am too happy with. However, as bad as they may be; it doesn't inspire me to harass the actors/actresses on their role in the movies like some people do. Yes, I will probably continue to watch the movies because it has the Star Wars name but in my mind; Skywalker never died and neither did Leia or Han, Boba survived the Sarlaac Pit as he did in the books and I'll go from there It does suck that the Obi-Wan movie did get cancelled as I was curious on how that would turn out. _________________ - My Achievements:

| My understanding is that the standalone movies are being put on hold for now, but who knows, that could be corporate speak for cancelled. Really though what did Disney expect, rushing the release to the summer. Hadn't even been half a year since tlj was in theaters. They assume just because somethings got Star Wars in the name means it'll be a financial success. _________________ |

| @"irishmarksman92" I go back and forth on the whole Luke thing. I can respect that they wanted to start something new with new characters and move away from the Skywalker Saga , but they could have also achieved that without fucking around with such an iconic character.
@"farlas816" agreed.it was just corporate greed and arrogance, and ultimately we will suffer as now we prob wont get the Obi wan and other solo movies. to me it seems like everything will be on hold till episode 9 and its box office return will determine the future for SW movies. _________________ |

| You know I gotta commend Disney, it's an impressive feat to take something that practically prints money like the Star Wars franchise and make something unsuccessful with it. Even the lemmings who eat up anything with the Star Wars logo on it are starting to get tired of this crap. As for the Obi-Wan movie itself it's hard to be too disappointed since the "de-canonized" EU has more than enough Obi-Wan stories to keep my interest as they did for years before Disney started shitting everything up |

| I'm glad, honestly. Removes the chance of ruining another famed character. Hopefully this gets them a step closer to leaving the original trilogy behind and making something completely new. ( It's Ironic how they go on about 'Let the past die, Kill it if you have to.' Then rely on the old cast to sell tickets and make an origin story for those characters. Tsk Tsk. ) _________________ And I find, on my way to death and happiness, that my heroes, my heroes dress in black.

| I'm not really surprised at all. The general reaction to Star Wars has been mixed for several years. The worst that could happen is more franchise fatigue. And even more studio meddling in the process. I am glad that it won't be made. Not every character in the SW universe needs his own movie. _________________ swiggitty swooty I'm coming for that booty -George Washington |

| Yeah I think this is one that I'm actually fine with it not being touched. Star Wars is in a messy state right now, and won't be recovering anytime soon. I'd love it too, but unless drastic changes are made, it's in a iffy spot.
I've always thought the main character of the prequels should have been Obi-Wan anyway, would have made a much more cohesive Pov and story i think. _________________ |

| Gotta be honest.... if Episode 9 doesn't do so good then that's probably for the best, ever since Disney first brought Star Wars things just haven't been the same, don't get me wrong it wasn't all bad, i mean we are getting Clone Wars back soon and there has been some good stuff come out but I just don't have much faith in the sequels. _________________ When Life Gives You Lemons Keep Em Cause hey free lemons

quite frankly i am done with any property that Disney has its hand in. the whole Guardians and James Gunn fiasco proves where their priorities lie. they tarnished a mans career over nothing, just because they didn't want any bad publicity while finalizing the deal with Fox. _________________ |
