so it sounds like there has been some drama around this mod recently and the mod authors are pushing to release it asap . https://www.facebook.com/FalloutProjectBrazil/posts/2213926871984711 JuiceHead just did a video on the drama too.
essentially Bethesda are releasing an expansion to the fallout board game called New California and the mod authors don't want to risk their mod getting hit with a cease and desist. Interesting situation here. What does everyone think?

They just have to rename the project honestly and rebrand the whole thing. Either way, I know Bethesda has intervened with Skyrim Together project ( a shame ) but that was due a third party with steam. I don't think they'll touch this mod

Played it many years ago and tried to stay up to date with it but other games came out. I honestly thought it had been canceled when I started hearing about New California. Surprised it was just a name change. May have to reinstall New Vegas again here soon.

I think I want bethesda nowhere near new california, let them stick to the east coast
I know it's just a board game, but still. Bet you there won't be any love for the midwest, either

I don't understand what's going on. Why would Bethesda attack a mod? They released the construction kit for us to make mods, and then fly into a rage when it's used? That seems illegal, to release software and then get mad when it's used. The nexus is full of mods that they are leaving alone. That seems like precedent and proof that they're just randomly being evil. What's actually goin on? I can't quite tell from the facebook link.

I would hope Bethesda would not hurt a modder who have spent 7 years of their life on a project devoted to a fans love of the Fallout franchise. I would be both shocked and angered if they did put out a cease and desist order on Fallout: New California. It actually would be in Bethesda's favor not to. They can use the excitement and wide spread buzz about the mod to get free exposure and name recognition for their little board game. Free advertising! Don't be Fools Bethesda!!!

I wonder if Bethesda is actually afraid of others outdoing them on their own license, like Obsidian probably would with another chance.

New California release date is just one month before Fallout 76 so maybe Bethesda is afraid that people would rather focus on New California then F76 because they know it will be shit and nobody will want to buy it

So Bethesda have announced an expansion to the Fallout board game called New California, so the concern from the modders is that Bethesda could try and stop the mod releasing under the New California name, so they are trying to get the mod released much earlier.
Juicehead did a video explaining it

As a PR manager, I can say that it would be pure idiocy to call for cease and desist on New California. It is understood that modders are what keep the money flowing from F3 and FNV so long after their release. Big name modders vocally don't support pirated games and often work to make the mods dependent on licenced games.
Mods like New California and TTW keep the older fallout games in demand on GOG and Steam, and even bring in new players, something Bethesda benefits from during new releases.

It doesn't make any sense. Countless mods are using words owned by Bethesda, simply by making lore-friendly Fallout mods. This is... weird. Especially since it's coming after 7 years. I can only see this as some kind of crazed vindictiveness. I just can't imagine what else it could be. Are they trying to terrorize free modders in general by making an example of the biggest of them? I've got nothing but madness and conspiracy theories... as I see no sense in this.

Bethesda hasn't done, nor are they doing anything to my knowledge? Did something happen while I wasn't looking?

nope Bethesda have not done or said anything. Its just the fact that they are using the same name has panicked the mod authors. Remember Bethesda is owned by a bigger corporation i.e. Zenimax , so if they trademark the name Fallout:New California for the board game, then the mod would be infringing on that trademark.
they figure if they can get a working version of the mod out now under the New California name, then its less likely some corporate twat at Bethesda or Zenimax will make an issue out of this.

@celtic_spike Hrmm - For some reason it won't let me upvote your response, simply reloads the page with no change when I click the button. But anyway! Ah, that makes a lot more sense, I honestly don't know why NC doesn't simple change their name again.

oh, it WILL be shit, but bethesda's fanbase tend to be the flies, if you catch my drift, and it will sell like hotcakes. I just hope this isn't a "Proper" game, just some nonsense you have to hear about in the background, like fallout shelter, and fallout 5/new orleans is coming out soon. If not, at least Fallout 4: New Vegas hopefully is

i mean there are 2 points there i think. Firstly why should they have to. They had it first and its highly improbable Bethesda were not aware of the mod when they named the boardgame.
but the bigger issue is it would delay the mods release, probably into 2019 as if there was a C&D sent by bethesda/Zenimax the authors would probably need to change everything in the game that referred to New California. that would be the worry anyway.

Just visited the FB page of the FNV: New California project and apparently we have nothing to worry about.
